- Today we figure out where and how the S54 and 6 speed manual transmission will be placed in the E30. We picked up a spare front subframe from my friend PartsEuropean and proceeded to disassemble and cut it up so we can start fabricating a custom front subframe. We also experiment with the stock BMW e30 transmission crossmembers to see what we can fit! Nice progress! BTW I've seen them called engine hoists, shop cranes, cherry pickers, etc. Although, an actual "cherry picker" is a crane that people can stand in, presumably to pick cherries from a tree.

I only prefer time lapses for repetitve processes that don't serve the purposes of the video. For example I don't particularly care to watch six, eight or twelve repetitive sparkplug swaps when just one is plenty. Time lapse can cover the repetitive processes.
Haha thank you! There will be a lot of Timelapses when we start cleaning and doing more repetitive tasks, but definitely plan on keeping all of the “figuring out” and info!

I suggest moving the engine and extra 1 inch to the intake side to make space for the big ball bearing borg Warner turbo with 3.5inch down pipe because normally getting the lengths equal for the headers needs a little more space.
Lol we can just get rid of the AC compressor or just put a cutout in the hood ;)
@@ShopLifeTV no no, since this will be twin charged, the AC is only removed to fit an Eaton M112H supercharger in place.
And likewise you need the space at the front for the steering fluid cooler

Hi guys just my 2 cent thought, why not rather use the BMW Z3 Subframe w/ sway bar or the BMW E34 M50 Front sump and pickup, therefore you can use the S54 rear pickup sump/ oil pan.
As the saying goes...."If it works is it really a dumb idea?". LOL.

Whats with the bits of wood to work out engine mounts!!??you have that lovel inner wing mounted adjustable engine support u could set it up perfect then use a thing called a tape measure if u have them in the usa??????
Any update on this? Curious how you’re going to make this work. The steering rack needs to go where it was on the e30 subframe. It needs to line up with the steering knuckle close to where it was originally or you’ll get bump steer, and other problems. If the original steering rack position on that subframe is in the way of the oil pan, you need to move the engine somewhere else.

the e36 m3 steering racks work with it especially if u change it to the 5 lug knuckles aswell
We will be using e36 knuckles and a hybrid E36 coilover. Planning to go with a E46 rack since Z3 racks are super hard to find!
i think you should start considering changing tthe oil pan and making stuff a little bit easier, i know you want to get into fab and that. but there is a lot you can still do to get into that, and that wont be such a pain in the ass as making a subframe and a steering rack mount. And im saying this because i made that kind of stuff and its no fun.... Great content though!!
If we just wanted to quickly build the car and slap it together I would definitely go with a front sump oil pan. But we will probably never get rid of this car and continue to build and change it over the years so I would rather do it the right way to begin with. The front sump also has bad clearance and once we lower the car that pan will probably not stand a chance

Just use an m50 e34 front sump oil pan and pump. much better then making an new subframe 😅
Definitely much easier than making a new subframe, but the s54 oil pan is much better. This car will also be lowered and the front sump pans have bad clearance to begin with.

Are you planning on doing a facelift conversion or maybe euro bumpers?
Ideally mtech conversion with euro grills. But we will see what we can get our hands on! Cosmetics are not a priority yet, need to spend money on everything else first lol

If you're not interested in doing the E30 M30 front bumpers (a popular choice but not for everyone), look at the iS front lower valance cover. Be sure to get the version appropriate for your bumper style.
Will you help me do this if I get a e36? You can take the car for as long as you need for any and all content creation purposes obviously
