The ultimate affirmation for anyone who has felt not worthy of love
Amen
kenough
Possitive Kenergy!
I;m a 65 year old woman and I related to this song!
Put that manly hand in mine!
The Kenergy I felt when listening to this song for the first time was more than sublime. The song demonstrates how lonely a Ken can feel under the pressures of the world, but then shows how that once Ken confronts his feelings and shares them with all the other Kens, he is not alone in these thoughts. All the Kens, experiencing the same conflicted isolation as Ken, come together in unity and realize that they are not alone in this cruel world and can rely on each other in a bromantic Kenclusion to the song. It was a truly Kentastic experience and this song will go down in history as one of the Kenfamous songs of an era.

Doesn't seem to matter what I do
I'm always number two
No one knows how hard I tried, oh-oh, I
I have feelings that I can't explain
Drivin' me insane
All my life, been so polite
But I'll sleep alone tonight
'Cause I'm just Ken, anywhere else I'd be a ten
Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?
I'm just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?
I wanna know what's like to love, to be the real thing
Is it a crime? Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings?
And is my moment finally here, or am I dreaming?
I'm no dreamer
Can you feel the Kenergy?
Feels so real, my Kenergy

i was expecting it to be a mediocre movie but this song alone is a 10/10
That's the difference between Barbie movie and Super Mario movie.
Nintendo/Illumination chose the easiest road and made a mediocre and forgettable movie that would be just good enough to make rivers of money.
Barbie, on the other hand, it's an instant classic.
Reminder that Ryan Gosling has a band and is also its lead singer. His voice isn't just for show, he really is a great singer.
He was in the Mickey Mouse Club alongside Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, JC Chasez so you can tell where he comes from judging by his singing
WHAT?! I'm gonna go search for his music. I know that this is the joke song in the movie, but it sounds great.
Wow meanwhile I’m sitting here thinking how rough his voice sounds 🤷♂️. Like not ‘good’ enough to be a stereotypically typical singer, but also too boring to be an interesting voice.
Try watching the Christmas time version he did. He sings with just a mike and none of the pyrotechnics of the scene in the movie. Holds the note on 'Ken' at the end. Sounds good.@@k1anky
@@k1ankyBut if he'd sounded polished and perfect it wouldn't have worked with the storyline - he had to sound kinda cheesy and stiff to be funny. His normal singing voice is much more professional.

@@LukeBowman-oe9iv I have a movie for you. It features Ken living in the Kendom when he and Barbie get into the real world. In the real world Barbie feels empowered and discovers a book on Feminism. "Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings?" is a really good line, you should never have to hide your own emotions to be loved
It's the job of men to be the bedrock of society and not break under pressure.
The world relies on us to do everything even if they don't like to admit it.
I guess that's one way to look at it. I took it more as a critique of when women say "I want an emotional man.", or ask "Why don't you express your feeling more?", but then when he does, they're not interested.
Then that gets me thinking, some men just don't want to get emotional and find ways to express themselves other than with words. So then when someone does try to pry at their emotions, they just become more of a nuisance.
@@strongback6550 but it shouldn't be that way. showing emotion is healthy, suppressing it makes things worse for both men and women
@@strongback6550sure, men do everything😅. You might not feel so much pressure that you're worried about breaking if you admitted that everyone plays a role.
@@strongback6550 Bro definetly didn't watch the movie 💀 Only men expect this, while women expect to be able to participate in it. During history men have always been in power, which creates the feeling of what your comment said. "The world relies on us" except it doesn't. If women were taken seriously, you wouldn't feel that way. Either way, it is mostly women the ones that say men should express their feelings more, being mostly other men those who shame men for crying or feeling anything.

YEAH
@@wardoned2yes instead of chasing after women and imposing themselves on them they should focus on themselves
Film easily could have just made Ken the full on villain but instead they spinned him into a great message for young men everywhere, you don't need to find love straight away in life to be complete, being in love doesn't define you, find out who you are first, develop yourself and become a better person for it, that is truly a message a lot of young men can resonate with I think.
everyone is Kenough
We are Kenough
IMO Ken had a significantly better character arc than Barbie.
ironically the story and message of Ken was way better than that of barbie and the way they treated the men. And I'm sure that is not how the director planned it, seeing how thick they were on the messaging...
@@SolarArmadillobarbie had a good arc too, she was understanding towards the end. And I think that's great thing. And I know she maybe should have apologized but again Ken took all her stuff. So I think she made up to him by giving him affirmation and saying that he is kenough!
For everyone who needs to hear this today:
You are Kenough.
EDIT: Just wanted to share my favorite point that the movie made: what men need in order to truly discover who they are is the support and encouragement of other men; the idea that men need to dominate women to have an identity, or even merely that men require a partner, girlfriend, wife, etc. in order to have any identity at all is a poisonous illusion that not only harms women but cripples men's emotional lives and isolates men from each other. It makes the men that should be our brothers into threats and keeps us apart.
Kens, you all look so cool.

