My current rotation is the provision 6 and escalante racer. I am not a stability shoe wearer, but tried the provision after I read a review saying that they were a firmer ride than the rivera (which I found WAY too soft for my liking and what I wanted them to be). I've tried almost all of the line and after the racer, the provision 6 is my favorite. It's a fantastic shoe. I will say that my one complaint is that it took me at least a few miles (maybe 7-10) to really get a good heel lock in them. This is only to do with the stiffness of the rear portion of the shoe out of the box, being a stability model. I now have at least 200 miles on them and they still look new. It's really the sleeper in Altra's lineup, even amongst fanboys and girls.

I just received my pair of Rivera 2's. Right choice for me with my narrow feet. I think they are a half size small but a nail trim and ultra thin socks saved me from returning them. Next time I'm going a half size up. I enjoyed my first run. I'm hoping zero drop helps me from getting runners knee.
I don't know if it's just me, but I tend to be more prone to shin splints with really spongy soles. At least between longer periods of inactivity during winter months.

I have one pair of those and wish i could find another in my size. I have two newer pairs of Altra and am thinking about trying Topo now. I got the Escalante 3 and they had to go straight back, way too tight at the arch.
Love my Altra's. My favorite is my Torin's. I have both Torin 5 and 6's. I ran a marathon in my 5's and, yes, the tongue cut into my ankle. I use my Torin's for speed work. I also have the Paradigms. They are my comfort shoe for racking on the slow miles. I do have a par of Riveras but the low stack height and my herniated disc dont like each other so they are my walking around shoes. And.. I just bought a pair of Vanish Carbons. They run a full size small for me so the first pair got returned. Now that i have the correct size they are amazing. They are a pain to get positioned on my feet properly but oncw on they are super comfortable on long fast runs. And they are fast. I do wish they came in the Standard fit.
You may be able to help me then. I only have the Altra Escalante racers. Only been using them 2 months . But with the rain and cold on the way the large holes in this shoe let in mud and too much water . So which one would you recommend for mostly road running that is better in water resistance ? I will be using it on any grass or gravel paths I can find too. Thank you
@@luluah1198 You might want to consider using a trail shoe. In the winter I run in Olympus 4's. The Superior would be lighter. Im not totally sure that they are watee proof. I'll have to look. But they would be better with the mud
Hey, hope you don’t mind me asking as you’ve got a great shoe line up. How would you compare the Torin’s with the Paradigms? Im just transitioning and wondering if the paradigms maybe a bit more forgiving ? I know they are positioned as a mild stability shoe but I’ve seen plenty of people rating them highly for comfort and long miles. Any experience on paradigm 5 versus 6?
@@amandaball7116 I actually have a pair. They have more cushion than the Torins but are heavier. I ran s few long runs in them and ultimately went back to my Torin's. My Paradigms are now my everyday around the shop shoe.
I really like the Altra brand. I have the Monte Blanc and the Paradigm 6. I'm a huge Birkenstock fan so Altra's zero drop foot shaped toe box is very similar to Birkenstock

The pinnacle of comfort for me was the Torin 4 with a padded tongue and the Original (wide) toe box. What's the closest to the Torin 4 in the current range? Keep up the great work! ..Mike
Thanks for the kind words! You can get the Torin 6 in wide so maybe that would help? Otherwise the Lone Peak is the closest you can get to the Original toebox. None of the road shoes have that :(

this is helpful. i was in hoka napali and Cliftons for like 5 years, then switched to altra superior and torin 5's this past year. I'm starting to build miles for some longer races and tried the paradigm 5 or 6 whatever is out now... the shoe felt slippery like I was about to fall off the front so I took it back. I was about to go get another pair of torins but think I'll try the provision
Good overview of the entire line. I just got a pair of Torin 6 for running, to get something more padded than the Xero HFS I was using (which has basically no padding at all). I’d gotten a pair of Lone Peak 6 before for trail running, but I much prefer them for hiking instead.
Gusseting the tongue would isolate use case for people who have foot issues that lead them to Altra. If you have a foot problem you can move the tongue to accommodate that.
I have a Paradigm pair, very confortable due to its wide toe box and bouncy outsole. Which Altras keep the wide toe box, I have heard that some models are reducing that foot shape.
I've heard that too! I've only been using Altras for a year or two so I can't speak to the footshape change over time. I do know they did a revamp with the three shapes they have now to appeal to more people.
Older Altra’s would last, these new ones don’t. Mid-sole flattens but the glue on the rubber starts to peal off.. I bought 2 pairs of Rivers’s both pealed away. I eBay I found this problem with other issues without the shoes that people were selling now I have no problem when they start to peel away put a little glue underneath, but I shouldn’t have to. Their quality of control has went down in the last few years, in my circumstances. But I kind of love them, so I keep buying them crazy I know
They 100% run small. A fill size in my case maybe a half size depending on the foot. Some people are naturally kind of in between sizes, but they definitely run small.
I use the escalante 3, in the same blue. I preferred the Majolica blue of the previous which was much nicer! What would be the trail equivalent in fit? I don’t want to take the escalante onto bridleways and gravel tracks.

I have the Paradigm 6 and have probably done km1000 in them but now it’s winter. I bought the Hoka Cgallenger 6 GTX yesterday but after just 1 days use I don’t think I can keep them. So I’ll have to buy my 6th pair of shoes for the year oh and I’ve had the Olympus boots as I walk a lot and sold them to after just a one time use :( also can you explain the softness in the eco Max vs ego as I think the ego is probably similar to the Hoka and it’s to hard for me. I have both arahi 6 and provision 6 and I like both for running. I prefer the provision 6 for daily trainers but the arahi is more comfortable and probably the better option for standing in all day
They do offer different with, but it’s in the form of different shoes. So if the specific model you tried on was to Miral, a different model would fit you better they just don’t offer the model you tried in a wider option. It confused me at first, but they definitely make wider shoes. You just have to look at a different model under their original category. The standard or slim types are probably what you tried on
Does the carbon feel plush? Started this year with the Rivera 2 and now the torin 6. Love both but also thinking about buying the carbon just for raceday
Thats what Altra claims. Altra claims lots of things. Most of which are not true. Those stack heights for instance. Or zero drop. That Escalante is closer to 30 mm than it is to the claimed 24 mm. The vanish isn't even close to zero drop and anyone can notice it as soon as you put it on. Another thing they claim is foot shape. Yeah, they're not. Every one of those shoes is narrow in the midfoot and not even as wide as a new balance in 2E at the ball of the foot. Try on any of these shoes, I'll bet you $20 that your midfoot will hang off the side on the lateral side. Durability is always suspect with Altra, they're known for falling apart after a month or two. And the Paradigm is maybe the worse so called "running" shoe of all time. No one is running in that shoe. Literally no one runs in that shoe. Zero drop with a heel that sticks out an inch back and no bevel. Try running in that and see what happens. Whoever designs these shoes has mush for brains. Every year that goes by Altra shoes get more narrow and taller. Basically all of these road models in the video are interchangeable for the most part. They're all basically the same shoe for the most part. I will say the Esclante 3 looks really good, which is rare for Altra and it's quite a comfortable little slipper if it can actually fit your foot.
The lone peak 6 (not shown here) appears to me to be slimmer on the toes than others like the provision. Is it only me? I suppose on the datasheet both have the "standard" width, right?

The Altra Lone Peak has the GTX weather proof versions ( standard and mid versions with Goretex)

Can’t decide between Hoka arahi 6 and paradigms/provisions!! Both seems to have equal pros and cons😂 just want a shoe I can stand all day in
