Best time of the day to use inhaler?

  • What is the best time to take your inhaler? Morning, afternoon, evening? Does it matter? Some inhalers only require once daily use, while others can be twice daily. Some inhalers have a faster onset of action compared to others. All these details are important and doctors will usually take them into account when giving you your prescription.
As most people are normally most active during the day, the morning is likely to be the best time to use inhalers which are only taken once daily, although there is no strict rule around this. This is because the peak concentration of the active substance in the airways will be in the hours after inhalation and this concentration will then slowly decline throughout the day.
If your inhaler is taken twice daily (i.e. one puff in the morning, one in the evening), this suggests that the maximum effect of the inhaler will last for around 12 hours. There is no sharp cut-off however and in some instances a twice daily inhaler may only be prescribed once daily (if your doctor believes this would be enough in your case).

    Thank you very much.
I am using Trelegy every 9Pm or 12 midnight and I got to feel better after one week. I am a non smoker but live near a volcano, sometimes the sulfuric gas outside is strong so I stay indoors. But when it is at safe levels. I try my best to go outside and walk slowly to get sunshine. I always have a Budesonide / Symbicort just in case of an upcoming Asthma / COPD attack.
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Dr. Thanks for the your great content in regards about medication people use for their asthma or broncospasm, I was diagnosed of having broncospasm more than three weeks ago. I really had a bad seasonal allergies 3 years ago and I never really paid attention to it, now my suspicion was because I never really paid attention to it, it lead to me having a broncospasm. Would you kindly give me an advice if my theory is right?
Now my alergis (allergy doctor) gave this treatment plan.
First I was given, the prednisone injection, then 5x of 50 mg prednisone for 5 days - once per day in the morning along with Symbicort
    - 2x puffs of Symbicort twice per day
    - Rescue inhaler when needed
    - night time
    - montelukast 1x 10 mg before bed for 30 days.
This is really the first time I’ll be on a serious treatment such as this one.
My goal is to come off of it eventually once the treatment is done and switch to more natural options.
I’ve been doing some research and I found out that vitamin d 3, magnesium and k2 can give you good results as far as inflammation and by also eating right.
Looking forward for your feedback doctor.
    God bless.

I use Anoro Ellipta once per day, first thing in the morning. I also use a Flovent inhaler 2x per day; the first about mid morning and the second late at nite but I sometimes forget the second. I'm beginning to wonder why I need to use the second Flovent at all.
