- Sky News host Rowan Dean has slammed Energy Minister Chris Bowen saying he “now thinks he’s god”.
“He now thinks he can make the wind blow permanently,” he said.
Mr Dean’s comments come after Mr Bowen stressed the need for offshore wind for energy.
“He’s misleading the public if he seriously thinks those windmills out there are going to be permanently operating,” Mr Dean said.

I live not far north of Newcastle where we have some constant winds. But we can go weeks without a breeze. Therefore wind turbines would cost more than they return.

In any cost comparison offshore wind is consistently rated as THE most expensive form of generation, exactly as common sense would instinctively guess. Much more expensive than nuclear.

Currently in the USA, the decommissioning of a Nuclear Power Station has to be completed 60 years after the cessation of operations. It can be longer if the process is required to protect Public Health or safety. A 50 year break is required for radioactive decay and 10 years is required to dismantle the facility. This is a very costly exercise. A renewable power station does not require a complicated process such as this for decommissioning.
