Cicadas might be my favorite animal. They are harmless, just noisy. Furthermore, they can not transmit diseases and are incredibly nutritional for almost all parts of the environment, everything from trees (via the body's getting decomposed) to squirrels and even people! The organ that produces the noise is incredibly fascinating and efficient even to the point that some technologies are being/have been inspired by it. This year, particularly, there are many broods active at once, so the number of them is significantly larger than normal. The last time this happened was over a hundred years ago! I just love hearing them sing. Very fascinating arthropods!
