Note 8, better build and better screen resolution tapos may fast charging pa. Ang realme naman, bigger battery and better camera (based sa mga comparisons na nakita ko).
Yung Note 8 smaller battery. Yung Realme naman, smaller screen resolution tapos plastic lang sa likod therefore prone sa scratches.

For me Realme 5 is better than Redmi note 8, Realme 5 has bigger battery, Compare to redmi note 8 which 4000mah battery. And the back cover of redmi note 8 is glass which is it's cause heating issue while on gaming, I prepared Realme 5 no heating issue and best quality for me.

This is my evaluation about phones
in terms of UI Xiaomi wins because it's UI MUIU Is more capable of multi task unlike realme UI
In terms of OS They are the same running to android 9
In terms of Chipset They are same (Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665 (11 nm)
In terms of CPU they are same also (Octa-core (4x2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver)
In terms of GPU same Adreno 610
In terms of battery life Realme 5 is the winner because it has 5000mah power unlike Redmi note 8 only has 4000mah
In terms of display even they have same IPS LCD in this part Xiaomi win because it has corning gorilla
