- Every year, RuPaul's Drag Race has us guessing who will take the crown. Most of the time though, you probably already know who the winner will be. Other times, like Season 16, it’s anyone’s game! In this week's video, I'll run through all the regular season finales, and rank them by just how close they were!
I would have put season 15 at the lowest. It was written in the stars that the moment Sasha Cobley entered the workroom she was destined to win
Absolutely. She was one big step ahead of the 3 other finalists, who all had a very equal chance. She was going to win from the beginning, and her track record and finale performances just made it even more obvious.

To me, it was very similar to Sapphira, to be honest.
Both Sasha and Sapphira were revered as these goddesses from the very beginning, while people fell in love with Anetra and Nymphia on the first episode. Throughout the seasons, both Anetra and Nymphia proved they deserved to win, with the support of a lot of fans. The only difference was really just Sasha, the pre-established contender, winning S15, while in S16, they went with the surprising revelation, Nymphia.
@@arctikstorm here’s the thing tho. People were selective in their appreciation for Sapphira which at times didn’t make sense. Like for example, Sapphira isn’t actually a good performer when lipsyncing as shown in the finale…and had she not had 4 wins to Morphines 0, she would’ve gone home on the makeover challenge. While Sasha had one challenge she shouldn’t have won, she was the CLEAR Girl Groups winner, and the win went to Aura. Sapphira’s Presentation win MADE ZERO sense. She wasn’t even the 3rd best. And while you could argue she should’ve won snatch game, none of the other challenges where she was in the top, would she have even been close to deserving of the win. Like this is the problem with hyping up Queens unrealistically, when they don’t win, there’s all this pressure, when in reality. This outcome made the most sense given what has occurred this season.
S16’s final feeling so ambiguous & even having a surprising winner shows just how good production had played this season. Even 2 the very last second, I didn’t think they were crowning Nymphia even tho I believed she deserved winning. I don’t even think Nymphia thought she was winning. A double crowning felt more plausible than Nymphia winning alone - Y’know, until Congeniality was also a double win with Sapphira.
Sapphira was totally forgettable and not unique in the slightest. Nymphia was the only viable winner this season. Only delusional fans of Sapphira could have thought the season was a close call.

@@lukadrazenovic7247my only gripe against Sapphira is why that final lip sync performance. It was her weakest performance. Fangs make no sense. The band slam/ majorette body shaking did not help her at all. It was just lackluster for her because of her performance

It used to be a genuine surprise for most of us who won but now everyone always knows what’s happening and the elimination list before the season even airs. Can’t avoid spoilers anywhere.

I really don’t understand this behavior. I don’t judge anyone for reading spoilers, but you have no social awareness to assume everybody else wants your unprompted knowledge thrown on us as well
Id like to say i hate these spoilers too, but it is for this reason that i typically avoid reading comments sections of episodes. Ruins the engagement factor though but that’s the safest way to stay from it

With Aquaria slipping during the finale, IIRC she actually slipped on one of Asia’s dead butterflies and that was another one of the reasons they gave her the tie

Now way, on S7 even tho both her and Violet were "villains" Ginger had a worst showing and fans really did not like her (but that's like the whole S7 fiasco of production and their storylines)...
And on AS6 she had a not great track record and the only thing she needed to redeem were her runways that still sucked, it was obvious that Rajah and Kylie had an advantage over her.
AS6 could've been her win.

god the way you talk drag race is amazing, you really make it feel like a competition which i feel gets watered down a lot when drag race is talked about
I hate how people discredit Jaida’s win by saying they only didn’t give it to Gigi because of her filming controversy. She is such a deserving winner and won the finale.
Gigi Goode walked in with an Im the winner attitude and was not too kind and showed little kindness towards others that took terrible abuse like Aiden. And I’m just saying Aiden’s drag had the potential to be so sickening. She was a threat to that Brita Hagness and I admire Aiden because she has great potential.
Nobody said that Jaida wasn’t a deserved winner. She is a great queen. But at the time Gigi was the clear front runner. That’s the truth. People often discredit Gigi because she’s white and skinny and had a team behind her but she really performed well on her season
Jada won but for me Gigi was the STAR of the season, the clear winner and did amazing in every department.