Oh wow that's such a nice analysis! That's absolutely true! The obsession that our societies have on sexual/romantic relationships as something that completely defines someone has put men and women in horrible situations. It shouldn't be a life goal to search for love and validation from someone else. This obsession has put men in situation where they wouldn't feel comfortable sharing a traumatic experience, for example, because "men are always supposed to be in wanting of a relationship", or have their whole sexuality questioned just because they don't want to get involved with someone. I like your analysis. Both men and women, and everyone in between, should be happy and fulfilled with their own selves! Your comment has made me see this video - and the movie - on a whole new light!

I rooted for his struggle. He was truly oppressed in Barbieland.
The whole Ken storyline is such a clever mirror of second wave feminism. It baffles me how so many call this movie anti-men when the Kens’ arcs are literally finding empowerment within each other when they were sidelined and made to feel secondary in their society. A huge message of this movie is that social extremes are inevitably set to oppress everyone - even those whom they typically favor. Stereotypical Barbie literally feels useless in her matriarchal society because she is made to believe that she needs to be perfect in every way to be worth something, but she’s enough just being herself. And guess what?? This goes for Ken too!! True feminism seeks equality between women and men, and this movie does such an amazing job arguing for that.
im glad to find comments like this, the Kens had a surprisingly uplifting arc, some people are truly braindead when it comes to understanding movies lol

But the message there was that she was actually a key figure in everything. That's why I found it assymetrical at the end that Ken is enough as he is (doesn't has to find meaning in others) but Barbie is totally okay getting her identity from being herself in her own way. Unless the message is that your identity should be established by anything than your love towards someone.
I also didn't get why Ken is good as he is when all the jokes were about that he is incompetent because his only identity was "beach", the fur coat expresses this too (hiding the lack of talents by extreme appearance).
"City of stars. Are you shining just for Ken?" ...Great, now I want a mashup of La La Land songs and "I'm just Ken"! 😄
Could do that
@@lukethekuya That would be great!
@@lukethekuya get it done g
That would make my inner musical theatre geek happy
We won the Oscars!!!!! Best song!!!!!
Ken is such a strong example of male empowerment. Don't let yourself be bound by the confines of the women you have a crush on. You are stronger than that. You are KENOUGH on your own.
He went from hopelessly in love with a woman who didn't care enough to realize he was homeless, despite the fact at the start of the film they were dating. To discovering his love of horses and self worth, after showing he was capable of literally taking over the world in a few hours, and then realized that power without his true love (horses) was worthless gave it all away.
@@rrteppoactually they werent dating in the beginning
Dating is a true way streak
Ken may say that they are boyfriend girlfriend
But she doesnt see it that way
Thats just how ken was designed to be
@@FilmReactor Barbie also acknowledges they were dating. During the planning phase in the 3rd act she says she's unsure about dating him again after it's all over because he took over the world.
She just wasn't thinking about him enough to even realize she didn't love him. At the end she even apologized for how she treated him all those years.
It wasn't a healthy relationship, but they both knew it existed.
And vice versa for women.
@@Esmerelda-rm6qj If you mean Barbie then no.
Barbie is the most slave-mentality type character you could ever have. She goes from living a life she was programmed. Into a slave-existence of terror crafted entirely by delusions. All while being weighed down by ridiculous norms (the American custom of arbitrary gynaecology visits as an example).
"Put that manly hand in mine" is an underrated line. 😆 Also love the "Can you feel the Kenergy?" bridge, which feels like something from a late 70s or early 80s hi-NRG song, such as "It's Raining Men" and "She's a Maniac". Also has echoes of "Greased Lightnin'".
💜
KEN you feel... xD
It's one of my favorite lines. It's something that is especially validating when it comes from the most "manly" dude on the screen.
The part at 1:50 also reminded me of Far from over, the 1983 song by Frank Stallone (Sylvester's brother)
ken's costumes too. The visual and audio spectacle of the movie was amazing
"I am ken, and so am I" hits different 🔥🔥
I will literally explode if this song wins best original song and if ryan performs it
Verse 1]
Doesn't seem to matter what I do
I'm always number two
No one knows how hard I tried, oh-oh, I
I have feelings that I can't explain
Drivin' me insane
All my life, been so polite
But I'll sleep alone tonight
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm just Ken
Anywhere else I'd be a ten
Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?
I'm just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?
[Verse 2]
I wanna know what it’s like to love
To be the real thing
Is it a crime? Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings?
And is my moment finally here or am I dreaming?
I'm no dreamer
[Bridge]
Can you feel the Ken-ergy?
Feels so real, my Ken-ergy
Can you feel the Ken-ergy?
Feels so real, my Ken-ergy
[Chorus]
I'm just Ken
Anywhere else I'd be a ten
Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?
I'm just Ken
Where I see love, she sees a friend
What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?
[Outro]
I'm just Ken (And I'm enough)
And I'm great at doing stuff
So, hey, check me out, yeah, I'm just Ken
My name's Ken (And so am I)
Put that manly hand in mine
So, hey, world, check me out, yeah, I'm just Ken
Baby, I'm just Ken
(Nobody else, nobody else)
Thank you 💜🌸
you're a hero.

