I know some people were upset that it takes them so long to make new chapters, but honestly I’m happier when it takes longer because it means the devs care about how well their game is made. This game is made incredibly well and is a blast to watch

Hes programmed to follow the camera, not the player’s physical body. That way he can still react correctly if you look at him differently but dont move.
At first I wanted more Catnap, but watching catnap literally stalk you (hallucination or not) is very scary, that entire sequence in the houde he was literally there and we couldn't see him. I love that. They put in so much work.
It's a good thing that somehow we didn't see him, because if I had seen him at the beginning, I would have already given up on playing LMFAO

I like to think whenever we hear them scream in Cardboard things it’s the sound of catnap f*cking ending their life
Theres a well-established “rule” of sorts in horror media that you dont show the monster until the climax. Having the creature’s physical appearance and behavior be a mystery, but constantly reminding the audience that something is there, is a lot more terrifying than what chapters 1 and 2 did by revealing the monster to the player at the very start. Catnap being almost completely unseen (aside from a few glimpses) up until the boss battle makes him a terrifying monster.

Pretty sure it's mostly because if he stands up he will not have much of a room around.... And since his arms and legs same in length he can prefer the all four as more stable positioning as well as intimidation
I agree. I thought CatNap’s emaciated appearance was due to not eating well after the Hour of Joy. But considering he looks less starved and more stretched when he stands on two legs, I figured that, like with DogDay, CatNap was originally bipedal, like the Smiling Critters are in the cartoon. He can alter his size to a serious degree, possibly he stretched himself that way to be a better hunter?
Yes, but he goes in all four's only when his hunting and, its because his tall so he can't stand up in such narrow places
I think it’s like a dog or cat in real life. Where most CAN stand on two legs for a bit, but can’t walk on two legs for long/can’t at all. So he did it for a moment to “pray”, then went back to “normal”.
But I like the idea of him solely doing crap because it freaks people out.
His limbs can extend and retract, so he's definitely doing of his own volition. If he wanted he could retract and walk on two legs like his cartoon version, but I imagine having it extended is more comfortable. It would probably feel weird squeezing your bones into themselves.

This hints to one of the greatest power of the Prototype that they tried so hard to understand: the power of adaptation. It managed to escape at least once, build itself piece by piece, using other toys, it managed to control everything and with the Hour Of Joy escaped and ruled the whole factory.
I wonder how you will be able to defeat him if he just plays with MC it seems. Or maybe he's interested in MC since he defeated so many toys and wants to learn more about him.
Or maybe the mc is the final piece. Because the human skeleton that is in the shrine of the prototype. I also noticed it had a hard hat on the skeleton so that must mean something, and the dialog with rich and stu made me think we were maybe rich or something(idk) so the skeleton with the hard hat means that we were like a builder/worker and were the last part or that whoever the prototype is was a builder/worker, or that he just ate them all.
I don't understand. How can scientist not understand something that was created by themselves?
There is one clear thing to think about this "hour of Joy". We know Ollie is a child, BUT we also know that we came to the factory 10 YEARS LATER. Ollie wouldn't be a child anymore.. Ollie is literally the prototype mimicking the voice of a child

The fact that catnap also follows the camera angle is beyond creepy
It just feels so wrong in a certain way.
A lot of people say catnap didn't really attack us much and the game lacked bc of that, but what If there was no reason for catnap to pursue us much at all since for the most part the actions of the protagonist didn't quite affect the plans of the prototype in the big scheme, after all both him and poppy seems to have a hand into whatever the protagonist is doing and where they go
Plus keeping him unknown and out of sight for most of the game makes him a lot creepier. It adds in a fear of the unknown that mommy and huggy didnt have.
Because, as Ollie says, "he enjoys the hunt". Plus he's a cat.
Stalking prey, wearing them down, and then finally striking is what he wants to do.

If chapter 4 is the final chapter of the game, i feel like its going to take place in the Laboratory, probably deep underground where they experimented on all subjects. If it's true, it's going to be a lot more dark, and have much more horror since it's the prototypes home.

Miss delight is unsettling she was in charge of teaching kids and when the hour of joy happened she switched she to didn’t differentiate between innocent or evil she just wanted to kill everyone
If you get the notes, she and the other teachers were driven insane from isolation and hunger (and presumably a sort of survivial-of-the-fittest among the teachers so that the one who remains was made into a follower. In fact, Miss delight herself wasn't involved in the Hour of Joy at all.