No one in S15 was gonna win except Sasha. That’s the least close competition. It was Sasha Colby meet and greet
I don't particularly agree with every placement here but DEFINITELY S16 was closeeee! That's why the finale broke viewing records!!
S6 I had no idea which it was gonna go, Courtney beauty and talent, Adore young with charisma, or Bianca polished and comedic.
My ranking:
16- Season 15 ( i mean it was sasha colby meet and greet)
15- Season 2 ( Even i love raven, i can't lie that Tyra was the hole package and the winner from the start)
14- Season 6 ( call me crazy but bianca devoured the full season and was above Courtney and Adore)
13- Season 12 ( i put this season here for some reasons , 1- the hole ch*rry p*e situation, 2- gigi almost getting disqualified, drag race doesn't crown the type of queen in a row and crystal kinda has a similar style with yvie ( the past winner) so that left us with Jaida)
12- Season 10 :
( I know that aquaria was going to win , like in that moment eureka was having issues with the fandom , asia's butterflies sabotage and kameron having only one win and also having 3 bottoms in a row).
11- Season 8:
( It was between her and kim chi , but bob stole the final and also based on the edit i kinda know that she it was going to take it).
10- Season 13 :
( Even if symone doesn't have the best track record i know she was going to win the moment they announced the lipsync for the crown ( no shade to gottmik and rose , but neither of them are good lipsyncers) and the last person who is kandy muse having 1 win and 3 bottoms).
9- Season 5:
(The whole jinx vs rolaskatox history and track record is the moment that i think jinx was going to win , like i don't think they wanna crown the villans of the story).
8- Season 4:
( I don't think Jaremi was an option for the crown for the most people at that moment , and chad did really well in the first half of the season , but losses momentum in the second half).
7- Season 11
( I mean brooke and yvie were in the top for almost the whole season , so for me they were the clear top 2 , so it would base on the finale lipsync).
6- Season 14:
( Based on the top 5 , i know daya wasn't going to win because she is a returning queen , angeria dominated the first half , but really loses momentum at the second half , bosco had the chocolate candy bar and people weren't happy with that , so that leave us with lady candem and willow pill).
5- Season 1:
( When bebe send ongina home , the only competition that left for bebe was nina , so it would base on the final lipsync).
4- Season 7:
( It could be anyway like violet for the edit , ginger for the track record and pearl because she was fan favorite and wins the poll at that moment).
3- Season 9:
( Many of the people think that it was between shea or trinity , so it would be for gaggier that if they know that sasha would slay the lip sync agaisnt shea and being part of the top 2 with peppermint and wins).
2- Season 16:
( Even if i love nymphia, i was kinda expecting that Sapphira would win the season and also it was pretty close like nymphia has 3 wins and 0 bottoms ,and Sapphira and Plane having 4 wins and 1 bottom. Also honestly based on the edit i would think that they would crown either plane or sapphira, but nymphia really stole that final lipsync).

I mean all the top 3 has 3 challenge wins , but to be more specific, Manila and Raja have the same track record so...).

I agree except for S16 there’s no way Plane would win. She def was strong competition with track record but the people would be in uproar if she won over Nymphia and Sapphira. However I will say she is not only a good tv personality to be kept but she definitely had the skills to stay and wasn’t just kept for her drama
actually for season nine I think that, for the production the top 2 should have been Shea and Sasha. Trinity and Peppermint knew that so Trinity chose Peppermint for the semifinal lipsync.
Maybe thats why trinity lost that lip sync... Because she pissed off production

sasha was the runner up to shea in the eyes of the producers and sasha was the fan favourite (by quite a margin, may i add). thats why trinity chose peppermint, btw. when they found out about the format, trinity and peppermint made a pact that they would choose each other because that was the only way to secure that one of them made to top 2, otherwise, the producers would push shea and sasha as the top 2 (and in that case, i think shea would've won)
In which world there was a possibility that Anetra would win? Love her, but we all knew Sasha would win the minute she entered that workroom.

