I am going to be honest on this one. "Iris" is my favorite song of all time and I think the lyrical content demands an emotional connection that I think this cover didn't quite capture. Having said that, Audra keeps getting better as a vocalist and I respect this band's ability to take risks that could lead to a comment like this one.
Have you seen the Breaking Benjamin with Diamante cover? That's the best cover I've heard of this song by far!

Ben's voice was destined for that cover. It's easily my favorite, though F211 have done a very good job.
I have the same thoughts as you...
Sometimes in some of their songs, there was no emotional connection between the song, and the singer.
But overal F211 is always Great...
I think this arrangement kind of transforms the song from one about an angel who gave up heaven for love, into one that sounds like 2 teenagers falling in love: and I love it as much as ever!
What’s more, to pull off such an ambitiously different arrangement, where you essentially have 2 conflicting time signatures that also fit perfectly with each other, is incredibly impressive!!
THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING. I originally clicked thinking I would hear you do a note-by-note cover. I was initially disappointed, but then immediately overjoyed. This is the way to go. Show you doing what you do and let the covers be a starting point. That CZcams money is good, but you have a next step if you want it.
I enjoyed the different take/arrangement on this song. It has been covered so many times that it is refreshing to hear a different interpretation of it.

This is one of my all time favorite songs & i personally like the twist on it otherwise it would feel like any other Iris cover. This way it stands out & also gives us an idea of what the song could have sounded like with an upbeat tempo. Great job as usual you guys! 🙌
That's pretty much what I thought as well. I love the original with its haunting acoustic however this version also works, I like it.
This arrangement is unconventional. I dig it, though I'm not sure how I feel about it in context with the song's lyrics. Guitar and drums absolutely rocking, vocals on point, camera shots amazing. The 2nd verse feels really strong, and the solos RIP!!! I'd give it an F211, OUT OF 10!!! 😃😄

I never thought I would hear "Iris," one of THE major anthems of the late 90s and early 2000s, sound new to me ever again. Goo Goo Dolls was right next to Third Eye Blind as my favorite bands in my high school days, and I grew up near their home town. I love that this isn't just a cover; it's a retelling. I couldn't wait to hear Matthew's version of the guitar solo and I was not disappointed. New riffs at 2:00, then performing the original after was amazing . Thanks so much for this.

It takes a few bars for my addled brain to really get to to connaitre the beat, but once I finally come around and 'get it' it works! Man does it work! We already have the originals, so I hope First to Eleven can continue to feel the freedom and need to turn up the experimentation to that same number. Bravo!

I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go with it arranged as an upbeat tune but it worked really well. You all seemed really in your element throughout. Musicianship was great, vocals and harmony was so good. You guys are awesome!

For clarification: I’m not hating. I enjoyed the rendition, but this is definitely not the best cover out there. Their risk was interesting and bold, but I think they could’ve tried something more fitting? It’s a challenging song and Audra still is an amazing vocalist, the guitar solo was beautiful, and they looked like they were having fun. I’m happy they did it, but I still think there’s something they could’ve done to fit the song better. That’s all :).

I like it but yeah it's a bit weird because the original is mostly in 12/8, so in a triplet feel which is gone here and it isnt so relaxed in the cover as it could be

It's a pretty interesting interpretation especially because they're doing a rock version, when the original is acoustic. I saw goo goo dolls and Train in concert two years ago, and I know all their songs by heart, but I appreciate a new "spice up" to a very popular and overplayed song.

When it comes to storytelling and lyrics Iris has one of the most emotional and powerful lyrics you do not need to reach high and low notes the lyrics alone even if it is just read, it has a powerful feeling behind it.

There are a million Iris covers out there already that sound exactly like the original. I have no idea why so many people were clamoring for F211 to throw yet another one on the pile. I like that they had the confidence to take liberties and turn up the rock energy, and I hope they don’t become risk-averse just because some people insist on adherence to formula.
Yea, Iris is a good song, but I wasn't excited when they announced they would cover it, because I've heard it a million times. Even though it is a bit weird, I was pleasantly surprised.

Thats the thing with covers if i wanted to listen to a version that sounded exactly like the original id just listen to the original. A great cover for me has always been someone who can add their own spin onto it whilst keeping the spirit of the original alive which this nails
There may be a million covers, but there's also wide range of genre differences between them from acoustic to metal, so you can't complain, and then F211 comes up with this disharmonizing composition where the drums are like playing a different song. In my opinion, of course. It just feels wrong.
I know what you mean as far as the formula goes. but thats not even my complaint. If you listen to all their covers, she kind of sounds the same every time. i dont feel like she really shows off her range in many songs. but then she did a couple recently that made me go WOW, THAT is what im looking for! this cover was definitely interesting ✨
