I’m a Latter-day Saint, let’s go through this video. Typically these videos analyzing children’s animatics reveal far more about the video maker than the religion, like a cringe social media Rorschach test.
0:45 ah, so you cringe at regular real life scenarios. Wow, little kids are cringey, who knew. Touch grass.
1:00 Wards are organized geographically. The diversity of your ward reflects the diversity of the area you live in. And in fact the church is seeing most of its growth among minority groups, not whites. I live in the most white and Mormon parts of Utah and my ward is still pretty diverse, with plenty of foreign born members. You’re just outing yourself by saying your local ward is all white. Either because you’re seriously colorblind and thought all the people you saw there were white because you assume all Mormons must fit that mold, or because you live somewhere actually that homogenized. Also, this isn’t an argument against Mormonism, it’s just a dig. There’s no way for them to win. If the cartoon showed an all white congregation you would have said “look how pasty white and lacking in diversity Mormons are.” As if skin color determines truth or value. Might want to read “I have a dream again.”
1:30 accountable for drawing a rockin’ frog perhaps. Dang, I wish Jesus put my childish drawings on his fridge door. If you can’t tell, I’m making fun of how ridiculous and flimsy this critique is. Show me any Mormon who believes Jesus wouldn’t laugh fondly at this.
2:00 projecting perversion onto children, classy.
2:05 Ah, so you actually haven’t ever been to a Latter-day Saint service. Yeah, this is just the Eucharist. Latter-day Saint churches are completely volunteer run and doesn’t have paid clergy, so there’s no collection plate, all donations are confidential and voluntary. As for the baptism thing, when you take the sacrament you’re reaffirming your baptismal covenant, but they still give it to everyone, baptized or not. If you’re not baptized it’s just there to help you feel closer to Christ.
2:15 notice how when he shows actual footage of LDS services they’re just as diverse as the cartoon. As opposed to this supposedly all white ward near him that he’s never actually been to and invented from his mental stereotype of Mormons.
3:00 It’s more about the ability to make conscious decisions. If a three year old shattered your dishes, you wouldn’t think much of it. But if an eight year old did, they’d be grounded because they knew what they were doing. This practice was instituted to preach against the Catholic idea that infants should be baptized, and that those who aren’t go to hell. Book of Mormon has a whole chapter (Moroni 8) about why infant baptism is an abomination. This would also be a good time to note that Latter-day Saints are universalists, we believe everyone gets into heaven.
3:45 uh-huh, real psychological warfare. Dad told the kid he wasn’t mad or in trouble, gave the kid the power to organize the discussion about the sacrament (so the kid knows what they’re gonna be talking about), and even promised treats. Seems like a standard family dinner table discussion. The kids don’t even get reprimanded. What are you mad about?
4:20 you need to get your history straight, or just learn to count. The provision about the emblems of the sacrament is D&C 27. The Word of Wisdom which advises against strong drinks (which could still allow for very mild alcohol) was given much later in section 89, and that advice wasn’t made a commandment until years after that. And the Word of Wisdom also states that there’s an exception: having “pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make” to be used for the Sacrament. You see the reason they stopped using wine was because the people they bought it from were literally poisoning them! If you didn’t know, people really hated Mormons back in the day (many still do), look up the Mormon Extermination Order is you don’t believe me. Anyway, had to start making it themselves, which wasn’t tenable, so God told them that the spirit of the ordinance mattered more than the emblems and allowed them to use water.
