does it matter if its for verizon or t mobile etc? do i just buy an unlocked one to use with my laptop?

Hi, it only matters that the sim matches the MiFi unit itself. You can easily buy them unlocked in the UK for about £20. Often network carriers will supply them cheaper but they will often be locked to their brand. Your laptop doesn't care what you're using though
