  • This is it! For the first and the final time, the last Canadian Vickers MR-63 in service runs the Blue Line, culminating in the wrapping up of its 52-year service life in the Montreal Metro. From the world's fair in 1967 and Olympics in 1976, to countless other events since opening day, these trains have seen it all and have served Montrealers reliably. Now, after approx. 4 million kilometers (nearly 2.5 million miles) traveled per car, it is time to say goodbye.

I’m an expat living in the US but I am originally from the south shore. One of my earliest memories was riding the MR63 train after my mother took me to see Empire Strikes Back when I was 3 years old. I remember getting off the train at Atwater station and because I was hungry my mom bought me a slice of all-dressed pizza. It was the best day of my life.

Great Video and passion for the trains. I was in Montreal for the last day. After riding the Metro for five days, I believe it's the best system in North America by far.

I went for a full round trip of the blue line on the MR-63 on that last day. Seeing a MR-63 on the blue line was a treat in itself, since they were never used on that line.

It was the highlight of that last week of service for me.

    I was there! 12:36 That’s me with the NYC F-Train t-shirt 😅 🍊
I loved the old adverts from the 1960’s. Dupuis Frères, Steinbergs, Eaton’s... my childhood! I was 2 when the metro opened.
1:42 That’s the sound i remember of the MR63, that metallic/squishy sound... And the reedy song of the motor going up the scale. And the tap-tap-tap-tap-tatatata-tagadap... Pure nostalgia! 😅

And me at 15:17 and then yelling “Un autre tour!” 🤣

I've actually took the MR-63 once back in 2014. I didn't really realize how much of a subway train that it meant to transit fans. I mean, I don't live there so how would I know :P

I don't live in Montreal either, but these were the best old trains. The Jeumont motor is what everybody loved the most. I never got to see it at all, and now that they're retired, I never can. You were lucky to even ride the MR-63.

The Montreal Expo was a defining moment for the city in 1967. The Expo world fair saw 50 million visitors in a city that had a population of 1.3 million. To this day it is still considered the most successful world's fair. These Subway trains were a legacy of that event and it is very sad to see them go as very little of the Expo remains on the city .
