  • My Jaguar XJ5.3C manual has been fully rebuilt over the past 11 months and now it's finished, I took it on a 400 mile trip to experience it on some of my favourite roads in North Wales. This video reveals if it all went according to plan..

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter Před 2 lety +4

      Sir William did not come up with that tag line, but it was somebody in the company. One thing Sir William did give us was this car's elegant design, uncluttered by the dreck that is mandatory on today's large sedans. Sir William mandated that the XJ series have a single uninterrupted line on both sides of the cabin, running from front to back, and that's what we get here.

I used to own one back in the day when i was younger in my 20s and their great little hot hatch’s plus you’ll get spare parts easier which same can’t be said for the Porche 924. Great looking car and a great job done by everyone including Harry who has put his hand in his pocket to make sure this car is enjoyed well into the future. In my opinion this is the best looking coupe ever made.

    Rain is not that bad , its the below 3 degrees and salting the roads is the issue.
    Gritters out most days and no frost, environmental assessment needed on that's 400 tons of salt with no need .
    Enjoy the roads. Stay safe thanks for sharing.. 😎

    Fantastic car! I'm impressed by your tasteful upgrade choices, having owned a '76 XJ12C in the States. I very much wanted to do a manual conversion, but there were other pressing things, like body rot. The twin tanks are a pain. Sometimes the valves stick, causing supply from one tank and return to the other. That might explain the puzzling fuel gauge behavior. So glad you are using this wonderful car.

    A great video of a beautiful car - thanks Harry.
    I'd like to mention a couple of things born of experience of living with these cars. When closing the boot lid just bring the lid slowly to a close and gently squeeze it shut. The other tip is about fuel management. Start with both tanks full. Drive on right tank until 1/2 full, then swap to left tank and drive until empty. You then have 60 to 90 miles of reserve waiting for you in the right tank. No need for a reserve warning lamp. 1/2 emptying the RH tank first rebalances the weight distribution in the car when driving with only the driver on board.
    So pleased to see you enjoying this fabulous car. A v12 manual for non-ridiculous money, what's not to like.

      Wouldn't it make more sense for weight balance if you were to half empty the right tank, half empty the left tank and then run the right one dry?

      There's always the option of joining the tanks. gets rid of some electrickery as well

    The Jaguar is definitely a wonderfully understated yet really stylish piece of British automotive design that you’ve managed to highlight with the new paint colour, as for the exhaust note it just on the right side of raucousness for a V12 sports coupe

    Harry, there are so many comments, that the fuel tank question might have been answered already. I will take a shot at it anyway. The fuel tank switch has two sets of contacts. One to switch the delivery valve from left to right. The other to select the left or right fuel sender. If the switch has bad sender contacts you will have misleading info. If the tank selector contacts are bad, the tank selector valve will default to the left tank. But the sender will report on the right tank.
    Beautiful car, beautiful color!

    On the beach, I know exactly where you are, spent all my summer holidays there. Another chapter in the XJ's life. Can't wait to hear that engine once the running in, has completed. Some of those roads were my favourite roads in the early 80's.