I always found that so silly, same with Sherry Pie. Not saying their names because of the their actions irl doesn't suddenly erase them from existence. I get just skipping their presence altogether, but that's not the case here

Gotmik and Kim Chi had a similar problem. They were so lost on stage, though Gotmik knew how to walk a runway. And Kim Chi had everything in abundance but nerve.

Season 12 should have been closer to the top. It really was neck and neck between Jaida and Gigi. There’s probably an alternate reality out there where Gigi won. We don’t really know if Gigi was actually disqualified, and given the fact that she was still actually in the finale shows she probably wasn’t lol.
Yeah, she was threatened with disqualification, not actually disqualified. She just had to film her finale again at home.

I think one of the reasons Gigi didn't win is she's a very similar type of queen to Aquaria who won in S10: a young fashion queen with a lot of polish. And unlike other fashion queens like Violet or idk Symone, I could see any of Gigi's S12 looks on Aquaria S10 and vice versa (like Tyra Sanchez in S2 they're both *SO* young they haven't carved out their particular style quite yet.)

She should've won to be honest. She's the OG big girl who reached the finale and shoudve been the first big girl winner. But she's an established Drag queen and very famous now. So it doesn't matter.
Sasha Colby was so obviously going to win that I basically already viewed her as part of the drag race hall of fame, which made Anetra kind of like an honorary winner to me
i wouldnt say nymphia was a suprise lol, she had the power of extreme fan favoritism. like moreso than sharon or valentina, or even anetra. the girls were d riding her since reddit leaks the summer before.
the list is a little iffy in my opinion but this was a great analysis of each season's finalists though!

The first time Camden was ranked in the top was NOT during the Glamazon Prime design challenge. She was in the top during her first episode in the Talent show and also in the top of the Save a Queen acting challenge...???
You're right! My bad on that one. I do think that Camden wasn't really on production's radar as a potential win until the design challenge.
people say S15 wasn't close because they have the gift of hindsight, i mean, coming close to the finale anetra was coming up on sasha and had solidified herself as one of the best lip syncers and was given the 'you were born to do drag' title (before it was considered a curse).

Adore never had a chance at winning, Bianca demolished. Ru just made production film a double crowning to humiliate Courtney Act after Courtney calling out her transphobic statements. Courtney had a much better run and Adore just made to the finale because of all of her charisma, because her performance was very, very basic.
DeLa’s elimination handed Bianca the win.
Yeah honesty it was neck and neck between Bianca and Courtney, but Ru didn’t like her. In a more modern season they would have been hyped up as the two main girls

Ben de la did great all season long, and was eliminated in a design challenge despite being the best at it.....Adore won with a simple white ballerina dress I am 1000% sure she was helped to do.. Bianc was helped many times, I dont think she demolished anything

the fans werent behind Raven because they didnt see Raven as a villain. They were behind Raven just cause she honestly was more charismatic than Tyra, as in, Raven kinda played to the audience and just had a personality that was more featured on the season. In a way Raven was more of the narrator of season 2 than Tyra was.
Racism also played a point in that as well...
I hated Raven, she was a villain and everyone saw that, the way she talked about other queens...

S15, S13 and S3 should be at the complete bottom! we all knew Sasha was going to win as soon as she entered, Symone was so obvious from the start Ru/Prod showed her favoritism since the first ep and Rajah was literally friends with rupaul before going in the season so ofc she was gonna win

Ginger's performance was way more fun and natural. Violet's felt kind of stiff and a little bit awkward, imo
Regarding Sasha Velour, she's one of the few queens who made it to the final without having to lip synch for her life. She was in some group dance numbers, but I don't remember her performing on her own. I had seen quite a few Velour CZcams videos before the season started and knew how creative and surprising she could be, but moat of the crowd had no clue. It turned out to be a big advantage for her to first spring the full Velour on the audience during the finale.

