I learned gtr by playing Rush & Fly By Night albums..Over a million times..So great to see AL and hear about his new endeavors..He is so humble and still one of my fav's...Have to admit being 60 I still enjoy the 75-80 stuff the most...I think they were in their prime...Great interview fellas thanks so much

    As a guitar player / songwriter the lovely thing is knowing the fundamentals that you mention and then being creative and designing your own sound / tones, like painting, the tones and effects you use will add your personal colours, shades & textures to your own overall individual sound if that’s how you want to be as a player. There’s the other players like various friends I have who play and have to sound exactly the same as SRV or Hendrix and have exactly the same rig / setup, and want and only really play their tracks and in the same style, usually very good technical players but when it comes to writing your own songs and being individually creative they tend to struggle. But each to their own, as long as you get enjoyment from playing it’s your own personal journey to take.

    Greetings gentlemen! I received 2 t-shirts today (unbelievably, lightning quick shipping! I live in Durham, NC, USA ). Thank you SO much!! By the way, Miss Katherine is the most skillfully, precise shipper I've ever experienced. It was an absolute, exciting "experience" opening my package! Thank YOU Katherine!! Anyway, just wanted to once again remind you how great of a production you all have created. Every aspect. Have been a fan for over four years and have never been let down by anything with "That Pedal Show" name on it!

    Great to have you back guys. Regarding the different format videos, I'm sure you guys are already aware of what I'm about to write but thought I will add it just incase. I follow a few "tech" channels who have recently added different style content such as short bite-sized videos, and there has been dicussion over the effect of this has on "the algorithm". The consensus appeared to be that adding this content to an existing channel could actually reduce recommendations and viewership. As a result these channels have created secondary channels for this content. I also see Rick Beato has done the same adding the Rick Beato 2 channel.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks Kristin, this is really interesting and yes, I'd read a bunch of threads on the subject. To be honest, CZcams's algorithm doesn't really like us anyway, perhaps because we don't make the kind of content that gets the big numbers, or indeed care about chasing those numbers. I think they think we're either weird or just crap. Probably a bit of both. Hahahahaa!

      @@groovehound22 Yes, indeed. I used it for that very thing. I felt like the amp was "strangled" at the volume levels I was playing so I put the master volume in the loop. On the money Mick. You'll know it's right when it sounds great and you can't tell if it ever was digitized.The edgy grating on your brain is missing and it's sweet everywhere. Top notch analog feeding top shelf A->D and D->A is like finding the right pedal combination. And more cost is not always better sound. I find I need to try different equipment to go back to analog from the digital file. Even at 192/24 machines doing the same reconstructing the analog from digital files sound different. Mick, please set up a ‘That Pedal Store’ guitar shop! It would be an Aladdins cave of completely impractical gear, with a minimum play volume of 100dB and all 7-strings would have to be immediately surrendered on the door at entry, but my God would I definitely hop in the car and come down for a day trip to indulge my inner child and play a Strat through a TwoRock at 120dB with a fuzz face! I’m sure it would be impossible to balance the books at the end of the financial year, but by golly I reckon you’d have an outrageously good time for 12 months until the shop went bust!

    I came from the world of playing modelers at home at living room volumes. And Im not much fan of those. I was not able to get the "working" plexi sound until I went the other way and get small simple full valve amp. I can explain how much more satisfying for me is playing something like Fender Champion (the 50s style amp) or some low wattage simple Marshall with some nice drive pedals.
    Night and day is not enough of comparation.
    Small super simple valve amp everyday of the week for me over modelers.

      @@ThatPedalShow Apropos Friday's show, have been experimenting with UNDERdrive and am really looking forward to Thursday night's band prac for the real test. It's promising.
      I'm using a Spaceman Saturn VI for the anti-boost: I really like it for its focus on enhancing the high end sparkliness and presence which is great to have on all the time, but which would go by the wayside at boost levels with the amps I tend to use (Silvertone Twin Twelve, Princeton)
      On the one hand the Saturn has so much headroom it seems like bringing a cannon to a wrestling match, but it does do well at bringing volume under unity so I can have my amp levels set aggressively, pull them back with the Saturn, and when I want to take the amp off the leash, look out!

    "Well, that was crap, but at least it lasted a long time." 🤣❤😳 Enjoyable, as always, leg ends. Nothing of import to share today other than after nearly a year of owning it, I seem to finally be bonding with the Vintera Road Worn '60s Strat. Stiffer strings, another spring on the block and setting pickup heights has changed everything. It doesn't seem as grunty as my Tele with the '64 Pure Vintage pups despite the Vintera supposedly being hotter. The DSL, however, dimed on the Classic Gain channel likes that Strat on the bridge pickup. Quite bright, but not ice-picky. I'm still not overjoyed at the belt-sander relic job on the body, but it sounds good and the neck is delightful.

    I found that dismissal of Amp-In-A-Box pedals to be really short sighted. I’m disappointed. “Just get an AC30”? Sure, sounds great, but that cost 10x what a Wampler Thirysomething costs. Will the AIAB sound and feel 100% like an AC30? No, but even modern AC30’s don’t always sound like AC30’s. For a hobbyist, it’s a good solution to get you in the ballpark. I use a couple AIAB pedals when I play my character-less HRD, and they sound great, and it’s a lot cheaper than buying 3 vintage amps and certainly easier than lugging all that to a gig to get a certain sound I might want for one or two songs. We’d all love to have a room full of amps and cabs but that’s just not achievable for most guitarists. I say, get the pedal and enjoy.

