To those berating the Wrangler driver for inexperience, how much experience did you start off with?
Kudos for helping him (twice). He has learned a bit more from you.

If one doesn't get stuck occasionally then one hasn't found their limits.
I'm new to 44-wheeling (inexperienced). I push my boundaries a little more each outing. Haven't gotten stuck yet, but I have some recovery gear and learning what I can about self-recovery.

true, but even if you don't have a clue what you are doing it shouldn't be that hard to understand that you don't stand on the brakes when you are getting winched.

You should only be doing what you are actually capable of doing.
It's not rocket science, know your ability. Sometimes people get over confident due to the vehicle they can buy. You see it all the time in the Super car world! Idiot spends a fortune on a fast car without taking actual driven courses to make himself a better driver and they wreck.
Until you are more knowledgeable about off roading, stick to smaller trails without snow and mud. Build yourself up to levels of capability.

Good job guys. I drive Jeep but can't knock Toyota since I was in charge of Import/Export until I retired several years go. I also agree with the comment that the guy in the Jeep had no business doing off the road. Keep up the good job and stay safe. p.s. I'm in East Tennessee , ever get this way let me know. Jim

I've had a harbor freight 12000lb winch on my 95 Chevy Tahoe and never be afraid to get stuck they are strong and hold up really well doesn't matter if you have 2 or 4wd that winch will pull you out

Jeeps are horrible in the snow, I've pulled more than my fair share of them out. They are too light and don't get enough traction.

I have the same wench. Bought it for my car hauler trailer... I've pulled some big dead vehicles up on the trailer with just the wench... no problems. "I couldn't get stuck"... no kidding... you're driving a Toyota! :D

It's a relatively easy trail. The big gate at the end is always locked. It was open once, if you go up it you end up at the ski lifts of Mt. Baldy... pretty sure you're not supposed to do that though hahahaha.

Coming from a jeep owner, this man has no reason offroading or even owning a jeep if 1. He couldn't get through that but a toyota could, 2nd like really. Foot on the brake ? That's just common sense

      @DirtComplex  Před 4 lety +2

Yeah the driver was very humble so at least he learned a lot from this experience. We have a 2020 Wrangler Rubicon V6 joining the channel. I love Toyotas but any real car enthusiast can't deny that wranglers are bad ass! (Older cherokees are cool too haha)

Yeah my 4runner has nothing fancy. No lockers. Made it just fine. It was definitely driver inexperience and that's why I didn't poke fun at the wrangler during the video.

Dirt Complex -you have ATRAC, effectively it’s an LSD at each axle. It’s very capable and easier on the driveline than a locker. Yota LandCruisers, FJ’s and Runners are easily as capable as most Jeeps. I’ve owned an 85 & 03 4Runner and a 95 YJ (4.0L & 5spd). Jeeps are a blast top down, on the dunes and off road..especially top down...but the ride beats the hell outa you, the death wobble sucks and mine broke all the time. I love working on trucks but not in the Mojave.
I like knowing my runner’s getting me home from the middle of the desert, that it’s got all the modern safety nannies on road, that I don’t need to see the chiropractor after a trip and I can sleep inside it comfortably when it’s blistering hot or freezing cold and wet.

Nice of you to have helped that guy out. With unexpected weather and possibly not being prepared to stay the night in that Jeep it could have turned out bad for them. Also, even if it's freezing cold, crack the windows slightly open if you'll sleep in your vehicle. Carbon Dioxide can build up in a vehicle within hours and can kill. So be prepared. Other things to do if stuck in snow or sand are your floor mats or remove air from your tires. Be safe out there.

We usually do. I'll admit, during the summer these are pretty easy trails we were definitely lazy about airing down that night. The amount of snow was definitely unexpected. Goes to show... airing down before at a more comfortable spot is always best!

Lytle Creek in Southern California. It's not always full of snow. Maybe only a couple weeks out of the year.
