Thank you all for watching. Write in the comments, what kind of knife do you want us to make?
Take on a huge project and make the Ulfberht sword from wootz steel! 😁
If you’ve already done it let me know where I can find it please, if not then do a Bowie or Viking style warnkliffe blade made of twisted Damascus or just Damascus, the twist might take away from the beauty Lol with atleast 1 but preferably 3 layers of copper added in. So Damascus blade with 1-3 layers of copper, if you do the twist then twist first and add copper afterwards so the copper is straight. I’m doing a wrought iron warnkliffe with high carbon cutting edge, the weld held and I’m grinding now. No delams yet haha good luck!! 👍🏼 the kiridashi turned out awesome!!!
Use g your hands like a real blacksmith I love it keep it up
Is that salt youre adding to the crucible?
Okay 👌
I've always been interested in steels like wootz and I've always wondered what it would be like to make them from modern materials - your channel is a dream come true for me👍

I love that you actually make Wootz steel instead of pattern welding something together.
I haven't seen one forged like this one, but this is over the top. Unbelievable carving knife that will be an heirloom. Beautiful artwork!
Thanks 👍😊
what's the black powder in crucible?
@@bradadams4234 graphite
Would you be willing to do a tutorial on your crucible, as well as your additive powders I assume one was Flux. But this makes such beautiful steel id like to try it in my home forge

Спасибо за ролик! Сделал себе такой же, только из автомобильной пружины. Осталось заточить и протравить.
👍🍻
Admirable in every respect, especially the patience needed for the successful completion of a beautiful knife.
Thanks 👍
Another beautiful piece! I want one!! I’ve never used a crucible, but now I’m extremely interested. I bet the balance is very nice!
I would make it about 2inches longer. Just for balance

Hey FZ it's a great idea 💡 make wootz knives and they are beautiful peace of work

The object you were cutting looks like leather, so I presume this blade is for leather work.

at 6:34 I was thinking that "this guy usually does hot cuts, is he going to use an angle grinder? no that would be sacrilege... oh..."
Yes. The blacksmith's chisel broke at the wrong time ...)

Love your videos, I would love to make knives like that, may I ask for a video where you explain how you make the crucible steel? Got plenty of scraps laying around that I'd like to make knives out of
I'll be honest. If you really want to repeat the steel making process, you will need to come yourself ... Through trial and error, you will succeed. There are no step-by-step instructions, many nuances ...
Never seen a blade like that before, can't figure out its purpose either but it's pretty and well made.
Great job!
P.s.: The person who gives unlike in a video like that, definitely has no heart.
👍
What are the additives? Nothing learned here.
Do you have a video of the press you are using in this video please. It looks really good and I want to make on
Thank you
The Kiridashi is really an interesting knife. Slender in the middle and really nice curves. Exactly the opposite of a Kardashian.
Thanks 👍
Мир, труд, май!!!
😁👍🍻
I love ALL your videos! Do you have one of you making the crucible? I'm curious as to how you make them and its recipe.
Superb!
Nothing more to add, just superb!
Thanks 👍
Все сложное менее совершенно чем простое! 👍🏻
👍👌
Great!
beautiful! Great job!👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 😊
Fascinating
Fantastic Kiridashi! And thank you so much for showing how your furnace is set up! What kind of bricks do you use? I've been having trouble finding information on what would stand up to those temperatures. Some say hard brick, some say soft, some recommend 3,200F brick, some say that isn't necessary, haha. Figured I'd ask a professional that does it all the time what they recommend!
Thank you. We use refractory bricks for fireplaces)
@@fz-makingknives3663 Awesome! May I also ask what temperature they're rated for?
1690 degrees Celsius
@@fz-makingknives3663 Wonderful, thank you so much:)

Beautiful work! You have yourself another subscriber LOL. I do have a question what is the black powder that you pour into the crucible with the different metals?
A pleasure to watch this art-making creation. Is this knife available for purchase?

What is the idea behind adding the shavings of medal and the rock (?) into the crucible with the bearings??? is it to add strength or to add contrast to the final product after the etch???
Strength and contrast of the pattern
How much time it takes you to melt ???Great job 😍

Shavings!
Would you mind turning some round stock into shavings just to melt it into something pretty?
We will try somehow.
Very nice look!

Beautiful blade
Astonishing really ! does somebody knows the name of the "black" powder and the crystals added ? and if needed the ratio in mass ?? ( just a fellow b-smith really interested by your work ...) thank for the sharing
graphite and glass
@@fz-makingknives3663 thanks a lot !!! keep posting your creation it's amazing
👍
Carbon and glass. They are used to remove and keep oxygen from the steel as it melts while adding carbon to the metal. In ancient times this was done using stuff like grass, shoots, twigs, and held together with animal fats, greases, and tar (edit) the long plant fibers is why carbon tubes are found in true Damascus steel. It also helps that the iron blooms used to make wootz contained Vanadium which is used even today to enhance the strength of steel.
Beautiful
Wow... and I thought I was watching Shurap's channel.. excellent work! I subscribed to your channel.. looking forward to more knives..

И какую смесь используют для приготовления тигеля?
Beautiful work brother.
Thanks 👍
Is it just me, or does less oxidation form on the surface during forging of your crucible steel than I normally see with homogeneous steels?
There is a rich and poor mixture
@@fz-makingknives3663 What?? Lol
We use a rich gas mixture to heat the workpiece.
@@fz-makingknives3663 Ah, undersood. Thanks.