I hope the proto type isn’t just a robot with a skull for a face as everyone is making him out to be. I hope it’s like a classic toy design since poppy says “they’re all disciples of the original” like don’t just make a horrific robot. Please make him a classic puppet looking toy. But then again mommy long legs said he’ll make me part of him. So maybe he’s building a body to break out or something

My brain imagines him as just like those old wooden clown dolls, with a feature that each main toy has. Like the speak in the mouth, large arms and smile, maybe wiggly limbs, etc. and then every toy took a main component from him into their own character.

it's so sad that Kissy Missy is hurt by the Prototype, shes also clearly on edge of everything, but I'm devastated if we loose her, she may have been in the Hour of Joy but that's because shes always on edge or afraid, a theory said that it was the Prototype who attacked her so the player and Poppy would be forced to fight him since Catnap was the last one before we got to the Prototype.
Even in the hour of joy it looked like she was killing mostly the researchers but idk

Fun fact: in the home sweet home if you wonder why our hands disappeared in the red smoke is because the person we are playing as had passed out from the red smoke and was having a violent nightmare just like in the news in the start

1:08 the shrine has me thinking, is there Multiple of each monster because first of all there is two huggys and pugapiller. 2, bunzo was placed way to high up catnap couldn't have been able to reach him. 3, we saw mommy long leg's lower section gets torn up by the shredder but we see her lower section intact on the shrine

I think the smaller toys are the only ones that can have more than one of them, that's why there are 2 huggy wuggies and 3 pugapillars there and also mommy long legs you can see that she is smaller than the one in the 2 game
But there is an arm from mommy long legs that looks pretty life sized to the actual version so maybe the shrine consists of past foes as well as the mini versions of them ?
Catnap can alter his own size, so he presumably grew to place stuff higher up.
I think only the things actually on the shrine are the prototypes body, or that he needed two pugerpillars to show how long he was. Idk.

Some of the cardboard cutouts have dialogue after the screams.
For example, CraftyCorn says "That's MUCH better", implying she used the "red" aka blood.
I’ll be honest, they really did a huge leap in tone for Chapter 3 with the designs being nightmarish and sinister along with Poppy actually having emotions and not to mention the entire plot of The Hour Of Joy along with its really brutal VHS Tapes
Kudos to the devs they are finding some solid ground here despite having a large fanbase of kids that definitely should not be playing the game

Does anyone have thought about those cardboard dialogue are actually kind of horrifying and have some meaning behind it.
Especially dogday one, telling you exactly not to stay here. While Picky piggy one is somehow referencing other smiling critters, indicating he is affected by the prototype. KickinChicken saying "pretty red outside", indicating the red smoke from catnap and had not seen anything like that before, then he is somehow affected or killed with the screaming.

Would make sense as catnap originally made a purple smoke with a lavender scent to make people relax and sleep

I think they definitely all have some meaning behind them but I think its just to add to the lore and creepiness factor of the game. I don't think they actually made cardboard cutouts that scream for kids(although I wouldn't put it past them).
When I heard CraftyCorn diaologue about "hiding more red", I realised that they talking about giving them blood. After screaming there's another dialogue: "That's much better". They used blood for painting.

I think that's a really smart move by the devs because they knew people will start no clipping and see what happened to kissy missy. It's like the the ending part when the prototype hand killed Catnap they did not include any other information on what the actual look of the prototype, just the hands. But, whoever attacked kissy is a much bigger threat. It's either the prototype or something far sinister.

Everyone who thinks the mommy and huggy on the statue are the ones we beat there not if you look they are much smaller than the ones we beat so perhaps the real prototype is similar with the ones we defeated as part of his body but I’m pumped to see what prototype looks like

The Prototypes multiple voices reminds me of the Master from Fallout. If the Prototype is a massive amalgamation of collected toy parts and flesh he could look just as disturbing as the Master as well which would make an awesome reveal

