@kv1966 duh dude but that's free diving they pretty much over saturate their blood with pure oxygen and breathing exercises thus allowing them to hold their breath stupid long. This is a movie about an extincted shark fighting a mythical squid let's not take it to serious keyboard warrior and the record is only 24 mins
It was only a minute and a half lol
With that much movement it's impossible to hold breath. Your muscles burn all the oxygen. To hold your breath longer you absolutely need to stay calm and make minimal movement
What's so funny about this scene is that they don't ever acknowledge the Kraken at all on the movie.

the reason on whyi think it was shortened is because octopuses are hard to animate, which is why they rigged the fight to be short

While this entire scene is completely impossible from the outset, I couldn't help but find myself thinking there's no way the shockwave from that bomb exploding wouldn't have killed that guy, as explosions underwater have a much bigger kill radius than in air.

Depth charges used against submarines often don't directly hit the sub, just explode close to it and the shockwave does the actual damage. Another good example of this is tsunamis from underwater earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. They create massive shockwaves which propagate out across the ocean as large, destructive waves.

It’s weird to be routing for the Meg, but of course we need some sort of Kaiiqu fight
To be fair though, this isn't just any Meg. This is Haiqi. She may not be as compassionate or loyal as Blue the velociraptor is to Owen in Jurassic World, but there is still SOMETHING there between her and Jiuming, that sets her apart from other Megs.

Despite this fight being very short, it was still a pretty epic Brief Battle, and a really good Underwater fight in a film I’ve seen, I thought and wish this fight was a bit longer but a fight is better than no fight at all
Agreed! While it could have been longer, it's still a quick-but-epic showdown that allows both monsters to briefly gain the upper-hand before Haiqi ultimately wins. While it only lasts 30 seconds, it still has solid CGI, epic music, and awesome cinematography - plus, both monsters feel truly weighty and powerful. That's already far more than any of the awful Asylum movies have given us, and at this point, I'd rank the Meg films as being up there with the Monsterverse as far as giant monster popcorn movies go. Bring on Meg 3!

Do we really know if the Kraken is truly dead though? Because we didn’t see what happened after Haiqi dragged it down, and this thing is based off an Octopus, the bulbous thing on their head, they can survive without it, and if I’m not mistaken, it might regenerate it’s tentacles or it’s head

That shits dead. If you actually saw the movie, Haiqi (the megaladon that killed it) likely went back to finish eating it. Or even based sharks(Great Whites, hammerheads, tigers, etc.) finished it off like the Meg in the first movie.

It's Haiqi the Meg in this battle, isn't it? I hadn't noticed that in the movie until I came to relive the scene and saw the comments.
Well, that Kraken apparently is the same one that killed the nervous boy on the team. And that boy was swimming among octopus hatchlings and the Kraken got mad when it found out. The Kraken was also a female.
So this was a monster girl fight.
I keep seeing comments about the Meg and the Kraken but I’m genuinely giving respect to the guy that went down there and fought it himself. He was about to die though if the Meg didn’t come, but still, that’s good shit 🫡

Well if we look at it at a different point you can see that the kraken wraps it's tentacles around the sharks gills also it pins it down against a big structure, sharks drown when they stop moving, also the kraken would have been under the Meg when it pinned it so it's nowhere near the Meg mouth to inflict that bite. If it's in an open ocean the Meg would win 90% of the time.. but in this scene it's been pinned down so the kraken would have won this battle.

I see a lot of people complaining that this sequence is too short. While I partially agree, the optimist in me is just glad that we got some epic shots of a megaladon taking on a giant octopus, period. There are so many awful low budget Asylum movies that give the monsters less screen time *in an entire movie* than this fight scene alone gives them. As a big fan of giant monster movies, I'm just grateful for that!
Plus, it's not like this is the only monster action we get in the whole film; the whole third act has plenty of high-budget meg and octopus carnage, and the trench sequence earlier in the film is also epic with some really gnarly deaths.
And finally, I *loved* seeing a meg, Haiqi, get a heroic moment. The first film did a great job just having a couple of megs as predators, then this one laid some awesome groundwork for humans and megs (or at least one meg) having some kind of bond and fighting together instead. All we need now is a third movie with Jason Statham riding Haiqi into battle against some other deep-sea threat, and the holy Meg trinity shall be complete!
Bet it will be when Jonas and Haiqi take on some pliosaurs.
Honestly the third should either be against a Giant Crocodile, or a Livyatan, or both.
The movies are coming off of the books and assuming they may make more than 3 movies, it could follow Jonas and his son taking on even more sea monsters.
Shark looked like it was about to tap out early, but no. It wasn't havin' any of that ruckus.

An octopus won't ever be heavier than a large shark, cephalopods are strong but light, no wonder the Kraken was shredded, megs are the apex predator.
