    I agree that it should not be viewed as a kink, but it's not like naming a sex act is some super uncommon thing. There are very few things in sex that don't have a weirdly specific name, so not calling pegging pegging seems to me to make it stand out more from other sex acts, than just giving it a name.

    • @lemo8986
      @lemo8986 Před 2 lety +6

      i think what she meant was more like changing the name to something fresh and less stigmatized. which is entirely in the realm of possibility, i think, bcuz pegging is a slang word and slang changes constantly

      @@lemo8986 There's two separate criticism of the term. The first is that there is an issue with the particular word and where it came from so it should be changed. But there is also a separate group of people who believe that there shouldn't be a term for it at all. Hannah discussed the second criticism on an episode of Doing It with Quinn Rhodes.

      if that was her meaning, then i think there should be a word for those who want to use it and those who dont can avoid using it. as for where it came from, savage is a bit of a dumbass but, personally, i think putting it up to a vote was a good idea. let the people decide, art from the artist, blah blah blah. perhaps someone else in future who isnt a vile person could make another vote and try for a new term if we need one at all

      @@lemo8986 Yes, if people use a word to refer to something then that's what it means, no offence is intended by it. I know Hannah is a fan of using many different words to define other things, why should sex acts be different? 5:44 Even if something is "female in some way" it seems very problematic that that would make it "degrading, humiliating, or weak" for a man to do. This isn't just a homophobic idea, this is very much a sexist idea. The Ancient Romans saw being penetrated as weak and feminine, and made you less of a man, and that wasn't rooted in homophobia but sexism, and a controlling idea of class and gender (and that being a woman made you like a slave and that being a slave made you like a woman).

    Hi, Hannah! First of all, thank you for this video it was very informative and fun. The topic of pegging is really nuanced, as it gets at the heart of a lot of the frankly damaging social ideas around penises, penetration, and power. It is a cultural reality in our society that penises and penetration are associated with power, and I feel like you pointed that out often when talking about why strapping it on can make people feel empowered and help them embody new or different roles in sex. I also recognize that many of the ideas you were sharing came directly from people who like pegging, whose ideas reasonably reflect these cultural ideals. I worry though that you didn't take the time to critique some of the harmful aspects of this idea. I appreciate you pointing out the perspective that "pegging" as a term sanitizes the act of anal sex, but I feel you didn't really address the harmful nature of the cultural association of penises with power. The confidence that comes from pegging is real, but it comes from outdated and harmful beliefs about gender and genitals. Penises are just genitals, and while the cultural association with power is relevant in discussions of pegging, it is not inherent. The act of getting fucked in the ass is not inherently submissive, it is just one of many ways to experience pleasure. The association of penises with power, and of being penetrated with being submissive reinforces a fear we have in our society of penises, which harms transfeminine people with penises, and maintains systems of homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny. This video was extremely well crafted, and I am not about to start calling people out for using the term pegging, but I feel in this context I would be remiss not to point out how reinforcing the association of penises with power (rather than critiquing it) maintains certain systems of oppression. Thanks again for the thoughtful video, I really love your content!

      You rise a good point, Try to remember everybody is different and enjoy different aspects. But I think its the power dynamic that most people enjoy, at least for me.
      Being bent over is very valuable position with no direct control, So it takes trust which is a great bonding excise. When I'm submissive I gain a lot of indirect control and feel powerful, more powerful then topping.
      Obviously everyone is different, so difficult people enjoy different aspects, But I do think it not cultural but mostly inherent for many people.

      @nicojones1139 Před 2 lety +7

      @@pupip55 I really appreciate your perspective here! I want to clarify that I don't think it is wrong or bad for people to feel powerful in various sexual positions -- again, that confidence is real and a product of very real social relationships! And I agree that bottoming can feel both vulnerable AND powerful. I do want to encourage you to think about why you think attaching certain meanings to certain positions is inherent. Physical pleasure is inherent and may be associated with specific positions, but the meanings we associate with those positions aren't.

      To me, the one that is dominating is the one penetrating. It's my POV, and I think majority thinks like me, idk...
      Also, to me, a straight male that likes to be penetrated, it's not really straight, but bissexual. To me that's just how it is, straight males only like to penetrate females, not being penetrated, even if by their female partner. A so called straight male that's likes being penetrated it is just someone affraid to admit is own sexuality, and can "get a taste of it" without being called bissexual or gay, wich is still perceived as offensive to most of them, Because of well, society, you know what I mean.
      In the end, doesn't really matter how you indentify, how you have pleasure or who you have it with, or what do you call it. They're just labels and names, that's all.
      Again, this is my own POV, each rightfully has its own, based on many things.
      In the end, just do whatever you want and be respectful towards everybody else, and be happy 💪🙏✌❤

    I think it is interesting how penetrating is socially perceived as being synonymous with having power. While from one angle one might see the act of penetration as being powerful (given that one is "entering someone else's territory" or one is dominating the other, which is an act of power), from another angle, the act of providing "space" for penetration, the act of facilitating the passage of something, might be viewed as powerful as well.
    Take perhaps a silly example of a phone charger in an electric socket. Is one of these positions, being the charger or the socket, more powerful than the other? No. It is the social context that assigns power to these positions.

