  • Rabbi Dr. Reuven Leigh is a shliach and affiliated lecturer at University of Cambridge.
His recent book, “The Philosophy of Rabbi Sholom Ber Schneersohn: Language, Gender and Mysticism,” endeavors to bring the famous maamorim of 5659 (RaNaT) into dialogue with postmodern thinking.
We sat down to discuss what led him to focus on these maamorim, his relationship with Reb Volf Greenglass and other personalities in Montreal, and his lessons about Chassidus and the Chossid persona he carries to this very day.

Rabbi Avraham Chen has a chapter about him in the book, "9 1/2 Mystics: The Kabbala Today," published originally in 1969, by Herbert Weiner. The author met him a few times starting in 1947 in Jerusalem.

Interviewer needs to review this and pay attention to the little conversation prompting noises he makes, his sense of timing tends almost to interruption. The interview itself is insightful and interesting.

Thx for the feedback. Looking back, I was a bit too comfortable for this conversation. As always, the podcast - and I - are a work in progress.

@@HomesickforLubavitch By the end of the interview the sense of restrained impatience has dissipated and it feels more naturally conversational, so perhaps it wasn't that you were too comfortable bit that it took a while to arrive in your comfort zone. Thank you for making these films and having these conversations.

It’s a great conversation! And a real teaser to get the book on the Rebbe RaShaB, and to look up Rabbi Avraham Yehuda Chain (spelled Khein in Wikipedia). And BTW, I feel you never master any part of the Torah! The job is to get the Torah to master you! And it masters each person in a unique path!

Both are true at same time. Like how we call someone a Talmid Chochom (wise student or student of the wise)
