“I’d only taken 40% casualties. Something unheard of in the guard, especially when I’m in command.”
*Zapp Brannigan intensifies*
'Naturally upon sighting the Eldar player, I made him cry. That's my style sir!'
You lost the Emperor's colors sir...and I too have friends in the high lords.
“Being able to Claim victory after 3 defeats, that’s soldiering.”
When I heard about the way this guy transports his army I began to crave his tears like water.
"I looked across and saw a broken man" lol great description! Great story. Well done sir!
@@MordianGlory seriously you are a good story teller, great choice of words, great pacing, great build up. Epic stuff
Every time an Eldar play cries a cherubim gets it’s wings!
Ah, I remember the days of 20% winrate guard. Makes me laugh now adays when people are saying that a 36% winrate makes them shelve their armies and wait for the next edition. I've stuck through the Guard's darkest days, I don't care if the faction has a 0% winrate, the Emperor's true finest will still take the field of battle!
i joined the guard during a 22% winrate. things have only improved! we are his hammer!
Currently lost 2 games ina. Row against world eaters and 1 game against necrons and struggled heavily against two nids
I have more respect for a player that sticks with their faction through nerfs and buffs, than ANY 100% win rate meta chaser. That’s why as a new player I’m sticking with Black Templars as my main for the foreseeable future.
@@themandalore7780Templars are class!
I have dug my grave in this place! I will either triumph or die! No pity! No remorse! No Fear! UNTIL THE END, BROTHERS! -Reclusiarch Grimaldus
If I had a nickel for every time Mordian made an Eldar player cry, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s -weird- badass that it’s happened twice.
@@frogblasttheventcore69 As an Ork player I approve I like to fight dem knife eared gitz
Wife just started playing 40k, funnily enough she liked the look of the harlequins the most and now im stuck painting diamonds forever
Its funny that the eldar player would be so emotional and erratic and the guard player is calculating and cold, even in the face of multiple losses. Very immersive.
“There hasn’t ever been an edition where Eldar were not broken”… 😂 I’m just now remembering how tough 5th edition was for us 😅
Making an overpowered faction man baby cry…
… that’s soldiering
If there is one thing I want, it’s to never end up as a Steve in this hobby.
Sounds to me like steve never learnt the first rule of 40k:
"A game of war hammer is a contract between two players agreeing to have fun"
Hearing about models getting crushed into a take away bin makes my soul hurt >.< even If they are eldar
Yeah that certainly hurts. No model deserves that fate, regardless of what it is and why
Not gunna lie, was expecting him to play as a guardsman.
As a 9th ed recruit who took up Grey Knights, it's both sad and inspirational to hear from someone who played guard in 9th since Grey Knights are where they are now. I am now on a 2 game win streak after 14 losses and I salute you mordian
I did exactly the same, picked up my first army, Grey Knights, right around the end of 9th loved how the faction looked and loved their psykic (rip). I haven't even played my first game yet as i've been too worried about getting stomped into the dirt. Mordian is inspiring me to play for the love of the Faction not for the winrate
... But sir, your name is Aamin Marritza
Literally just watched that DS9 episode two hours before watching this. Wild coincidence.
Like Data in the Star Trek TNG episode Peak Performance, you didn’t beat him, but you busted him up. 👍
I tell you what though, as a rookie Eldar player, I think it's genuinely accelerating my improvement, if I put my units down in the wrong place and send them after the wrong targets, they collapse like wet paper, if I place them right and properly select targets they suddenly start wiping stuff off the table. I haven't won yet but I'm always able to point at something and go "I did that better this time."
You may not have beaten Steve that third time, but you sure as hell humbled him. ""He won't stop rolling sixes!""
Oh boy about to press play/start, a "Tales of a tournament player" is allways a highlight of the week!
I knew it I knew he was going to be votann.
Mordian really is the consumate guard commander. In the first 2 games, the lives of his men were spent wisely and he learned his enemy. That is what the guard is for
My inner dwarf is pleased that you brought fire and mystery to the long ears even if you didn’t able to get the win.
Gul Darheel? DS9 deep cut, I like it.