      There are many pedals that could considered “ Amp in a box “ . Cornerstone Gladio , JHS Angry Charlie , the hundreds of Blues breaker clones from the Snouse black box to even the king of tone . Anything trying to emulate an overdriven tube amp or even a clean tube amp can be considered “amp in a box “ ? It’s just a name at the end of the day . If it sounds good and does the job you want it too , then it is good 👍

    Hey fellas! I made a comment last night but I guess it disappeared or didn't come through. On the subject of digital vs analog recording, I think it'd be well worth taking a look at Black Lion Audio (in Chicago) and the mods they do on the UAD interfaces! The word clocking, A/D D/A, and internal preamp mods they offer take the audio quality from the very high standard that UAD is straight to world class. They also make some of the best sounding (in any price class) and super affordable preamps and outboard gear I've ever heard! Might be worth looking into the Apollo mods before you go spending a few grand on preamps, compressors, etc. At the least, the BLA Micro Clock MKIII XB Master Clock is worth it's weight in gold as far as conversion goes! It virtually eliminates "jitter" which essentially is the harshness, phase discrepancies, and digital signal "distortion" that you are probably hearing and unpleased with in playback Mick.
    Cheers!

    Came up with another line. "Did you bump that plug for my amp? You may have broken the ground, I began to feel a tingle when you walked in 😉" Also it's interesting Mic mentions never getting sick. Some new research points to an overactive immune system possibly causing depression in an autoimmune sense, but it's quite a fresh finding though, so a lot more research is needed

    I have yet to hear a moddler i really like.
    I have the Fender Mustang from 2010 stock models with fender eminence speakers.
    It's good until you hear your real amp sitting next to you.
    Mine is 150 watts. i can make it sound good with my marshall, but it's not the same.
    If you haven't turned your real amp on for a day, it's ok.
    I've returned everyone I've bought other than the fender because i can turn it into a cab, and i was lucky again and got it for 150.
    Just buy a real amp.
    Start with an orange or marshall if using humbuckers and like it til you can afford better.

    Hi guys. I have a fender deluxe, UA ox box, and lots of drive pedals on my board. When I use the attenuator at different levels of attenuation, I have to adjust the level knob on all the drive pedals each time. Any idea why that is? (Example, with low levels of attenuation, the pedals get louder so I have to lower the levels because they're so loud, and conversely when high levels of attenuation, I have to run the drive pedals at higher levels to get to unify)

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  Před 3 lety

      Hello! We talked about this in last weeks video. Basically the more you attenuate the amp, the less it is able to offer headroom to any increase in volume from pedals. More attenuation = reduced dynamic range = less headroom. It's really as simple as that! Cheers!

    Didn't get home in the to watch you live :-( but after last Friday's show, I wanted to ask you about the thing you mentioned, where you have a buffered pedal and this prevents treble loss when turning the guitar volume down. I've just swapped the pickups in my Thinline Cabronita from Fender's Fidelitrons to Gretsch Filtertrons. Single volume pot (500K), no treble bleed, but following your advice of plugging into a buffered pedal (Royal Blue Overdrive), it still goes horribly muddy when I turn the guitar volume down (with either pickup). When I do the same with my regular Strats and Teles there's a slight loss of top end, but nothing like as bad as the Filtertrons. Any clues as to what might be the issue? Going into a Blonde Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb (haven't had time to try it in my Blues jr or other valve amps)

    • @onenotesolo256
      @onenotesolo256 Před 3 lety

      If you wanted to try the buffer-on-steroids approach, I highly recommend the 29 Pedals Euna and Oamp. The company recommends that the former is the first thing the guitar sees and the latter goes at the very end of the chain, but they do they job wherever you place them. Will help maintain high fidelity as you roll off the volume with any guitar, but much more than just a normal Gain or FX pedal with a built in buffer.

    • @steveplace4703
      @steveplace4703 Před 3 lety

      @@GraniteSoundtrack Thanks for the suggestions, but I've tried a treble bleed on the Cabronita, but it completely altered the tone and not in a good way. And as for other pedals, I've tried it just using the Royal Blue on its own but still the same....

    Hi! Can u guys recommend an analogman fuzz that sits well in the mix and cleans up nicely with vol roll off? Thanks!

    • @jkdbobby
      @jkdbobby Před 3 lety +1

      Analogman is stand up and will give you a recommendation. They give pretty good descriptions of the transistor options o the site. Analogman Sunface is based on fuzz face circuit and can achieve what you are seeking. Silicon hold up better to changes in temperature so if you play out in the heat, that may be a better pool to choose from. Germanium in general don’t do well in the heat but people prefer them as they can be fuzzier but may not have as good of cleanup as silicon. These are generalizations. I have a germanium sunface and it works well for me but I haven’t gigged since 2015.

    • @velvetsound
      @velvetsound Před 3 lety +1

      I’ve got the Analogman NKT 175 Sunface, same as Dan. Sounds ace and cleans up nicely, although it’s touchy on the volume control. It sounds great on batteries, and just “meh” powered by my power system (sounds worse with the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2, a bit better with the Strymon Zuma, but not as good as 9V batteries). Analogman knows his stuff!
