Ok people in this comment section really have no clue what’s going on. Richard was married to Gail and she has two children, Sarah and David. They aren’t Richards kids. Sarah has Bethany with someone who I can’t remember, and in this part, Todd is dating her. Richard did bad things (I think he was a serial killer) and he returned to the Platt’s, which is why they’re all in shock at seeing him again. He kidnaps them all and drives the car into the canal, he is the only one who dies.