Loved this performance
GRACIAS!!!!
This song is a certified epic one.
I hate when people say this film is "anti-man." I'm a 33 y.o. dude who constantly struggles with self-esteem and self-love issues, and this song -- as funny as it is -- really resonates with me and makes me feel more optimistic about my existence in general. It's an incredible, sensitive message for anyone, but particularly for men like myself who constantly don't feel 'good enough' compared to other men. "Anti-man" my ass. This is a film everyone needs to watch.
YES! i like the way ken's plot was resolved at the end of the movie. he realized that he had to find his own identity before stumbling into a relationship. he realized he was (k)enough and he didn't need a woman/girlfriend to prove his masculinity to the other kens, and i think thats a good message for young boys to learn from. he was def my favorite character
As a woman, I totally agree with you!
And they still treat the men like dumb idiots who shouldn't be higher up. Also throughout the men they were trashing and making fun of men. While the women were "perfect". Despite all of that, the movie sucked, nothing special although Kens was the most entertaining than Barbie which honestly says something about the movie.
@@PleaseIgnoreSomeofMyComments this is the slight issue I had with the movie how they never really acknowledged the whole thing and even poked fun at it. But at the same time I feel like it’s just a joke at how we’re treating women irl the same way. “one day the Kens of this world will have the same power as women in the real world” yk. But the actual theme of the movie was important, I don’t feel like it was anti-anything, just poking fun at the dynamics in society and something deep ig.
@@Spooderman-sq5uj Even if they we're doing that it's still stupid considering I find no actual reason to be feminist in this modern society, in fact feminism has gotten worse. People keep giving excuses why they treated the Kens like that but overall in todays society women do have power to do things unlike back then. There's a good reason why men have more power considering most of them work in more physical jobs than women. But at least women still have the chance to join these types of jobs and show their strength. Again still, the movie sucked including making fun of the Kens part while the Barbies were perfect angels.
Here after the oscar nomination for best original song.
We keep winning.
Ryan Gosling perfoming in the oscars will be historical
You keep winning what? Ryan got the Oscar, not you.
@@moonamoonzeven in a movie made by women for women men are still the ones winning. We are Kenough

@@PikachuLittle feel like you misunderstood the movie somewhat
''When I realised the Patriarchy wasnt about horses I lost interest almost instantly'' had me laughing and crying at the same time the whole movie was so powerfull
Me too Ken, me too...
Same here Ken. There's much more out there than horses and sports.
Ken is a horse girl
Honestly it was hilarious but I didn’t find it powerful. It’s different for everyone I guess. Also, the real world is merit based. Nobody cares if you are a man or a woman. They hire if you can do a job. Notice that in barbieland nobody does anything really and everything is plastic, e.i sort of eternal. That cannot possibly work irl
@@StavroginNikolay That's false. Real world is connection based. Relationships prevails over all.
Can anyone just talk about how GOOD of a singer Ryan Gosling is??!?!! He gives me chills in “I’m no dreamer” and “baby I’m just Ken” at the end!! Omg i am obsessed with his voice in this song and it’s so original!!! It better win awards this year❤️and I’m DYING to see it performed live✨🫰🏽
Peaches has comptiteon
Yeah, I was not expecting these vocals to be so powerful, but he is absolutely sending it. It's a musical hand reaching out to lift us up together to real self-respect, not the counterfeit machismo that pretends to be confidence
Check out Dead Man´s Bones that´s his band he released a really good Indie Horror album back in like 2009
His range is wild on this movie
@@NupetietHe was the male lead in La La Land, and he sings in a couple of songs, and absolutely delivers. I reccomend listening to City of Stars, cause its a banger
Played at the Oscars! And what a performance :)
The best of the Barbie movie
I love the storytelling present-how the setup for this point in the plot was the Kens being made to feel worthless, as reflected in the early lines. They fight, they dance, but by the end of the song realize the support they hold for each other and how they all can live a life of their own self-confidence without someone to control or be controlled by.
“I’m just Ken and that’s enough. And I’m great at doing stuff. My name’s Ken-And so am I! *PUT THAT MANLY HAND IN MINE!”*
My favorite part of this song is when it says "put that manly hand in mine" because it says that supporting each other isn't weakness but that it's manly to do so

Very addicting song! Ryan Gosing's voice is eargasm!
“My names Ken (and so am I)” just hits so hard. It sounds great, it’s literally true in the context of the movie, and it shows how all men, and honestly a lot of women too, have to deal with the burden of these societal expectations

this song made me realize there wasnt enough showtunes in Barbie
I wish they made this movie more like Across the universe. Enjoyed it immensely nonetheless.
idk i feel like it's already a good ballad
Agreed and I’d buy a ticket.
Well we have a Frozen musical and I'm pretty sure this is campy enough in a good way to deserve a Broadway adaptation.
