The three Iodrome quest is literal hell. The Ioprey never stop spawning. Half a dozen of those fuckers lunging at you at all times changes a man.

what makes old MH -preys literal hell is that their lunge attacks reaches really far and has considerable tracking on them (they can even bend a bit horizontally midair)
the barrel bomb being stolen out of your pockets while you were having an actively Bad Time with rathalos was unnecessarily mean of the game -- ESPECIALLY with how annoying the resource gathering looks 😂

1st - 2nd gen games aren't so bad emulated.. especially with speed cheats/built in accelerators.
have a stack of Felvines in your inventory, you can buy them for cheap from the item vendor I think, Melynxes will prioritize stealing Felvines over your other items instead

I'm glad they started to give us basic gear in later entries because it's extremely funny to play these types of games hunting these terrifying scissor finger raptors completely naked. Like they should absolutely be devouring our corpses they basically send you out as a free meal for them lmfao 💀

1:01i had always heard about how "hard" MH1 was, but i never really stopped to comprehend how truly "difficult" MH1 would be to play until i heard this horrifying sentence just now. i want to meet the people who suffered through Gen 1 and personally shake them by the hand. without them, there wouldn't be a franchise.

You haven't lived till you've attempted organically grinding to G Rank with friends on the unofficial servers that went up for PCSX2 last year. 200 hours nearly of grinding, mostly Plesioth and Gravios since those quests dish out the most hunter rank points in the quickest amount of time. We still got walled by the nasty DPS check that is high rank Lao Shan Lung because no sorry SOB wanted to be our fourth since monster health doesn't scale in the gathering hall quests based on players.
Would you happen to know a guide for connecting to Monster Hunter 1? I managed to connect to the servers for the second game but I couldn't find a guide on how to connect to the 1st one.

I played MH1 2-3 years ago and I actually really liked it. It was frustrating as all hell but also super satisfying and addicting. The game is so punishing that every incremental upgrade to your gear feels like a godmode switch. I put around 60 hours into the village alone. It was painful but I enjoyed it so long as I had CZcams playing in the background.
If you do ever want to play MH1 again you should play the JP version as it is the only version with fan servers (don't worry it has a really good English patch)

Im actually so glad that I got to play MHFU>MHP3rd>MHG>MHGU>World>Rise in order. My reflexes and habit stayed in world/risebreak and that was thanks to FU, and it was also the reason that drove me to learn English because i was a delinquent back then 😅 and wanted to understand what the hell the game is spewing out.
when MHW came out and people made some complaints about gathering and hunting, and I was like.......play the ps2 and come back to me

I played MH 1 on PS2 years ago and this brought back a lot of memories. Especially the hitboxes lol. I jumped back into the franchise with World and it blew my mind with all the improvements.

I played this when I was like 10 and it scarred me for life (never beat Rathalos) so I never touched another monster hunter game ever again.
This game was my first monster hunter experience it’s the game that actually got me hooked to the series i remember yian kut ku was my first wall i eventually beat him with my hammer lol

Bought the game couple months ago, got to a bullflango quest and was stuck falling while taking damage as they took turns charging me, I felt mycatoms smash and rearrange against that boulder
This is what I'm doing right now too. My last MH was World. My first was Freedom Unite, but my PSP broke back then. The first one I really played was Generations, but damn it is so hard to get into the Original at first. I knew GS didn't have charge attacks cuz I've played Freedom, which is MH1G in PSP form, but the right analog attacking confused me at first haha
Weirdly, the right analog stick controls have grown on me. It's not great, but going into MH Dos and Frontier I've gotten so used to it that it feels semi normal. 😂
For anyone wondering there is a well know mod called Mh plus for Mh1 and MhG that makes the gameplay more alike recent Mh ( attacks on square etc ) there is also one for MH2

Plesioth was, hands down, the worst. It would to that hip-ram attack from across the map and still hit you for a ton of damage.

I should touch the psp version again, but man.. Lance in that game is a goddamn pain.
I remember played this for 150+ hours in ps2, lol, diablos and that rath pair village quest was really really hard to do with my average arse skill, also diablos heart grind was a frggin chore...

The game's a lot easier when you're used to the mechanics: Rathian and Rathalos were famous for being headlocked by Lance, and were very easy to farm. And once you learned spawns during Delivery Quests were finite, you could get rid of all the Genprey in the Desert and then breeze through the rest. I played through to HR19 and did a bunch of Fatalis farming... without ever knowing about Armor Skills, because I used the Black Metal Boots for Defense and never got any to activate. 5/10, still not bad.

