  • Are you fond of Ceramic and how it's made? The looks of when the artisans shape the clay into a beautiful kitchenware is always so mesmerising.
    In this video, we get to look into the long-established art form from a small city in Kyushuu prefecture- Hita. Hita is a small village with a very few population around 30 minutes away from Oita. In this village, what it is best known for is the very distinctive ceramic style called Onta-Yaki, which is rich in the traditional value.
    In this video, you can see from how they gather the clay and make them into thin powder using hydro-power and slowly turns into a beautiful orange-like clay that turns dark when firing. This traditional arts have been arounf this village for century and it is continue to grows as older generation of this Japanese village passed down their skills to the younger generations.
    This certain ceramic type have a very stand out pattern that can be recognize around Japan and the world, which is a denticle patten throughout the piece. After watching this video, you will be able to know how this traditional pattern is made, and you would be amazed.
