This afcon was incredible as a South African I didn’t even expect my team to get out of the group. So to see us finish 3rd was really incredible and it has made me more confident that we can qualify for the World Cup.

@@ezraezra2928 as much as corruption in football is a big problem, Qatar won the AFC in 2019 as well. To paraphrase football youtuber Zealand, Qatar are decent in AFC. The real surprise was Jordan beating South Korea to the grand final, and that wasn't corruption.

Because, another funny story, the tournament was supposed to be played last year, but because of the summer being too hot, they moved it to this year, but because all the sponsorship deals had already been signed using the AFCON 2023 name, the tournament was played with the name AFCON 2023 even if it was being played in 2024. Because why not at this point, right?

Big favourites like Japan, South Korea, Morocco, and Senegal aren't making to the Final and even won it. The hosts were scripted to win on different circumstances.
Qatar became the worst World Cup host country in terms of performance without a win in the group stage and failed to replicate the success with Carlos Queiroz, which included a mere disappointing Gold Cup campaign (not counting a shock 1-0 win vs Mexico). But in Asian Cup, with Tintin Marquez (he's a Spaniards, like Felix Sanchez), FIFA-AFC scripted them to win the whole thing once more. A harsh red card for Iran players and 3 penalties by Akram Afif in the Final against Jordan, and that's it. Money is the reason they won, even though Jordan also had its own "robbery" against Iraq, when the Iraqi players was sent off after scoring a goal.
