I stayed just south and east of there two weeks ago. I was never scared to walk at all hours of the day or night. The entire area was quite vibrant and alive.

Ecuador is not as popular destination as the other countries you mentioned. Also, that area in the video is in decline. (I'm from Quito by the way)
Ecuador doesn’t have a good reputation. Every now and then there’s political unrest and now there’s an “internal war” against 22 drug gangs.
You call that night life? Place looks dead.
Nightlife in Ecuador still hasn’t fully recovered from the coronavirus. Many young people have left the country because of the economic crisis and the security crisis.
Crazy dangerous and I’m Ecuadorian.