Such a nail biter of a game. Two great tactical minds in a friendly knife fight with dice. Just play and counter play over and over. Brilliant stuff!
You Have Amazing Skill With Storytelling
Great Context and Hilarious Description
God I love these type of videos from MG! I need MOAR!
Very fun video! Thanks for this as well as I just started doing my part!
Even if the story isn’t true, it’s a stellar story and everything that the guard lives for. I choose to believe it.
I love this video series. Please keep the videos coming if you have any more Interesting stories
I recall this from the tournament report you did in 9th edition. I was so bummed when you explained the 24 points turn 5.
I'm amused as hell he moved onto Votann though
The last time I faced a player this petulent as the one in a story it was against my 11 year old niece in a game of monopoly...
One of the best stories ever - love the twist at the end
I wish there were more players like Steve. For entertainment purposes
God I love your videos! Started watching them last week when I ordered my first 40K army... The Guard!
Damn, i thought this was a reupload. You really have it out for Eldar players!
Although in all seriousness thats pretty epic, you effectively shook the guy so badly he changed teams
"He's counting your guns. Testing your firepower with the lives of his warriors!" Great story, metachasers are so cringe, he deserved it.
save your malice for tau players, make those players cry (just kidding) XD
Plz make more. These videos get me through my shift at work
The way i see it, you got 3 moral victories and broke a man's soul :O
Dont fuck with the Mordian hahah
LETS GOOOO! Been looking forward for another one of these!
Eldar broke before the Imperial guard did.
He probably stamped on the remains of the shoddy Harlequins in the carpark outside - hence not seeing them again... haha
I hope he at some point gave up on the hobby and fucked off forever
But then he would probably go and play multiplayer games with fucking cheats so he can beat off while shooting 12 year olds through walls across the map
Epic story! And very well told.
this is why i love this game, fluff aside it provides learning opportunities and strategy fine tuning.
I love these videos. Can't believe peeps are like this (very limited tournament experience to be fair)
Some of the most enjoyable games I have played, I have lost!
This guy literally sounds like that Emperor’s children guy I told you all about
Especially the way he stores and paints models
I'm just waiting to hear about you watering the jungles of Bolt Action with your opponent's Army's blood, with your Infamous IJA w/Bamboo Spear Fighters!
I feel like if you start crying mid game the score doesnt matter it should be an immediate game loss.
To toot my own horn, I play Grey Knights in 9th and never lost to Harlequins. I just happened to play a faction that had enough 1 wound mass shooting, strong melee and psychic. Also the teleport shenanigans to match their insane movement speed. Theres always a bigger fish.
i have the feeling that Guard is th hardcounter for not elder but elderplayers. Recently blasted a Avatar of Khain with just a Rogal Dorn. Lets say my opponent was mad. ;)
Tim would be such a great commissar, sending in wave after wave of guardsmen to their deaths just to learn more about his enemies. o7
How good would it have been if you noticed an unpainted model and Steve losing the 10 bonus points for having a painted army tipped the game! 🤣🤣
The most gigachad guard thing i ever heard
You did far better than winning the war, you destroyed your opponent's ego.
Now you just need to make the other eldar factions cry to complete the set
Do you think the Steve's of the world ever watch these videos, and go "omg, he's talking about me!?"
Once had a guy play so badly in a tournament that he totally lost his mind and tossed his whole Chaos Army in the trash can. Lucky me, I grabbed most of his models before everyone else jumped in to get what they wanted.😅
The Phoenician's form was already weaving itself anew, but his soul was broken. For no pain, no hurt, and no injury could wound such a being as much as denial of its magnificence.
That was Ancient Mordian's final victory.
Outstanding work Guardsmen, for the Emperor!
I’ve missed these ❤
Was this the harlequin guy you had to give a pep talk? Cuz I remember something that sounded kinda like the last match you described in one of the tournament reports.
Two competitive T'au players threaten you with violence. Two competitive Eldar players break down crying when things don't go their way.
Do we think there's a different player theme for every single army?
I wanna see the anime adaptation of this. One man getting broken upon the might of the guard.