    So, the comment about lube is super on point. It tends to be pretty dry back there, and trying to force things can lead to tearing which you _really_ want to avoid. It also ups the friction, which can lead to other potential health consequences I think we'd all like to avoid, as well. If you're using a toy, then make sure you have a lube that won't damage it. For the first time, use a *lot.* You can dial it down in subsequent sessions until you know where the sweet spot is.
    And make sure to test it on all participants prior to fun time to ensure nobody has any surprise allergies or sensitivities. Finding out "the hard way" is absolutely unfun when talking about sex. I learned I have a sensitivity to the spermicide on some condoms my boyfriend had that way, and it was pretty much hell until my body managed to flush everything. Where you are right, you are right. There is never too much lube. There are only idiots who buy it from the wrong store.
    Humans are also nothing more than a dry-nosed primate aka mammal.
    The lube a vet uses will do the job just as well as the sex shop stuff, it's just a lot more affordable.
    At an online dealer in Germany, for example, KERBL Lubricating Gel VetGel costs between €9.14/l and €5.38/l for a purchase of 5 bottles, all including VAT and shipping. 2, 3 or 4 liters are in between, the stuff is also a little cheaper in 5-liter canisters, but handling it in the bedroom/playroom at home is more unwieldy. The 1 liter bottle is the better solution and if you buy more at once the price is right too. Whereby the provider and price is only an example, if you search, you will certainly always find a cheaper offer, also from other manufacturers.
    "Lubricating gel to make hands and arms slippery and an excellent skin protection during rectal and vaginal examinations" says in the description, so it's not only suitable for pegging, but also for fisting.
    Since it is water-based, it does not damage the silicone toys either.

    Fun topic!! I would like to try this act sometime.
    One thing though, the whole narrative of "feeling powerful being the one penetrating"... it implies that receiving isn't powerful or active and I don't relate!! Like, for me (a cis woman), I feel powerful letting my partner in, I'm the one enveloping or embracing the other, I'm getting what I want (obviously he does too, being a consensual relationship). I understand historically why it seems submissive, but it doesn't ring true, right?? As if being vulnerable were bad, as if it weren't the most powerful move after all.

      @@wowsuchname1939 I also feel that healing as a survivor, which was an unexpected bonus as my experience was 20 years ago. My husband loves it too. We trust each other in all areas of life. I think any sexual experience requires trust and sexual abuse is the ultimate betrayal. Your mind can heal but the body holds trauma longer than we realize. Sex is therapeutic in so many ways, individual and shared in its expression and somewhat creative too. Sex awakens all chakras, not just the root and sacral which are physically touched. Embodiment is so important for life and fulfillment on all levels. Sex is a wonderful primal tool for this. Yoga is another wonderful tool for embodiment and healing. Yoga is mind, body and breath connection - a way of life in moving prana i.e. energy.

Partially think it’s a question of dominance but also the unknown. Definitely would have to be steps in between as well, not going straight for it. I'm willing to try it for two reasons: 1) For prostate massage purposes. Because prostate massage has endless benefits. It is also discussed on Google, CZcams and books. 2) For the purpose of gratification in it, so that the participants get a touch of heaven. I have been listening to his podcast for the past year or so and didn’t hear him make any victim blaming or transphobic comments that I noticed. If anything I do remember him being trans affirming. So here’s hoping he changed but thanks for bringing it up.
    Also, I always thought of pegging as simply using a strap on dildo to penetrate anything in any type of person. Didn’t know there where gender connotations there till your podcast ep. Not sure if this is a more common definition with younger generations?

His jokes won't land the same for a younger vs older crowd, but far as I can tell he says what he does lovingly, and apologizes when his meaning doesn't come across. He's pretty supportive of everyone living their most authentic lives as long as that way doesn't truly harm anyone.

Like if the sub/dom roles are reversed but the strapon wearer/receiver are kept the same, does it need a new term or does it still fall into the same? --edit-- position mentioned at 12:08, so i guess in this context the "roles" have no bearing on the term just the strapon/anal defines it

      In the end, just do whatever you want and be respectful towards everybody else, and be happy 💪🙏✌❤"

      No, it isnt because its a trauma or anything. Its just for us men, we arent used to being fucked, we are used to fucking. While pegging itself isnt inherently a femdom thing, there is an undeniable power exchange in it from the side of the man to and in favor of the woman. So, that power exchange is one we as men we arent used to, so it makes the man feel emotionally vulnerable and in need of after care and holding the man close after it. And even it being more important if the woman decided to be dominant or display dominance in the bedroom, which would make the man feel more vulnerable despite both enjoying their time. Hope that answers your question.
