  • Komal Nishad had organized Yaman Utsav in November 2019. The concept was to have renowned artists showcase their interpretation of Raag Yaman for the first half of their performance and then move on to other raagas. It was a three-day festival where we had Shri Purbayan Chatterjee's performance on the second day. There are four parts to this concert.
Part 1- Raag Yaman Aalap Jod,
    Part 2- Raag Yaman Gad
    Part 3- Raag Gunji Kanada
    Part 4- Raag Mishra Shivranjini.
    Tabla - Shri Yogesh Samsi

The most confused playing of Yaman of all times, seems as though the great vidwan wanted put all his knowledge into the bounds of time and in that process sounded foolishly immature in his exposition. Honestly I'm a fan of Purbayan Chatterjee's technical skills, but he does not have the mentality to really be the torch bearer of Maihar gharana of Baba and Annapurna Devi, and in that sense none of the existing players do have. The only hope that I see is in Abhishek Borkar's Sarod. Anyway now people will bash me up and down, but I had to tell this, having heard this Yaman more than 10 times, learning from it but not liking it even once!

I really never commented on your channel, but you are really doing a great service to Indian Classical Music. Whereas we as learners all go to Subrata Chowdhury's channel for the greatest artists of yesteryears, your channel specifically showcases talents of the present era. And even in these I think the certain class of quality, of both the artistes and also their playing, that a Komal Nishad concert exhibits is quite often unparalleled. I wish to someday see this programme live and to play here would be a wish for a next life. Haha, jokes apart. I really commend and pay my respects to Komal Nishad for their wonderful service to our cultural heritage.

I agree with Debesh. This recital had all possibilities to excel musically , but jarring disproportion ruined them all. He was not out of tune for even a while , but melodies never blossomed into a true Yaman. Notes , despite diamond alike , failed to make a proportionate neckless.
