Older Chicago with Terry Kath is seriously great music.
I was thinking the same thing: now Beth should do Terry Kath (who was just a beast) and Robert Lamm...
After Terry's passing, Chicago degraded to AM rock. AM rock was the enemy! I had to let them go.
Both eras are great. Totally different. I feel sorry for people who only like one style of music.
@@stevetanner3019 My push is to see Terry Kath given the recognition he’s due. He was one of the great guitar players of his era. His vocals are great. You assumed I didn’t like the newer stuff. You shouldn’t do that. I have nearly every Chicago album from CTA to the early 90s. I’ve seen them in concert multiple times.
Trifecta of 60's-70's brass bands: Chicago...Blood, Sweet and Tears...Earth, Wind and Fire. Can't go wrong listening to any of them...all outstanding in concert. 'Make me Smile'....😊😊😊
Indeed, his voice WAS Chicago's trademark sound. Thanks for your reaction.
One of my favourite songs from childhood here in Australia. Beautiful track ❤
Peter Cetera - an under-rated vocalist, bassist and lyricist. early Chicago - '69-'78 - the best years with the original members. Still good, with "love ballads" until Cetera left. And Yes- Ms Beth- Chicago was the first rock group that was invited to perform a concert at The Met. (Chicago IV - a 4 LP live album). They were recognized for their song writing talents- they wrote their own musical arrangements - horns and all!
I wouldn't say he is an underrated vocalist. Everyone knows how great a vocalist he is.
So why is he underrated? How come great vocalist that are not at the very top in the music world most always are said to be underrated. Chicago is a world famous band and Peter Certera is certainly and has never been underrated.
Peter Cetera has never been underated by my generation until maybe you just disvovering him... I'm not even sure you're my generation, just giving you the benefit of the doubt...
One of the perfect ballads.
Playing the 12 string guitar while singing that lead is impressive.
I mean… not any more impressive than anybody else playing guitar and singing. Same tuning, same chord shapes…
His jaw issue is what made him so unique I think. I’ve always been totally obsessed with his voice.
A special song from a special time with a beautiful girl I once knew.
Same here! I was young then - a student - in the magical town of Salzburg, Austria. One evening I danced with a beautfiul woman to that song - romantically in love with her. Holding her in my arms was bliss. Sadly, I never saw her again - even though I tried. That song always brings me back to that special, magical moment when your spirit soars.
Peter Cetera's voice can't be duplicated, he's one in a million.
*BUTTERS!*
Please react to Chicago's other vocalists Terry Kath, Bill Champlin, Robert Lamm, and Jason Scheff
"Dialogue"
"Hard Habit To Break"
Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon ("Make Me Smile"/"Color My World")
"Saturday In The Park"
"Beginnings"
"Free"
"Wishing You Were Here"
"Look Away"
"Will You Still Love Me?"
Love Chicago. All the decades. Peter Cetera's solo stuff is great too.
It always sounded like he sang from the back of the throat. Now i know why. Great video Beth
To continue his beloved music career despite that adversity......wow!! To come out with gems like this too, must mean they composed songs to suit his range with a balance of comfort and joy, hat's off Peter 🤠
He found he liked how his voice sounded while healing, so continued to sing that way…not that he couldn’t sing the other way.
One thing that gets overshadowed by ballads such as this is how gritty, and how _political,_ Chicago were in their first years. Pieces such as the suite "It Better End Soon" on _Chicago Transit Authority_ and "A Song for Richard and His Friends" on _Chicago at Carnegie Hall_ make it clear they were ready to start the revolution.
And that's not even to mention how hard they _did_ rock in their early years. Most of their first three albums continue to stand up fifty years later, with Terry Kath's searing guitar leads and Jimmy Pankow and Bobby Lamm's horn charts.
One of the best and last iconic bands
Kansas is another you should check out when you get a chance. "Carry on Wayward Son", "Point of No Return" and/or "Dust in the Wind" are three of their biggest hits
Been to see just about anyone you can name from the 80's....Chicago put on one of the absolute best concerts I've ever seen.
Una gran banda musical como Chicago este tema me gusta mucho bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
I love your reactions. Keep doing it! Congrats.
Did not know that about Cetera. BTW, this was Chicago's first #1!! Peter Cetera still performs this as part of his solo shows albeit, in a lower key. ;)
This song is such a classic
Edit: also thank you for giving such a good explanation of how he sings, super interesting with the jaw
In 1969, Peter Cetera suffered a broken jaw during a brawl with a street gang, which explains why he sings with a clenched jaw as a habit.
I remember my grand father ❤😢
This is Chicago's first #1 single
Actually, it didnt happen when he was a kid. He was a member of Chicago when it happened. He was a Chicago Cubs Baseball fan, at Los Angeles watching the Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers play. He had the long hair, and he got into it with a bunch of Marines(short hair). Thats when he had his jaw broken.
