    I was pleasantly surprised by how bassy the 224ce-Koa deluxe was, when I first played it in person.

    I have a K24ceBE and it is a work of art. Taylor really built a beautiful series of guitars in these Koa guitars. These are gorgeous too.

    I love the bright sound from the 724! I'm hoping to get one in the future! Thanks for the video :)

    I love my Koa 224 dlx! Mine doesn’t sound as brassy only because I have had it 3 years now and they do mellow out some!

    I got a 224 last month and I played almost every Taylor on the wall. The 224’s body and tone made me melt. I’ve wanted a Taylor since I was a kid and now I finally have one. ❤

    I feel that the 224ce has a little bit tighter, and more focused sound. They both sound great.

    Likewise, I liked the 224 better. I think the main difference is the bracing. When I had Martin make me a GP18E in all Koa, I specified that it have forward shifted scalloped X bracing because new Koa has somewhat a weaker bass and it builds-up slowly over the years. Nice comparison.

    I'm too shallow. They both sound great to me, but I really like the aesthetics of the new 724. That might be keeping me from nailing down which tone I prefer. Both sound really good to me.

    Tried out the 724 last week , its incredible , first thing i thought was " wow this sounds like a harpsichord " .

    Taylor’s are a great design. I love the bolt on neck and shim system and truss rod adj access from neck, not body. The guitar is a dream to work on if needed. They are definitely well constructed and engineered .
    Picked up a nos/demo 214kce gloss spruce top for a bit over $700 a couple of years back. Excellent guitar.

    The 724 has a warmer and more refined tone. The 224 is louder but a little brittle. Probably both will sound even better as they age. I have a gs mini koa that is surprisingly rich and bassy. Not sure how so much meaty tone can come from such a small guitar but its amazing.

  • @jameswilliford5478
    @jameswilliford5478 Před rokem +3

    I almost didn't even try out Taylor's because of price and so many people talking about how overrated they are. Really glad I did eventually. I got a great deal on a gs mini-e koa plus and loved it. Good sound from a tiny guitar, and playability is great. I just tried out the 224ce-k dlx this past weekend and ended up buying it. I thought the gs mini being a short scale would still be easier on the hands, but the 224 is a dream to play. Mine doesn't sound brittle like the 724 and 224 in this video. The 224ce-k dlx is definitely beautiful in person and sounds great. I still think my Yamaha ll-ta has everything I've tried beat in sound, but the Taylor 224 is my favorite because it sounds great as well but the playability is excellent. I can't even imagine how the k24ce builders edition would sound and feel.

    There's something special about the 224, even comparing it to the 300 series'. It has a really neat lift in the high-mids, giving it a telecaster-like spank (which is definitely showcased in this video). The low end on it is really pleasant as well (not so much showcased in this video, there's only so much a single SM57 can do). I loved it so much I walked out of a guitar center with one out of the blue two weeks ago and I've been playing it every afternoon since. Taylor really hit it our of the park with this one

    Love the videos fellas. The 724 sounds more harmonically rich and open to my ears.
    I was wondering, did they both have the same strings ? The 224 ‘s didn’t sound quite as fresh as the 724.
    Keep up the great work 👍🎸🎶

    The 724 is brighter than the 224. I chose the 224 because of the better bass and low mids response.

  • @kgwoodward1
    @kgwoodward1 Před 2 lety +7

    I think it would only be fair to also mention that the 724 is nearly twice the cost of the 224. Just sayin', if you're gonna compare them, cost is a big characteristic.

    Since buying my first Taylor I doubt if I'll buy any other brand. Have just bought the 224 ce k dlx for my birthday😂 and Xmas is fast approaching😂. I just love having them.

  • @MultiDreamer1979
    @MultiDreamer1979 Před rokem +1

    I think we all acknowledge that that the 224 is kinda like a standard of Taylor quality and playability many guitarist feel that this sounds a lot more expensive then it really is.although after tax you are still paying 2000 dollars for it.that been said anytime Taylor makes a guitar they make sure it is the best it can ever be and you see that true the complete range!

  • @woodwindrain5020
    @woodwindrain5020 Před 2 lety +10

    The playing is great as always, but the sound of both of 'em sounds too thinny , lack of bass, even the mids are lacking. The 714/712ce Lutz/ rosewood combo sounds much much better.

    • @mikepruzensky1812
      @mikepruzensky1812 Před 2 lety +4

      This is definitely due to the mic/mic placement/room. When it's in your lap, the 224 has a distinct low-mid VOOM to it, and is bassier than most acoustics I've tried. I love it!

  • @Yas_
    @Yas_ Před rokem

    Oh how I really love ¨midlevel¨ guitars... for me any ¨highlevel¨ guitar just do not sound as they should (depending on what you are looking for) but I am more convinced now that 224ce K DLX is my guitar!!!!

  • @DJWRailroad
    @DJWRailroad Před 2 lety +5

    There is a diff between "layered" and "laminate." Layered uses actual, all wood (e.g. in this case, all Koa wood on the 324). Laminate implies a composite substrate possibly with wood laminated to that composite substrate.

  • @MackDaddyVic
    @MackDaddyVic Před 5 měsíci +1

    The differences are so minimal. I would happily just buy the 224Kce. P.S. I just bought one about an hour ago 😂

  • @kristoferjandrewjohnson
    @kristoferjandrewjohnson Před rokem +3

    Given the difference in price ( $1800 vs $3500! ) I don't think you're getting that much better of a tone with the 724ce for so much more $$$.

  • @koppins851
    @koppins851 Před 22 dny

    In my opinion the 224 k dlx or the 214 ce k dlx are the best guitars of the taylor line up. the V bracing sucks. there's no need for anything more expensive than the 224/ 214. they are so boomy and wonderful to play

    In my household, there is a 224 dlx Koa. As beautiful as it is, I prefer the 722ce, (slightly smaller than the 724ce), for its 1 3/4" neck width at the nut. It too is beautiful.

  • @mariodriessen9740
    @mariodriessen9740 Před 2 lety +7

    I don't know why, but whenever I hear the sound of a Martin, a Gibson, or a Taylor I notice they can all sound very different, but the Martin will always sound like a Martin, the Gibson will always sound like a Gibson and the Taylor will always sound like a Taylor.
    BUT..., when I hear a Martin, it sounds like it wants to be a guitar.
    When I hear a Gibson, it sounds like it wants to be a piano.
    And when I hear a Taylor, it sounds like it wants to be a harpsichord. And I don't really like the sound of a harpsichord (not all the time anyway).

    I think the Mexican made Koa wins. I just helped one of my friends buying a Taylor guitar, and after trying many guitars, we went with the 224ce-K DLX. Dollar for dollar, it was the best value. The 224ce-K, at $1,900, sounds like a $3,500 guitar (at times better than some expensive models), and really well-balanced. Not boxy, not too trebly, just warm and wonderfully balanced at any volume. It sounded great plugged in. I still like my 814ce, but 224cd-K produces wonderfully warmer sound. And the price is half of 814ce (which is $4,000 these days).

  • @TJ-Dives
    @TJ-Dives Před 3 měsíci

    The price difference is larger than the sound difference. 224ce koa for me.

  • @JasperLoki

    The 224 has a fuller sound. More low end. I’d buy the one that’s cheaper.

  • @ricklachaine5406
    @ricklachaine5406 Před 9 měsíci

    Is the 714 not way more expensive? The 224 still sounds good for the money. Not sure I would pay that much in Canada for a guitar that is not all solid wood however.

    224CE sounds like it has a slightly better bass response and overall sounds about fuller to me. Must be the X brace vs the v brace
