Honestly Penelope and Colin are way past the courting because they have known each other for so many years. Courting was in that time period the way a couple got to know each other to see if they were compatible. Colin and pen in that sense have courted for years but not in the strict sense of the word Colin got to court without chaperones due to pen being a family friend, boy got no sense of propriety when it comes to pen. Colin honestly was just oblivious to his feelings for pen for a very long time. The kiss just opened his eyes to those feelings. Pen had never been courted or tried to make conversation with other men either so Colin never had to think about what that would mean for his relationship with her. Colin did many things with pen that would be only appropriate if they had been courting. The exchange of letters between them was something that could only be done between ladies and gentlemen that were related or were courting. Colin took many liberties that he would have been obliged to stop if pen had ever had a suitor taking her by the hand and going into a secluded room would be out of the question even if they were courting and he still did that in season two. Colin figured out he had romantic feelings for pen for a long time after he kissed her and was able to actually put a name to his feelings, the problem is that Colin was so clueless about his own feelings that that made it pretty impossible for him to know that she had also been in love with him for many years. his struggle between the kiss and this carriage scene is not knowing if she could ever return his love. He is afraid to confess and lose her friendship all together. But when faced with the realization that he could possibly still lose her to deblin ( if she married deblin they would not be able to continue being friends like they were now it would be totally out of the question in that time period) he just throws caution to the wind and goes for it.

12:00: Yes Benedict is older than Colin. Violet and their Father named the Bridgerton siblings in alphabetical order.
They danced twice in the past. Season 1 when Cressida thought Colin was asking her to dance and purposfully spilled a drink on Pen. In retaliation, he instead asked Penelope to dance and they had fun. The 2nd time was at the end of season 2, right after he exposed Jack Featherington and right before she overheard him talking shit to his boys.
Now, this is a fucking damm great reaction to this sceeeenneeeee, omg, I was squeaking, screaming, giggling and kicking my feet along with you. And thank you for understanding Penelope and her situation, I mean, we all get that she made mistakes, of course, but I see so many damn reactions where my girl is being slaughtered, like, to the point where is ridiculous. The issue with Colin giving her lessons is that he’s an eligible man. Men and women, especially unmarried ones, are not supposed to be alone together (ever) or touch or call each other by their first names or even really write letters unless they’re courting. Penelope and Colin were breaking a lot of rules already but barely anyone noticed bc no one noticed Pen (and they never ended up in Lady Whistledown before this for obvious reasons). But now she had to write about them and all of society knows they’ve been closer than you’re really supposed to be as an unmarried man and woman (which leaves a lot of room for inappropriate things to happen). It’s also just generally embarrassing for Penelope that like she was “unable to find a husband on her own”.

About the issue with the gentleman's club. It's not so much that he owns it that is the problem, it's because he's working there, pouring drinks. If he just managed it and hired some staff to work it, that would be a different story. But I believe he didn't have the money for staff just yet. I assume he's not going to dip into his son's inheritance to get the money, he wanted to earn it himself.
The truth about Colin helping Pen is a scandal for a few small reasons. Yes, it looks bad on both of them to be together so much but not courting. Also, it sends a message out to all of the gentlemen that there is something the matter with Pen, and she can't get a husband without help. It's just a small scandal, which was why Pen was able to re-enter society a week later with little pushback other than some side eyes and snickering. Vs. the first season when the Featheringtons were asked to leave the party when the scandal of almost trapping Colin in marriage with Marina Thompson came out.