It’s so fascinating to me that in interviews some of the members of Chicago have these gruff voices and personalities he even got his jaw broken but played these gentle love ballads in the 70’s. I get what Bill Hader and Fred Armisen were going for with their Mockumentry episode of Documentary Now about the 70’s soft rock band about Chicago.
Love your cover - proper goosebumps
Peter Cetera blows my mind. It’s so sad to see that he’s basically gone into retirement. I guess old age and that high tenor voice has finally caught up to him. Such a unique powerful voice. This genre and style has become a lost art.
Still waiting to hear a review of Andy Bell from Erasure and Danny Elfman from Oingo Boingo. 🤙🏻
Thanks for reviewing!
The exact sound, musically and vocally, of Chicago has been reproduced
by a group of master musicians/singers that go by the name 'Leonid &
Friends'. They have toured the U.S. numerous times and can be found on
You Tube where they do all the old, great Chicago songs. They are, for the
most part, from Russia, with some members from Ukraine.
There are some vidéos here on YT of him in concert from just a couple years back in Chile; Festival del Mar. Performs this song as well.
@@geoffoakland - Yeah, but I think those days might be done from what I’ve heard. Maybe I’m wrong. Hope not..
This song is one of my all time favs!!!
This is my very favorite Chicago song. Good analysis!
This sounds like a live vocal with backing tracks for tv.
Good luck on the Album Beth!
There was a lot of good music in those years. I always thought this was one of the prettiest songs from any singer or group though.
Fascinating. I never knew that about Peter Cetera! That jaw injury explains so much of his style.
The best band wonderful songs.
I have always loved Chicago. Peter Cetera is so amazing.
One of the best pop songs of all time.
Chicago and Peter Cetera had a lot of good songs. Be sure to check out their later stuff from the 80's.
I have a peculiar fondness for soft rock/AOR/call it what you will; it feels deeply "uncool" somehow, but there's something deeply satisfying about it.
Peter Cetera - one of the greatest voices in music history. You should do more of his stuff.
I was wondering when you would get around to listening to some Chicago here.... Please Ma'am can we have some more!?!?!? LOL
With all due respect, I think you’re focusing too much on his unusual vocal technique and too little on what a truly exceptional singer he is.
Very cool, always dug Chicago! Hey Beth, have you ever contemplated a Bat For Lashes reaction? I would certainly love it! Cheers!
Before the British Invasion, There was an Irish Invasion...Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem played Carnegie Hall in 1963, they played the year before too. Let's see....quite a few songs about whiskey, war, one about being a gigolo, couple about being a lady's man....ummm yeah...might not have been rock but the rafters shook. You show me one rock guitarist who can strum an acoustic guitar like Liam. Back to Chicago...if you were to talk to people who followed them from the start...they hate this period. I like it. Peter really cuts through the mix. He sings with a lot of strain but good things come to those who try.
It's more noticeable in his Tanglewood version of 25 or 6 to 4 live performance. 1972 I think
Ed: Who put this on?
Shaun [crying]: It's on random.
If we're doing 'regional' bands, you MUST dive down the rabbit hole that is Kansas. So much brilliant music besides the popular stuff that everybody knows.👍

Jesus loves you ❤️ please turn to him and repent before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world.
Thank you Beth, I don't have the spotify. Is there any other platforms that I would find it on?
@@L17_8 Jesus is coming back and when he does I will follow him. Until then, I will not pester others to follow him. I will accept that they are living their best lives,
I think 😂😂😂😂😂😂you’re ruining your mom’s song. Remember always remember those first musicians(60’s-70’s) many of them came from Conservatories mainly in Europe 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Really liked their early work. Saw them in concert when they released Chicago V but thought their subsequent work not as strong.
Porque me gusta conbertirte en una bella mujer de diferentes hemociones okey Beth 🌹🌹🌹
One quick note about the band. The band never had or has a LEAD SINGER. Usually there were 3 that alternated depending on who wrote the song and who they and the band selected. This song however was written ang produced by David Foster. He wanted Peter Cetera to become the bands front-man and reform the group around him. Members said no, so he took Cetera and helped him go solo. Chicago Found replacments for him and others over the years. They still excist with 4 original members, though I've heard 2 are retiring due to health reasons.
I just saw an AMAZING live performance of Queens top song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by "Panic At The Disco" It was epic! Wow Brendan. Has anyone seen it?
Baritone singer Terry Kath, Chicago's founding guitar player, was the best singer they had. He could belt out powerful rock and roll, and sing tender ballads. "Introduction" on their debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority will give you his rock prowess. Byblos on Chicago VII will give you his tender ballad sound along with his acoustic and electric guitar mastery.
Nice channel! When you have some time im sure you would enjoy John Parr with the theme for the Man in motion movie. St. Elmo´s fire.
I'd highly recommend giving "Forever Young" by "Alphaville" a try. It was featured in Napoleon Dynamite as a bonus for you if you saw the movie.
