    Wow! We JUST bought a Guinea hog boar to breed our 2 year old sow. But I was going to wait until next year to breed our gilt when she turned 2-ish. I’m SO glad I saw this so I can breed her NOW and not have a sterile girl!!!

      Haha yes go ahead. Ours is just now 2.5 years and she has had a few.

  • @RobertasArtisticAdventures

    We raised a few AGH's too. Heard that Chef's prefer the flavor of the AGH lard to cook with. I love to cook with pig lard, aka bacon grease so raising these again one day will be a priority for me.
    Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and your pets/livestock too. Prayers for blessings on your homestead, Sean and Jamie!

    Thanks for the share of info. You two are great😃. My wife and I are teaching ourselves about pig farming thru people like you...so I have heard, if you soak the whole seeded grain mix....I.e. not pellets or cracked seed...feed in water for 2 or 3 days, you get a fermented feed that the pigs love. If you rotate your pastures at good timing...the land develops better over time because of seeded grasses that will grow..Joel Salatin fan?

      @InTheWoodsHomestead  Před rokem +1

      We have seen the Joel stuff. The fermented feed is pretty good as a general practice with most animals. It really helps with digestion. Also! Sorry this is over a year later. I didn't see this comment until just now.

      Most of the time they want a tummy rub. Haha. So, yes very mild mannered.

    The name guinea hog comes from back in the 1700s every thing exotic was thought to have come from guinea. Like Guinea fowl. It was thought back then they came from Africa Guinea but more probably originated from an Essex hog. By calling them Guinea hogs at the time the people thought they were exotic pigs.

    New to raising America guinea hogs, how much do you feed per day? I've heard a lot about the foraging for their food but very little about how much to feed them if they don't forage

    • @InTheWoodsHomestead
      @InTheWoodsHomestead  Před rokem

      We would usually do twice a day when greenery is spare. But ours forage most of the time. We have a few small buckets full about a quart size.