I..i...i get the reverse of gamer whiplash lol, i play alot of oldsch9ol mh to the point where it may be unhealthy but idc. So when i go to world or rise i have an anuerism trying to adjust to the major change of pace. Mostly why i dont play them as much lol.
MH1 is amazing tho, i completed it on official hardware and love it, wish minegarde was accessible on the western realease.

@LouTwoShoes haha goodluck with dos, I also have that on physical hardware and beat it on emulator and beleive me it is fucking tedious. But you got this, its a greater game just tedious and not worth the 3rd play through in my eyes in all honesty.

No many mechanics changed, with multiple AI changes, no online towns, and very different quest progression.
I know I'm just making a pun cause in FU your most notable hunts also go from Gather > the snow velociprey equivalent > the snow velocidrome equivalent > Kut-Ku > Gendrome

@@LouTwoShoesThe only way to access Rathian in MH1JP village is through the secret dual rath quest that you unlock after finishing every single village quest.
kahaha the suffering back then was just a feature, you went for a challenge, a game-control-gameplay-bugs-time-annoying sh1t challenge HAHA. You didnt went against the "trublesome pair" (rathian + rathalos at the same time, kind of a mating ritual so their damage is BOOSTED), the raging fcker Diablos (every 5 hits the fcker goes insane), the fatalis quest (if you dont do enough damage it insta-kills you), the gravios with a useless blade or hammer in a volcano map that drains your life, the stonepowder quest in a volcano area as the most annoying quest (once you touch the stonepowder, every area gets a pack of lodrome, bugs AND bullfangos, etc, etc.
The only thing i don't like about content creatros or MonHun youtubers that go back to play the first games is:
Why on earth do they choose to play MonHun 1 (PS2) but jump to Freedom Unite (PSP)?
Why not play MonHun Freedom? Or why not play MonHun Dos?

Some people are silly many skip MHG, F1, Dos, and F2 for some reason.
Though I think F1 is a mediocre product with buggy controls gotta use cheat codes to fix the controls so they don't drop inputs.
The grind is indeed the worst part in old gen, everything is so sloow. Loading time? Slow! Map transition? Slow! Mining? Slow! Gathering? Slow! Carving? Slow! Climbing? Slow! Quest completed or failed? SLOW. Not to mention there arent any gathering or mining nodes. Armor needs a bloat of different monster parts, you dont have a clear picture of weapon tree so you dont know if your weapon tree is good or not.
The control is horrendous, a part of difficulty in both ps2 and psp monster hunter series actually came from controller.
Imagine playing mh1, mh2, mhfu with normal gamepad and the fight became much more manageable.
In the end, its all part of monster hunter and its charm.
Every MH game has it's quirks, but the concept across all of them is too good.

Anyone who wants to jump into Gen 1 to see how different the series was, I strongly recommend you play *_Monster Hunter Freedom 1_* instead of the OG Monster Hunter 1.
Freedom 1 has all the online-only content from MH1 and MHG built into its offline mode, the controls are better and there new monsters.
While Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd are much better games, they also streamline the gathering process to the point that it feels a bit mindless.
Freedom 1 really preserves the strong focus on gathering and preparation that the OG had.

FFSif you think playing spiderman in a game where you supposed to hunt dragons is good you are crazy. Same with the guiding fireflies. you gotta be insane. The hardest mission on the whole game pre dlc is finding wyvern eggs because of those green fov blockers. You dont even have to find the damn monster anymore

I'm a freedom unite player, delve into freedom 2 sometimes, never played any of the newer games.
Im technically an older gen player, spending most of my time optimizing and playing around with mhfu.
To see a fellow old player denounce a newer game because it allows more movement is painful. There is nothing wrong with Rise, at least not to the level of hate.
I may not like difficultly disappearing but coming from a gen with bad hitboxes, insta charges and early gen rathalos... there's way more wrong with the older games.
Calling someone crazy for enjoying a newer game is geniunely backwards thinking. I know we can have a more civil discussion, and i apologize for my outburst, but something had to be said.

With mhw they fucked up with both the fun of exploration and your fov at the same time and in rise they literally implemented swinging arround, what was it called again, fortnite? Whats with all games adding spiderman mechanics? Geez even god of war did it. Its a sore thumb, doesn't fit with the game, its like adding circle blocks to tetris
