    I own a Gibson and a Martin - IMO Martin's are more "articulate" with each note ringing out, each string clear and sparkly- very clear highs and lows. The Gibsons are warm and harmonically rich with more of a "mid-forward" presentation and resonant "smear". Both are wonderful, and just when you fall in love with one, you pick up the other and fall in love with it.

      Bryan Micheal Block I both too Bryan. I feel the same way. I've been playing the Hummingbird non stop now for about a month. I was thinking the other day of unwinding the strings on my Martin and putting it away in its case. I picked it up and strummed it. I haven't put it down now for two days. I love them both.

      @DownhillingGuitarist Před 5 lety +1

      Never "unwind" your strings. Modern guitars (Including Martins) have a truss rod to counter the forces of string tension. An un-tensioned neck is the first thing you do if you want your neck to warp, bow or twist. If your guitar is set up correctly, it can sit for years with the neck under normal string tension.

    Couldn't understand the first part, but I LOVE how you do the brief comparisons back and forth!! It makes it easy to hear the differences. All instrument comparisons should be done this way!!!

      On this showing I prefer the Martin for sound but the Gibson
      looks pretty however not a lot to choose between them just my ear prefers the Martin

    Bentley vs Rolls Royce...
    Ferrari vs lamborghini...
    Rolex vs Patek...

    They're all great, and they're all MORE than I NEED.
    Either one is better

    Best guitar comparison live seen yet. No bullshit talking” I wouldn’t understand anyway”.I was a bit disappointed in how the Martin blew the Gibson away here. I really had my heart set buying the songwriter. Wow. It’s very obvious in this demo too.

    I bought a used Gibson Songwriter Deluxe CUSTOM...I've owned Martin EC 000-28, Martin D 41...and played many...But this 2011 Custom shop I bought used for less than half orig list is the MOST UNIQUE ,playable ,not too gaudy but pretty to me with wood bindings and gorgeous inlays.But the sound is why shes my best ever laid my hands on ...and balance ,tone, and the rounded neck play ability is unsurpassed.The advanced X bracing is key to her superior tone.( No I don't work for Gibson or a music store)

  • @Knowasark
    @Knowasark Před 3 lety +2

    If these two guitars were standing at a bar having a drink, I would want to have a conversation with the Gibson over the Martin.It's sound is far more interesting, less predictable, enticing, intriguing, even if not as a perfectly crisp as the Martin.

      I have always wondered why some people characterize the Gibson sound as "warm". To my ears it is bright, though pleasingly so, while the typical Martin sound is actually much warmer, and has a bit of an oud-like quality. I suspect that people's ears/hearing/internal audio processing just differ.

    I own both guitars. If you want to be fare the Gibson has electronics,abalone,and mother of pearl plus it is considered a small dreadnought $3200 with tax add $100 if you want cutaway and the Martin is a full sized dreadnought with no extras and is $1200 plus more so compare it to a Gibson of equal value you can get a songwriter mystic or a J200 both with electronics still hundreds cheaper than a DC28E is $4900 with tax. These days Martins ain't worth the money. Instead of listening to a chinese youtube video cause the guitars sound totally different when you play them. How many martins and gibsons do you own Mr cardboard $200 Epiphones don't count.I got my D28 a few years back it was $2199 The Gibson was $2499 If you want a decent priced Martin no richlite fingerboard and bridge rosewood back/sides and Adirondack Spruce Top no pick up and the back is satin finish The DR Centennial for $2800 with tax. Do your research people.