Every time I hear this song I hear Butters singing it
This song is a Bossa Nova
Butters Stotch likes this song
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I've tried to sing with Peter but he's two octaves higher than me. I'm not a natural tenor. At karaoke the DJ adjusts the accompanying track down for me. That frees me up to improvise a bit.
If you already know the names of cities, I recommend you
'Myslovitz - For You (Music Video, 1080p Digital Restoration)'
The name of the band comes from the name of the city, close to where I was born - Poland, Uberslessien, one of the best rock bands in the history of Polish music (young music).
Listen to Beth and decide for yourself if it's worth doing something about it.
Thx!
Beth could you comment on Leonid and Friends covering Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4? Thank you for considering. I love learning from your videos.
It appears like Barry Gibbs sings in the way you described.
The Irrepressibles - In This Shirt (live at Haldern Pop Festival 2009) Please react to this!. I have watched so many of your videos to know that you this will be up your alley. You won't regret.
hey Beth, love your content. Please do a react to Onset Music Group - Asibe Happy, they have amazing voices ^^
Check out Leonid & Friend's cover of this....or any of their Chicago covers. If it can be possible to be better than the original, Leonid & Friends has done it.
It appears that he leans his head back to get his mouth open more than depending on his jaw dropping down. I'm not positive it gives him much more in the way of openness, but that's what it appears he is doing - leaning back and to the side slightly.... just a guess...
wasn't CHIACAGO the band from back then where like ALL THE MEMBERS WERE MUSICIAN DOCTERATES or something??? MASTERS DEGREE IN MUSIC STUFF??? one of them.... anyhow...
This song always reminds me of Love's Theme (and 80's golf on tv)
hy
reaction DIMAS SENOPATI from inonesian singer
very good sound👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
Beth, have you done Scorpions yet? I think you'd like Winds of Change by them
Do you know what would be interesting: Analyse a singing ventriloquist, like: *Darci Lynne Farmer* or *Terry Fator.* PLEASE
Can you do All Fucked Up by Amity Affliction please? There an Australian band. It’s about Mental Health
Give it try with x japan - tears
For another location named group, try Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers. They weren't from Bay City, they threw a dart at a map and liked how the name sounded. They're not a Boston or Chicago, but they did have a teenie-bopper appeal in their day.
Don't know if you have done a reaction to Chris Norman / smokie. Be nice to hear what you think about Chris Norman.
Chicago oh no, now I have a nose bleed!
his name is pronounced
sir-tear- rah (cetera)...!
The video is post broken jar.
Fantastic voice. Fantastic "big band", with full instrumentation, to broaden the minds of both the prior generation and also the new (new, then) generation, as to what was possible. The guys who broke his jaw motivated by bigotry and entitlement were early Trump supporters before they had Trump as a cult leader to tell them it was "good" to act that way. Trump was a need they had, but didn't yet know it. Now, that kind of Neanderthal is drooling all over their Dear Leader and out for blood, "standing back and standing by" for him to be in power again, this time as a dictator, in a few months. (Posted May 12, 2024, ahead of the dictatorship that is *surely* coming in 2025)
Peter Cetera
dulquer salmaan jasleen royal song reaction please
He’s a fantastic vocalist, but it could have done with coming down by a semitone or two.
You certainly see something i don't. His mouth opening seems completely normal to the average(head) singer I have followed over the years. I mean he's not an opera singer.
Hello I love your reactions it really made me understand the vocals and appreciate them more I would like you to react to middle eastern music here’s a song from an Arabic legend asmahan sund by the gorgeous abeer Nehme which is a mix between Arabic and western scales I bet you will enjoy analyzing her

Hello..thank you for the reaction..she is amazing..I suggest u to listen to Hamid Hiraad one of the persian singer with a devine wonderfull voice..I recommend you to react to Khoda "koodeta" of his live performances in concert...these links:

"Never Been In Love Before" is a better song, and a better vocal.
listen to "blood sweat and tears"....Spinning wheel......better instrumentally and the lead singer is david clayton thomas.......unreal
BST are great, but Chicago has the best, awesome horn section by far!
No, he was definitely the voice of BST, but no comparison to Chicago’s Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, Robert Lamm!! All lead singers AND awesome harmonies!!
be careful about doing location based musical groups. The Butthole Surfers are out there and technically their name contains a location. (hint: its not the ocean.)
AllI need. Some lame person claiming to be a "Voice coach," posting her fake...dramatic reactions. My reaction: Painfully rolling my eyeballs.
You just bashed a singer that OVERWHELMINGLY knows more about how to sing than your critical self
The first thing I noticed was his mouth barely open. If I did that my coach would yell "Two FIngers"
He said that right after he broke his jaw he had to go out on tour and sing with his jaw still wired. But he did it, and he liked the way his voice sounded so he continues to this day to sing that way. I just watched an interview with him from the 1990s where he talked about that. He was beaten by 4 marines just because he had long hair. His jaw was broken in 3 places and he spent several days in intensive care.