Of course, if we did use wine on the regular, I bet you would still complain about us giving wine to small children on a weekly basis. (Bro, I was joking! But you actually do exactly that at 5:45 you just can’t win with these people.)
4:55 Just so everyone knows, God doesn’t hate coffee. There’s nothing sinful about it. We abstain because we want to show God that we love him more than worldly pleasures and are willing to sacrifice for him. It also helps people develop self-discipline and control, because heaven forbid we encourage people to be self-reliant rather than become dependent on substances to function. We also do it because it’s, you know, healthier. There’s a reason Latter-day Saints live 8-11 years longer on average.
5:15 Look, just because the majority of Latter-Day Saints speak a second language due to all of us dedicating two years of our lives to serving local communities around the globe at our own expense, doesn’t mean we’re going to use that fact to flex on all you monoglots by only producing the Book of Mormon videos in Hebrew and Nahuatl so that no one else can understand them. But if you want to watch it in those languages, you can, because we also translated all these videos into dozens of languages. Including near extinct Mayan languages that don’t have any written language like Tseltal, all so that we can share the message of the Book of Mormon with the actual descendants of those people. See the article here: www.ldsliving.com/in-their-own-tongue-new-technology-brings-the-book-of-mormon-to-people-who-lack-written-language/s/10798
Oh, and by the way, the church went out of its way to get Native American actors for those videos as well.
6:15 because 1. Very few tribes had written language. 2. These guys get exterminated at the end of the Book of Mormon and their records are destroyed. 3. All the other tribes are also pretty much extinct today, there are almost zero full blooded native Americans left in the world. And 4. Despite all of this, several tribes have maintained these stories in their oral traditions, and then they convert en masse once they read the Book of Mormon.
6:55 so we’re mocking poor people now? Poor people like… Jesus? You’re right, we should force all the impoverished African wards to use artisan bread and fine wine for their sacrament meetings. Sure, there’s no way they could afford it, but at least they wouldn’t have to worry about looking poor. Talk about first world problems.
7:15 you know there are plenty of people who actually talk like this, right? It’s not weird. But shame on them for trying to accurately represent people and be inclusive. Look I know you hated being forced to watch Dora the Explorer as a kid, but can you stop being so negative about everything?
7:35 yes, a children’s cartoon using the actual objects involved for an object lesson, how silly and stupid. Clearly they should just have a guy preach into a camera instead, that’ll help the kids understand better. Also, was that you attempting a Spanish accent? I honestly can’t tell. As a final side note, these JW clips really aren’t comparable to what’s being said in the Latter-day Saint video at all.
8:25 Bro, these are some of the most generic Christian messages ever. People have been saying this stuff for 2,000 years. I’m sorry a children’s cartoon about Jesus is too spiritual and emotional for you. If you want something more logical, I would suggest you stop dissecting children’s cartoons and start engaging with the evidence, because believe it or not, we don’t tell people to avoid investigating the church, quite the opposite. The Book of Mormon is all about empiricism. For example, that “pray for a good feeling” thing at the end of the book is actually a promise that you’ll receive a supernatural experience. God knows what it will take to convince you, and he’s willing to give it to you if you’re willing to accept the outcome.