I love these tales!
If Eldar isn't broken, is it even really a new 40k edition?
Gul Darheel LOL 😂
He really had a shonen hero arc.
"Slowly I turned....inch by inch.."
25:57 GO GET' IM BOYS!!!
32:40 SOBBING OPENLY! THANK YOU! Morale Restored!
You rolling those sixes!
I've seen them in Bolt Action!
I MUST BEAK YOU!
GOOD GAME!
HAPPY ENDING!
Tears in my Eyes!
Ah guard my favorite human faction. I remember something similar when someone told my why did I bring sentinels and auto connons I said because it's good for killing bikes and flyers. I didn't play much in 9th. But I did remember one game with a out of auto bolter daka and one commissar that punched a eldar and held the line.
You telling about all those models being destroyed by bad transport was interesting, but do you have any advice for a new player who doesn’t really know how to transport these? I lost several spear tips from my stormvast vindicators even though I used the warhammer transport box
You can use some good towels with a sturdy box. I have seen someone use egg cartons before and it worked for them. If you do use any of these storage methods you will need to be more mindful. How you to store your models.
Can’t wait to watch this! 😂
The Chinese takeaway tub was it for me. Was their no end to this guys sins?
Did you do a battle report summary from this tournament? I feel like I remember hearing this before lol
80+% win rates are scary in any Strategy game , I remember in a Warhammer card game I play (now old) Kharn has bloodthirsty as standard meaning your warlord could act twice a turn so I’d slap a couple temporary damage buffs here and there, equip the Black Blade on turn five then afterwards I’d be using unchained anger to hit for around 15-18 damage. That got out and the meta was swarmed. But then we had The Flaymaster and his active ability was too deal 2 damage but also give the unit (yes even warlords) Can’t Attack. Which ended up shattering the 90+% winrates we were all getting. Good times
This video reminds me of the release of votan, a faction truly representing "broken on release" trend
I think we need to talk about why Eldar players cry...
This war feels in line with the law 😅
What game is in the background, I figured it out I figured it was dark tide but it looks like an older game
I would Love to get this as a Spotify Podcast.
Squad is just too much pain for me vs hell let loose. Do agree that even in hll I seem to have to lead a squad lots to get communication working and I’m not even any good at it!
Mordian's a meanie! Lambast him brothers! Lambast him!
Hehehe....I could tell you the times my Black Leagion beat Eldar Harlequins, Dark Eldar and Sam Hain.....I so miss 3rd Edition got my first state championship back then. Space Wolf's were the only army to really fear, death star army was a real threat.
IMPERIAL JUSTICE
YEEEEEEEEEEYS
And i often consider that i mistreat my army by moving it in shoes boxes on movement trays becouse i had break 2 pikes and 1 hallberd across the years
Huzzah! Hold the line
Really well told mate- just a quick question, was Stu from your story (the nice chap who was a captain) from Orkney (originally Manchester)? I won't say his surname - but I think I know him if that's the case
Salty Steve must be Skint Steve now. Probably threw out his Votann a few weeks into 10th, i hope for his sake he didnt bin his Quins too haha, though saying that running them in an eldar army would still probably be pretty good
Another funny story about salty steve! A good ending and nice to see a move to a different army. Thanks Mordian, stay safe and can't wait for the next video!
This is a good story wow
Nids were right next to the quins in the 80s and they aren’t clowns they are harlequins
4:00 I was a sweatty tournament teen in 5th. Eldar were garbage in 5th since they were 2 codexes out of date.
As a Steven by name alone, I revoke that's Steve's name and from ever more he will be known as Mr Karen.........
Only good Eldar is a Burning Eldar, Get the Heavy Flamers Guardsmen.
Sacrificing a whole army just to learn the enemy is like, the most Imperial Guard thing that I have heard
The foul xenos may slaughter a million of our men. Little do they realize, that was merely the scouting force!
@@arandomlostsoul753SEND IN THE 2ND WAVE!!!!!!
@arandomlostsoul753 just a scouting force? Nay, that was just a mere patrol!
O7 to that!
