I-Team: 'Unacceptable behavior' prompts VA to suspend top cops at Atlanta Medical Center

DECATUR, Ga. - Allegations of "unacceptable behavior" prompted the Veterans Administration to place three top police officers at the Atlanta VA Medical Center on paid suspension.
That behavior includes "allegations of sexual assault and harassment," according to a statement provided to the FOX 5 I-Team from VA Press Secretary Terrence Hayes.

In some states, "suspended without pay" means the officer just loses X days of accrued vacation, and doesn't miss a day of work.

As a veteran, I believed her even before I saw the entire video. Taxpayers should be outraged by the things that get swept under the rug by the VA. This Atlanta VA needs a major overhaul of senior leadership if the veterans are to get the help they deserve. I’m sure this unprofessionalism is one of many things taking place there.

I, hear you! As a veteran myself, I'm fortunate that the V.A. I go to in Syracuse, N.Y. is outstanding, for the most part. However, back in the early 80's when l first started going there it was f--ked up.🇺🇲

Unfortunately, the VA has changed out that staff 4 times in 12 years. Bumper sticker spotted at the Atlanta VAMC - “VA giving Veterans a second chance to die for their country since 1930”.
It’s likely every VA….my experience w the Nashville VA is different but just as negative and just as apathetic on their part….corrupt people w virtually no way to be fired….
Why with pay? Suspend them without and if nothing is found give them back pay.
I agree with this as long as the investigation is quick and completely fair. But I don’t have a problem with a paid suspension as long as it’s quick and they can’t resign during the investigation if receiving monies..

@@nevyn_karresno they shouldn't. When police arrest someone, like a DUI, people get fired until the blood results come back. There are multiple cases here. In Tennessee, it takes months to get the blood results back and people are without a job because of a mistake by police. Why shouldn't it be the same for cops?

I have had great interactions with doctors and staff at the VA hospital. Security? Not so much. Their behavior ranges from unfriendly to hostile. They RARELY encounter problems. They do not need to treat 99% of the people they encounter like potential threats but they do. Yes, there are some incidents where hostile individuals with mental health conditions cause problems but for every one of those incidents there are 100's of average people just going in for simple tests and treatments.
They treat each other completely different than they treat veterans at the hospitals though. I believe this woman. They hire the most toxic people on earth.

The VA needs to have a major overhaul and VA police and security services. To be honest, all Federal Government security services need to be stabilized. The VA needs to start holding themselves accountable and responsible for doing the best for our veterans, housed or unhoused. They need to ensure they’re all taken care of.

As a veteran who uses the VA i can tell you this is more of norm than the exception for how the VA operates. Just like so many other jobs they are defended by the system. Veterans are removed from the VA and denied access for far less, but their employees are allowed to run rampant.
The EEOC IS NOT WHAT IT COULD PEOPLE 😕. THEY DiD absolutely nothing when I filed a complaint about a termination and I served 20 years in the Army. "He stated I was over qualified ".
They need to change the law and/or policy on suspension. There should be no pay. That way more officers could be hired. Only if the accused is found not guilty they should receive backpay and get their job back.

Note due to CoVid19 many US Veterans Affairs places hired uniform security 🚔 . I'm a G security officer, Florida & a former 085 Security Guard in Pittsburgh PA, 1990s. GS4 post. VA police are armed, sworn. The academy is in North Little Rock AR. Orlando has a huge new 🏥 . They have contract D officers too.