On a serious note, I think that many religions (I am a Roman Catholic) try to imbue "Their version" of how they interpret the life of Jesus Christ. And that is fine, let them interpret the way they see fit. But, they forget about a simple request made by one of the prisoners on the cross beside Jesus. He said to Jesus "I am guilty of my crime, and my punishment is just. But please father, do not forsake me". And Jesus told him that he would sit beside him in paradise. A lowly prisoner.
It doesn't take elaborate rituals, it doesn't take consumption of foods or drinks to be forgiven by Jesus. It only takes a humble heart, a belief that you did wrong, and that you want to be forgiven. And yes I know there are many who have done heinous crimes. But, there is forgiveness even for those who do not believe. You do you!! It's wrong to indoctrinate or force anyone into a belief no matter how "noble or righteous" the cause. It is better to offer and simply be refused, than it is to make someone believe against their will. So do not judge and "forgive and let live".

I tried so hard to find this said "still, small voice" but I truly have never experienced this or other promptings from the Holy Ghost. Hello, practicing Catholic here. I’m sorry you’re being made to go to classes when you’re not really interested in participating in the sacrament of Confirmation. Everyone has their own faith journey, and while I do believe that the sacraments are very important sources of grace, it might also be worth your while to talk to your instructors and explain where you’re at belief-wise. It’s better to be honest and open about what your actual thoughts and beliefs are than to approach something holy and meaningful out of obligation/force - it will only lead to discomfort and bitterness for you. That being said, I will pray for you as you continue your classes.
It sounds like you’ve got a very rudimentary understanding of the Holy Spirit but there is a lot that you’re missing or misunderstanding. The Holy Spirit is God, just as the Father and Jesus are God, and while everything we do is by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit, it’s not so much that He gives us (or priests) magical abilities, but more that He manifests God’s life and power in us in certain ways, as a gift. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I do encourage you to do your own further research, read good books, and talk to people who are strong in their faith and can explain things in a sincere and honest way. I wish you the best of luck in this process, and I hope that in the end you are able to do what is consistent with your heart and beliefs either way.

Hi its me again! Exmo, 17, just gonna write this as I watch!
2:11 Even people who aren't baptized yet can partake of the sacrament! The way they teach us it works is that it sort of is like a mini baptism where you repent of sins and renew your covenants. Boys who turn 12 are allowed to pass the sacrament. There is often a designated bench for them, and a little guide to show what path they need to take. After the sacrament has been passed, they then partake in the sacrament, and once it is fully over, they are invited to sit with their families.
5:16 the explanation they give for this is because back then wine was often much safer to drink than water, which could often be contaminated, or filled with disease, so in that case it's okay. Now that we have good water, we are expected to abstain from caffeine or alchohol. From what I know, the church is more lenient with poorer countries on this that may not have access to good drinking water.
6:19 they all kill each other at the end of the book, the only native americans left are the lamanites and nephites who turned from god, and moroni, mormon's son, who burried the golden plates, along with the urim and thummim (seer stones, my parents often related to the internet, where you have any knowledge you want, just without any false information. This is supposedly how Joseph Smith translated the book of mormon.
7:37 Mormons LOVE using props and dumbing down lessons for kids in a "fun" way.. often treats at the end. Only reason I kept going for as long as I did. Huge food culture in the mormon church
8:30 the holy ghost is literally every feeling you will ever feel pretty much haha... anxious? Paranoid? Any sort of instictive or gut feeling? Its a warning. Happiness, satisfaction or any sort of warm feeling is the "good job" from the holy ghost. I personally always mistook hunger for a "no" when praying.
13:35 They'd probably like to think that too if the chapel wasn't so damn cold in every building
Same as my last comment im always happy to answer any questions!

      @danielthecake8617 Před měsícem +1

Gotta relate to the chapel being cold...
Seriously, it was literally colder in the chapel than anywhere else.
Btw, the reason they "dumb it down" is because the best way to learn about the Gospel is to build from the simpler parts onto bigger parts.

Ex mormon here, started deconverting at the age of twelve. No way in hell was any of the churches I've been to THAT diverse. I live in utah, been to roughly 18 churches, only ever saw roughly 6 black people. Also, did you know, there's such thing as hispanic wards? For spanish-only speakers? It's wild. The only mormons you'll ever run into are either white, or hispanic here in utah. I dunno how many other ethnicities there are, never payed attention. I went to a hispanic ward once because my aunt is hispanic, and I see black people so rarely, it catches me off guard when they do show up. Only reason why I noticed. Seminary in school, I swear to god, the times I went, there were so many blonde-blue eyed kids, I about had a stroke 😭💀

Exmo here, very glad you're covering this. Sometimes it is good to know I'm not crazy for finding everything about it ridiculous. The part about people being told to pray and wait for feelings rather than actually researching the place always felt weird to me. And the worst part is some mormons use it to defend the faith, saying it makes it MORE trustworthy rather than less so.

I remember when I was a Christian and went to this one church as a kid, there was art all over the walls of Jesus being crucified, and people getting stabbed all over the place, and I also remember my dad telling me about Jesus's death when I was very VERY young, and I was horrified. I do not think that kids of a young age should have to hear about that, or see that. I had to get used to seeing that a lot.
