  • Restoring this old PIPE CUTTER was really instructive for us.It was a challenge without having perfect tools but we did it even it was having some faults.
This pipe cutter was pretty old and damaged. Maybe it was 30 years old or more. It got too rusty and dirty in these years in junkyard and we saw it, we decided to give it a new life and after doing some hardwork and giving some precious time it became like a new tool and the finishing view was really enchanting.
A pipecutter is a type of tool used by plumbers to cut pipe. Besides producing a clean cut, the tool is often a faster, cleaner, and more convenient way of cutting pipe than using a hacksaw, although this depends on the metal of the pipe.

    For Electrolysis
VOLTAGE & CURRENT: 12v , 6 amp (Current also depend on the area of the pieces bigger the area bigger the current but 1mA/cm2 to stay safe).
ELECTROLYTIC SOLUTION : Mix Common Washing Soda (Sodium carbonate Na2CO3) in simple tap water.
Electrolysis produces some flammable gases so take your Electrolysis Tank to some well ventilated area And also take your safety stuff along with you. Stay Safe!

next time use stainless as sacrifice electrode - no rusty mess, just bubbles of oxygen, also it will last hundreds of electrolysis sessions

I've used pipe cutters like these hundreds of times in the early 60s,much better than the Hack Saw,and the cut was always true, I liked your video and I have given it my 5 ☆ rating

Very cool. Made these at a place I worked at decades ago. Rollers and cutting wheels are hardened to 60 rockwell C and black oxide finished. Stem was also black oxide finished. Tubing cutters were zinc cast, pipe cutters iron casting. It's been a long, long time, but I think those iron casting were annealed and it was always a problem keeping them straight.
Really interesting seeing this all these years later.

Greetings from Norway. This restoration was a bautiful done job, but I think the gap for the cutter wheel should have been made narrower rather than putting in that washer aside of the cutting wheel. I am also wondering, what happened to the T-handle? It seemed OK at 1;09 but never seen since.

Hey, great restoration video! I know you are doing it for fun, but you are also showcasing your skills, so good for you! I work on firearms from time to time and there are times I will work on some that are very old and rusty. I would like to see you get some details brushes like I have for removing the rust and crud from the items you work on like the wrench in this video. I use brass, steel, nylon and plastic bristle detail brushes for my firearms work and I'm sure they would work for you too. Most of them look like toothbrushes and some have big bristles on one end and very small detail bristles on the other end. They would really help you clean the "hard to reach" areas, believe me. Keep up the good work!
