- This week's question from the Weld App is about keeping your Tig root consistent on a 5G weld. Here @dr.weldz demonstrates using the side tack to help brace your filler wire to have more control over where you are putting that wire. Head on over to CZcams and watch the full episode. • Keeping Your Root Pass...

I have never welded but understood this perfectly
😂
Your absolutely correct. Been pipe welding 15 years and it’s honestly better to face feed it but come in from the side wich alows you to back feed and you can watch it spin off of the filler wire like a hurricane
good real tip, had to figure it out on my own but he is absolutely correct!
Do it both ways. Learn how to face feed too.
He only has a short section of pipe to show you the wire, in the field you’d be looking through an 1/8 inch hole through a hood. Gets tricky. When you get good at this it makes a hell of a difference in comfort
Solid advice that's a great idea I do fumble fuck when I back feed through the top. That may work allot better
Your feeding wire best degree are 40 to 60 degree depend on the welding positions
Welders from the south usually use that Rod feed just like he is showing you and it's a much harder way to put the root pass in if you're using heliarc welding I have found a much better way and there's a guy on CZcams that shows it and it works so wonderful whatever the size your feed wire is make your Gap smaller than the width of your feedwire then you just lay your feedwire on top inside the v groove and you don't zig zag your Arc , your action is front and back , front and back , front and backwards real quick and fast and it'll lay in the most beautifulest root pass in there without the worry about undercut on both sides or blow through but to each his own It's usually the Boilermakers that use the technique he is showing you.
Thank you for this tip 👍
Good advice because that's what I was having trouble with.
Mate one question in the uk , we can only gap 10 % of the thickness, is it the same in the USA , Ps codes coded welders we can’t make it up as we go along , the producer has to be followed, that seams like quite a nice gap , 😊
Its for smallest tubes like 4 inches and less is better
that part is easy, talk about tieing in
new welder here could doing this cause any issues or improvements in the weld or is this an operator preference ie comfortability, etc
If been welding for years. I don't get it
A MASTER !
that is contamination. do it the hard way. after that sort the bucket of bolts on the back of the truck
Me too!
6” sch. 80?
I tell my girl this all the time in bed
The Japanese and Philippines teaches you Americans
What the hell is a 5 g weld? You do your root with 1/8 gap with a bevel, your fill weld then your cover, this guy is bs
5G is vertical, and he is not stick welding, on big bore, heavy wall you would run a 3/16 gap for tig
@@rexstevens90171/8 3/32 back feed from the top. Come on bro 😂
@@rexstevens9017*horizontal
@@rexstevens9017 He got his cell phone out trying to weld with it.
I have yet to loose location when feeding from the top, 2 tacs top and bottom quarter one size, weld the other side and finish the side you started on. This is beginner shit here.
