Bead Rolling Sheet Metal Floor Pans (Model A Hot Rod Build Part 3)

  • On this episode of Make It Kustom, I am finishing the floor pan around the transmission tunnel and toe boards. After designing the desired shape, I CNC plasma cut a 10 gauge structure that my sheet metal can be plug welded to. Next, I map out my pattern and transfer it for bead rolling. Once cut and rolled, the panel is bent and fit into place.
To achieve these bead rolled floor panels I will be using:
    (Machinery)
Hypertherm Powermax 65 CNC plasma cutter
    My handmade bead roller
    TIG welder
    Finger brake
    (Techniques)
    TIG welding
    Grinding
    Sanding
If you missed out on Part 2- Making and Installing Front Body Mounts and Toe Board Structure, here is the link below!!

I built myself a CNC router. I added the ability to use it as a plotter by building an accessory attachment that has a pencil and a leaf spring made out of metal pallet strapping.
I see you use the Mach 3 CNC program same as mine. I added an offset when using the pencil attachment because it’s off centre compared to the cutter.
I’m thinking you might have been able to plot out all of your floor pan bead rolling guidelines using your plasma cutter (disabled) as a plotter.
This allows multiple uses of your machine… you could also add a pneumatic drill or small router with an end mill to drill holes.

@@MakeItKustom I loved working with all of the "big 3", but I really did hate trying to adjust the points in a GM/Mopar dizzy. The installation looks cleaner, but the pain of working on them unless you have tilt or swing away front metal is well...a pain. Which is why many of my builds had fiberglass fronts on them. MY last address before I moved to Salmon Arm was in Maple Ridge on 248th st. on the low side from Garibaldi HS. It used to be a Japanese berry farm before it was seized by the government in WWII and sold off.

@@MakeItKustom Holy smokes! Was not expecting your shears to be $600. I could only justify that if I was using them to make a living. Still, really cool shears.

I love your work. Very informative. I downloaded your Bead Roller files, bought the 1/4" plate and other parts. I took it to a CNC plasma shop with the dwg files, the CNC man said he could not open the files because they were too new. Could you export the files as pre 2017 Autocad or as dxf files thanks Jackson

So sorry the website only supports the DWG files that I uploaded. Perhaps you can download a viewer

@@MakeItKustom I got around the problem using an online file conversion. Thanks for your channel and the free files. I have my 1/4" plate all cut out now. I just purchased a used 24" x 24" CNC plasma table. Now I am consumed with learning AutoCAD and CNC software. Thanks for all that you do. Great Job

I have a question on the 1x2 tube substructure. Are you raising the body by the one inch or just the floor. I have a 36 Ford coupe to build and I am looking for all the ideas I can to build a car I will enjoy.