My Poppy Playtime Lore Theory:
Our protagonist is Harley Sawyer or someone important that had something to do with the experiments:
In chapter 2 we go down a slide that brings us to a room. When we turn around we see 4 slides. 3 visible names of the heads of the innovation team and 1 completely purposely covered and ruined with the letters of the name everywhere on the floor. I believe it’s our protagonist’s name. (Still haven’t seen someone try to make a name out of the letters)
In chapter 3 The Hallways with the radio talking about a dead body of a child found outside the premises of the facility in a muffled bag with missing bones, spine and organs is actually what I suspect our protagonists doing before escaping the facility and leaving the bag to be found (because of our guilt) so people could realize what was going on in the facility. Catnap is the only creature with bones and a very visible Spine. He was the kid found in the muffled bag. The place is structured the same as in the infamous horror game ‘Silent Hill PT.’ It’s way to hint to us that this is our protagonist having PTSD going on having guilt trip while hallucinating his actions. The kids pictures are hallucinations of the children our protagonist knew and eventually transformed into toys. The prototype is making us experience the horrors that we created guiding us through the facility with VSH Tapes he purposely placed, using Poppy, and making us undo all our wrong doing making us kill all the toys/horrors we created along the way.
Who and what is the Prototype?:
The Prototype might be an amalgamation of different kids and employees. (Elliot Ludwig too) The same employees they wanted to get rid of. That explains the skeleton with the construction worker’s helmet. Catnap was tasked by the prototype to put Poppy in stasis with the poppy gas to keep her safe during the “Hour of joy” therefore not being able to do anything and listening to all the horrors while under the gas and vividly hallucinating everything. A Horrible Experience as she describes.
We find hung toys in catnap cell, and later on we see him scooping up a small Bunzo Bunny. It was Catnap who hung all the toys around the facility and outside poppy’s room, warning other toys not to get in that room therefore protecting Poppy from the the toys going berserk during the Hour of joy, as the Prototype asked. (He even placed the prototype’s introduction tape outside of her room).
In Chapter 3 we can find some “Baby Cots”:
The baby infants that disappeared got transformed into the small smiling critters that later crawl towards the player just like babies because they never got taught to walk.
Poppy’s Angel:
When Dogday refers to us as “Poppy’s Angel” because Poppy calls us like that, I think she is implying we are the Angel of death. In certain horror stories the Angel of death is attributed to serial killers or Surgeons (Doctors) Just like i suspect our protagonist, Harley Sawyer or a cruel surgeon that took part in the experiments.
At the end of chapter 3, Poppy and the prototype, lead us down to the Laboratories or as someone found out going through cut files, a “Prison” (a sign was found in beta version) she needs us down there “to kill the prototype”. We know the prototype was held in a cell, But how would the prototype still be trapped down there if the vault was sealed shut and we see him roam around the whole facility through all the chapters following us? Very suspicious. I think she and the prototype might be planning to bring us to the laboratories and use our body as a vessel (Just like in FNAF when our body gets scooped and occupied by the amalgamation, the prototype is an amalgamation too and he might be scooping the toys as Mommy Longlegs says to “make me part of him” so he can make everyone finally escape in a human body.) that’s why Poppy says: “we need you”.
The Protagonist’s PTSD:
The Screams we hear from pressings the buttons on the cardboard cutouts, might be flashbacks or some form of ptsd from when the protagonist was experimenting (transforming) the kids into the “smiling critters” while they where still conscious. We know that the gas triggered some memories and flashbacks visually and audible too. that explains why the smiling critters are talking directly to the protagonist. I think since the beginning of the game the cardboards don’t actually work and in reality they all Buzz or glitch like some that we find malfunctioning. The ones we are able to hear is because our PTSD triggers and flashbacks of the children our protagonist directly Experimented on. The Buzz or glitching of some cardboards is because our protagonist didn’t experiment on them and therefore it doesn’t trigger ptsd or direct memories that makes our protagonist hallucinate voices because we didn’t have direct connection with those experiments or children. The cardboard talking directly to us was a big clue.
Kissy Missy’s death and the return of Huggy Wuggy:
In Chapter 3 Kissy Missy turned blue for a good moment when she first catches us before being stopped by Poppy in chapter 3. It was a very weird purposely lighting color change.
I strongly believe that this is Mob Games hinting at us that Kissy was going to get killed by Huggy Wuggy. He’s back, he never died. Huggy has always been stalking us since the beginning of chapter 1. He crawls through vents to peek at the player (most people don’t notice this detail while playing) In chapter 2 you can find his “Furr”and blood next to some vents and walls. In the end of chapter 3 You can clearly hear Huggy’s jumpscare/attack scream. Kissy was not designed to be dangerous as Huggy Wuggy. Huggy was designed to be a Security System, meant to kill and have those sharp teeth. I don’t think kissy can even emit a sound or even open her mouth. It’s a bit far stretched but could it be possible that Kissy’s body is going to be used by a badly injured Huggy, to get revenge against us when we least expect it in the next upcoming chapters? (This would explain Kissy Missy’s suspicious color shift)
Who is Ollie?:
A mysterious and very suspicious character that sometimes refers as “We” for some reason.
All of us think he’s a surviving kid, but the math doesn’t add up, in the present time, when chapter 3 takes place, he should be 18 years old or more. Then why does he sound like a child? The only explanation is that he is a child in a toy’s body as well. He’s been watching us ever since we turned on the power of the facility in chapter 1. Spying on us through the CCTV cameras we see all around the facility, Opening doors and vents for us. Even back when Huggy Wuggy first chases us through the vent, he was closing doors not to get us killed but to make sure we reached poppy.
In Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 poster shows us the hand of the prototype ‘controlling’ Mommy Long Legs, therefore telling us ‘The Prototype Has Control Over Everything’
"That shrine, did it scare you? If you thought that was terrifying just wait until you see the real thing!" Ollie is admitting that he himself has seen the Prototype. (Because he is part of it)
I strongly believe Ollie is a voice/soul part of the amalgamation of the Prototype.
Edit: He might be the “Security System” that Elliot Ludwig, in the first VSH tape in Chapter 1, was referring to. An Artificial Intelligence, AI, or soul of a child) with access to all the security systems of the facilities.

