I own a Gibson and a Martin - IMO Martin's are more "articulate" with each note ringing out, each string clear and sparkly- very clear highs and lows. The Gibsons are warm and harmonically rich with more of a "mid-forward" presentation and resonant "smear". Both are wonderful, and just when you fall in love with one, you pick up the other and fall in love with it.
Bryan Micheal Block I both too Bryan. I feel the same way. I've been playing the Hummingbird non stop now for about a month. I was thinking the other day of unwinding the strings on my Martin and putting it away in its case. I picked it up and strummed it. I haven't put it down now for two days. I love them both.
Never "unwind" your strings. Modern guitars (Including Martins) have a truss rod to counter the forces of string tension. An un-tensioned neck is the first thing you do if you want your neck to warp, bow or twist. If your guitar is set up correctly, it can sit for years with the neck under normal string tension.
Couldn't understand the first part, but I LOVE how you do the brief comparisons back and forth!! It makes it easy to hear the differences. All instrument comparisons should be done this way!!!
I have a Gibson songwriter but mine sounds better than that On this showing I prefer the Martin for sound but the Gibson looks pretty however not a lot to choose between them just my ear prefers the Martin
Bentley vs Rolls Royce... Ferrari vs lamborghini... Rolex vs Patek... Gibson vs Martin... They're all great, and they're all MORE than I NEED. Either one is better
Best guitar comparison live seen yet. No bullshit talking” I wouldn’t understand anyway”.I was a bit disappointed in how the Martin blew the Gibson away here. I really had my heart set buying the songwriter. Wow. It’s very obvious in this demo too.
@@maraviyoso8473 I agree now. I actually ended up buying a songwriter. The first one I bought had no bottom end but I found one that did and I love it. Cutway too
I bought a used Gibson Songwriter Deluxe CUSTOM...I've owned Martin EC 000-28, Martin D 41...and played many...But this 2011 Custom shop I bought used for less than half orig list is the MOST UNIQUE ,playable ,not too gaudy but pretty to me with wood bindings and gorgeous inlays. But the sound is why shes my best ever laid my hands on ...and balance ,tone, and the rounded neck play ability is unsurpassed. The advanced X bracing is key to her superior tone.( No I don't work for Gibson or a music store)
If these two guitars were standing at a bar having a drink, I would want to have a conversation with the Gibson over the Martin. It's sound is far more interesting, less predictable, enticing, intriguing, even if not as a perfectly crisp as the Martin.
Wow. Great comparison. At times I was all in for the Martin, at other points I liked the Gibson. Both are great, it's just a matter of personal preference. BTW. I own a 2005 Gibson Songwriter Deluxe.
This is how all comparisons should be done. I just wish I could understand what he was saying. Other than that - great comparison. I own a Gibson... this Martin blew away this Gibson in this comparison in my opinion.
I have always wondered why some people characterize the Gibson sound as "warm". To my ears it is bright, though pleasingly so, while the typical Martin sound is actually much warmer, and has a bit of an oud-like quality. I suspect that people's ears/hearing/internal audio processing just differ.
I have a Songwriter and I thought the sound is already great, but Martin is extremely "pure" and opened. Please let me know what pick did you use anyway.
I have tried this and many Martins in person and the sound is very specific to country or bluegrass and that’s it. Not a versatile sound. I picked a Taylor over it hands down
I own both guitars. If you want to be fare the Gibson has electronics, abalone, and mother of pearl plus it is considered a small dreadnought $3200 with tax add $100 if you want cutaway and the Martin is a full sized dreadnought with no extras and is $1200 plus more so compare it to a Gibson of equal value you can get a songwriter mystic or a J200 both with electronics still hundreds cheaper than a DC28E is $4900 with tax. These days Martins ain't worth the money. Instead of listening to a chinese youtube video cause the guitars sound totally different when you play them. How many martins and gibsons do you own Mr cardboard $200 Epiphones don't count.I got my D28 a few years back it was $2199 The Gibson was $2499 If you want a decent priced Martin no richlite fingerboard and bridge rosewood back/sides and Adirondack Spruce Top no pick up and the back is satin finish The DR Centennial for $2800 with tax. Do your research people.
The Martins I owned Both had flaws...neck joint, and neck inlays off center. The Gibson 2011 Songwriter Deluxe CUSTOM has no flaws.....NONE. Most important tone is ...well just the best.Brand loyalty is BS....Hows does it sound ,feel, make you feel? That used Gibson is the best guitar I've ever owned...tonally and aesthetically...wow factor x 11

The Martin sounds incredible but the Gibson acoustic has always been my dream guitar!

Thanks, I really like the way you do your side-by-side comparisons. I'm a Gibson fan but the D-28 sounds better to my ears.

It didn't.

Sound comparison starts at 3:17

Both sound awesome, I hear the D28 sound as drier, while Gibson sounds richer. I guess only matter of taste here, no ultimate winners...
Richer? If you play it money comes from the soundhole?
Gibson is crisp and woody. Gibson wins!
i dont feel martin better the songwriter got more dynamic sound for my ear
best comparison demos out there. (y)

Great comparison. Great playing too. I thought I was going to like the Gibson. But, WOW. The Martin sounded better.
I always prefer D28 for picking and the songwriter for picking. Since I prefer songs with a lot of picking much more I went with the songwriter.
Lol that makes no sense. You said the Martin was better for picking.
平哥进军油管了啊
Wonderfully different.
The big E on the gibson struggles to project, where as the martin E shines.
Liked the Gibson for arpeggios, but strummed it sounded a little thin.
The Martin sounds so much better, The Gibson is pretty with the abalone.
??????
I prefer the Martin. The Gibson sounds a bit thin and tinny to me. I have a D-28. Love it.

Wow. The sound of the Martin is hands down better.
I like them both. Niether wins in my opinion, they are simply different, but both great.
I don’t think the player shows either guitar off to their full potential
Martin sounds better in this case
gibson is way more articulate, much cleaner sounding
Martin best 💪🏻
泰勒斯威夫特同款
Studio Gibson acoustic has a thinner body than a Martin D
Is this the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe STANDARD or STUDIO?
Never mind. I should have looked at the entire video. I see this is a Studio. To me, the Standard sounds better.
@@wilwrenn2009 AGREED
Gibson has a richer sound and is way better-looking ... Martin often sounded thin & high and is same old plain jane
TOP
Gibson comes over slightly more strident
no le creo
Much better Martín !!!
Sorry, cant understand your review. I can only say Japanese word Toyota.
martin!!!!!
M
Martin wins
martin wins in my books you cant beat a martin
sure you can
I have tried this and many Martins in person and the sound is very specific to country or bluegrass and that’s it. Not a versatile sound. I picked a Taylor over it hands down
@@jimgodofbiscuits taylors do rule thats for sure
MAAAARTIN hahaha
That's a songwriter studio, that means it's slimmer.
Nope. SWD has exactly the same dimensions as a Songwriter Standard and Songwriter Custom. I own all three.
thanks@@heritage80elite

Gibson sounds like cardboard against Martin :)
Gibson sounds like a cheap one.
