You'll experience some of the best Genesis has to offer this way, but if you really want to get your Genesis groove on, grab an emulator and try a whole bunch of games.

You can always tell the Genesis games just by the music.
I had an SNES back in the day and never got a Genesis (if I'd asked for one my parents just would've taken it as me not appreciating the SNES). I was wise enough not to go all Nintendo fanboy, but at the time I thought the Genesis's sounds were too similar and a weak point. Now that I can play all these classics and see how much I missed, I REALLY love the distinctive Genesis soundfonts.
It’s insane how many games sega had that just never really continued after the genesis
But at the same time we got new franchises from it like House of The Dead, Panzer Dragoon, ect.

Yes and less of those Sp special version of games. I mean I would at least like to see Super Pitfall and Prince of Persia get released on the Snes online’s next update since Square Enix won’t put any of their Snes games on the Snes online unless they make money.

They tested Switch Online with some Capcom stuff but so far they haven't been added to the Online service yet. Maybe because some of them are in collections, but i'd rather play the real Street Fighter 2 than a cheap knock off. There's also the Mega Man and Mega Man X games which i think Capcom can at least sacrifice one of those.

I'm happy with these, Alien Storm is one of my all time favs and I've never had the chance to play virtual fighter so I'm looking forward to it.

I'm gonna be sort of a dick to say it's not a very good version of Virtua Fighter 2 (Mostly due to slowness nitpick)
but hey it's an interesting take on the Arcade and Saturn.

@@vancevance6864 Pretty sure that's Virtua Fighter 1 not Virtua Fighter 2 after a quick look.
While Virtua Fighter 1 32x version does plays smoother and I imagine doesn't have input delay.
I will admit Virtua Fighter 2 Genesis sounds, and look better in my opinion.
Still would prefer Sega Saturn port.

Golden Axe 2 was the one I had back in the day, so it holds a special place in my heart.
columns music is burned into my brain, so happy to see it here. reminds me of the times my mom used my wrist as an ash tray while she played and threw beer cans at me.

@@Acejinjo yes. It is similar to beat 'em up similar to Golden Axe like doing combos like the woman range weapon up close which is more effective but varies in battle in each unique character. Also, yeah his comment didn't make sense on what the commentor meant.
Only game I played was Columns, so that's cool to see pop up.

at least SEGA AGES Sonic 1 is on Switch already, although iirc there's also an AGES version of Columns so we might see it soon

I loved playing Columns on my Sega CD arcade classics game, that and streets of Rage 1 were so good!
The sound was actually a bit better in the Sega CD verison

I of course have all these games, since I’m an old man (40) and got to collect them when they came out. That being said, I’m glad Nintendo hasn’t completely forgotten about the Expansion pack.

N64 is still getting games. I think they're taking turns like every other month.
NES,SNES games are unfortunately dead as they dont add new ones as frequently as before, it is sad, Sega Genesis games aren't added monthly neither, but N64 still has a chance hah, though Nintendo had to teal to 007 stuff but they did it in the end

@@macuser7048 yep, but it is weird N64 didn't show more of them: only banjo and 007, maybe the problem is to make agreements with xbox/ ms, as for example perfect dark cannot be added so easy, but it has the same situation with 007
I used to play Columns on my Sega Megadrive, I instantly remember all the music from it lol.
Never played virtual fighter back in the day but happy to try it out. It feels like the genre they have the biggest shortage of in the NSO libraries are fighting games. Im still hoping they add the og mortal kombats sometime but know that likely won’t happen.

Golden Axe II is one of the first games I got when I started retro game collecting over a decade ago. If you haven’t played it yet but have played the first, you are in for a… very similar experience but one still very much worth taking. Oh and Columns is pretty good, too.

That's unlikely to happen. It's more likely that Hasbro would release a stand-alone collection similar to the Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection by Konami. I don't know what publisher Hasbro would use to release it, though.

Really hoping Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 3, Sonic & Knuckles (with Lock-on functionality for Sonic 1-3), Sonic 3D Blast, Streets of Rage 1 and 3, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Ecco: The Tides of Time, and the Genesis version of Earthworm Jim 2 will eventually be added.
Sure would be great to get support for Sega Master System as well as Sega 32X and Sega CD, too.

What is it with the Genesis port of Virtua Fighter 2 that keeps on appearing on these Sega compilations? I'd rather have the 32X port of VF1. Or better yet, a port of VF2 HD that was on XBL/PSN.
Sega need to drop the 16bit version of Virtua fighter from its re release cycle. It made sense at the time for people stuck on their mega drives, and it’s an odd curiosity that can be relived in rom form. People want the model 2 arcade version. Still looks slick and 20 years on it shouldn’t be difficult to rerelease it.
Their console games are great, but Sega was really the boss of 80s and 90s arcade gaming, and we just don’t get enough of that brought back. No one wants subpar 16bit ports in 2022

Never actually seen images or footage from the GEN Virtua Fighter before. Kinda trippy seeing the characters rendered as sprites instead of the blocky/pointy polygons of the arcade games.

Like what? Konami and Capcom got the collections covered. All the Contras, the Castlevanias, the Gradius and Lifeforce games, the Mega Man games, the Street Fighter games, even some Disney stuff are all in collections now. what could they possibly add to NES or SNES?

Old Nintendo games deserve to be eShop games. Look at games like Pokémon Crystal. They have been selling for quite awhile. We are fine with the eShop games having bug fixes.

Maybe just release every game ever on NES SNES and Genesis and 64 instead of drip feeding us things. We just want this service to be the best it can and imagine the value you could boast of all classic console games being available on your service.
The problem with that is people will just bringe every game they want to play within a month and then unsubsribe from the service.
Licensing Issues.
Every first party game sure there is no excuse there but third party and licensed games take work and negotiations. Especially licensed games.

It took me nearly 25 years to realize that Columns had additional modes like head-to-head competitive. I really thought the quick start mode was all there was!