16:44 The fact that Ms.Delight (presumably the one in game) was so insane that when Catnap came back to her after she'd eaten the lther teachers she wanted to know where the kids were so she could kill them too is so disturbing, seeing as how the prototype (and thus the toys listening to him and under his control) we're only supposed to kill staff it shows that she was so far gone that the prototype couldn't even affect her anymore. Which could be why after she's defeated we don't see her getting carted off by the prototype like with every other main defeated enemy that dies.
Catnap's altar is such great foreshadowing. We already know that when a 'toy' dies, their body is taken and they become a part of the Prototype, and here are all the toys compiled together to make a figure. The skeleton probably represents whoever is inside the prototype, the bodies are obviously those he 'absorbs', and possibly this could be a hint at what the prototype looks like(or maybe did look like). There's the human as the 'head', a huge coil in the middle that looks like ribs, and two possible arms - the one limb with the bunny speared onto it looks like the spidery hand we keep seeing.
EDIT: Dogday is so sad. I get that it's "The dogdays are over"... but watching him die was just a small insight into what the hour of joy and last 8 years were like...

See, this game would be SO much scarier if it weren't so dark all the time! If I could SEE CatNap being a freaky weirdo I'd be much more afraid of him. Lighting is so important in these games.

MY COMMENTARY
THE SHRINE
The detail of the catnap plush being stabbed through the mouth at 0:50 is so cool. When in the actual game Catnap ALSO gets stabbed in the mouth by prototype at the end!
There's also dogday being sorta-hanged at 1:25 just as he is in the game but that one seems a little more far-fetched.
Huggy sitting on the edge at 0:24 could represent his death as well, as he fell off the edge in the first chapter because of the player.
In 1:15 Kissy could represent her death as her reaching for poppy as she was going down on the elevator in the 3rd chapter.
Then in 1:27 Mommy Long Legs being all tangled and "stretched" from her death in the shredder, one of her arms noticeably missing.
0:20 this of course could represent the prototype being the all holy, the head of all the other creations. Or it could give a hint to the end of the player perhaps. But the skeletal figure is more of a resemblance to the skinniness of the prototype.
SMILING CREATURES CUTOUTS
I also like how in 27:29 picky piggy describes the other smiling pals/creatures as yummy food. It could be a hinter to picky piggy being the first to be effected by catnap's gas and wanting for others to worship prototype alike him. Picky Piggy begins to target his friends in the order he mentions i suppose, going from roast beef which could be him being got by CatNap. The Kickin' chicken who wanted to finally leave, being targeted by piggy next the elephant who most likely saw piggy's actions and remembered them. Also getting eaten. With the unicorn(30:36), it might be her having a relation with Piggy and being spared until last. Also having a relation with kickin' chicken who wanted to leave. Of course the unicorn refusing to do so. Eventually she also becomes influenced by catnaps gas beginning to grow selfish with her violence. Fighting with Piggy over it, then they brawl it out and murk each other.
With the rest, they were survivors of piggy but downfall to themselves.
Hoppy hopscotch convincing himself to press the backspace button for like 20 seconds at 29:02 (also might just be up for interpretation) same with bobby bearhug at 29:47 and her breakdown. But with the way they both mention the moon it could be Hoppy dying and Bobby having to deal with that, being in love with Hoppy. Either that or they could've been besties! But in the end they went to meet each other in the afterlife instead. That or they could be talking about wanting CatNap to come back, or wanting to be with the old Catnap. No longer having the ability to do so.
And dogday at 30:17 being an obvious reference to his current self in chapter three telling the player to run, meeting his ultimate demise in the end.
Apparently dog days screaming is him being torn in half....