15 was rigged from the jump dude. Everyone knew it the Selene she was named in the cash. Her and Ru and her were friends prior to the show airing. Kinda like her and Raja were friends before the show aired. Lol.
after watching season 4 again with some friends, it was so obvious the one queen was pushed for being alternative. latrice really spilled when she said sh*r0n could walk out in unfinished costumes and get away with it

I really think Nymphia won on that lipsync for the crown. If it hadn't been so clear she won that, I think Saphira would've been crowned. It was so exciting to see on real time!! 💛

I feel like I remember Jaida and Gigi being a lot closer going into the finale. I certainly didn’t go into it thinking it was Gigi’s to lose.
Gigi did amazing and for me the star of the season
S7. Judging by the finale lipsync. Ginger won that by 10 thousand folds. So entertaining and natural. While the other two were just ok. 😅.
In a season filled with acting and comedy Ginger shoudve won and been the first big girl winner US.

let´s be really honest, everything about Season 7 always comes to the fact Katya wasn´t chosen as the winner of the lipsync battle against Kennedy...if Katya made it all the way to Top 3, it would be her even considering she wasn´t at her best back then, but Katya made Season 7 less painful to watch...Violet was (and still is) alternative fashion fetish queen perfection, Ginger is a great entertainer, but Katya was the heart of that season...we now know very well that Pearl only made it to the finale because Ru and the producers expected to rely on the fact Pearl is handsome out of drag, which is disgusting (they kinda did it again with Kameron Michaels and it was even more gross because Kameron is just a muscular guy...they really treat the audience as dumb thirsty gays, and the worst part is: they´re right)

Refusing to name certain queens like they're fucking Voldemort is silly. If you're going to be a content analysis channel basing information on facts, spare us the whole "trigger warning" approach bullshit. Yes, some queens are horrifically problematic, but completely omitting them gives a less-than-complete picture when your entire spiel is just recapping wikipedia entries. Name names and let the people who have an issue with the fact that you were being accurate whine about it in the comments.
I may be misinterpreting this, but I think that was just a continuation of the gag a lot of other DR analyzers do (giving that particular person the Voldemort treatment.)

Y’all, calm down with the comments about season 15. I actually totally get why season 15 was the highest in the “bottom tier” so to say. Yes, Sasha was absolutely the favorite to win, but A LOT of people were supporting Anetra and wanted her to win.
Honestly, All Stars also has many very close finals, AS2, AS5, with AS3 it is different since the 3 real finalists were "Removed" from the competition, Bendela, Shangela and Bebe, setting the best track records of the season.

I think well look back at season 16 and think it was more likely that nymphia would win since in season 15 sasha colby won, someone professional,well rounded and had winner energy all season long. Saphira sort of fit into thay archetype and they wouldnt crown the same kind of queen 2 seasons in a row
Honorable mention is Down under season 2 because wow just love love love Spankie and Hanna just being if Jinkx and Bianca competed together and even though Kween Kong had the worst track record of the three she was still love and something highly needed after… the scarlet mess of the first season.
Just realized that I've literally never disagreed with the winner of the regular US series. I've disagreed with certain All Stars winners, UK winners, other franchises, but never the 16 original seasons. Werk. (Ofc now, considering how problematic Sh*ron N**dles is, I would want her to be decrowned, but it seems like most ppl are aware, and her career is dying)
true. International winners get shaky (Krystal, Vanessa, Lina, Elecktra, Katkat), but the main series usually doesn't disappoint.. (Except for Jimbo, who was pushed with all of production's might..)
I feel like Ru very much follows the public opinion since s4 in the main US series, but has more freedom to be creative in AllStars and UK.

As much as I adore Adore she had no chance of beating Bianca let’s be real. Fan favourite but not the winner of that season. The double crowning was for shits and giggles
nymphia's story line being that she never landed in the bottom 2 is kinda crazy

US allies, the United Nations, A-list celebrities, fashion brands, and the Olympics were all rallying behind one specific person to win. Sapphira, or anyone for that matter, winning against the fan favourite/money maker was as likely as Kandy Muse winning against Symone or Jimbo. Only a fool would think S16’s outcome was surprising.

Season 13 was determined before it started. Symone’ most definitely should have been in the finally but more like 3rd place above Kandy.
Love the video, but some placements are veery sus. Like, S6 and S15 were not close AT ALL. It was pretty obvious who was winning both of those season. In retrospect, S8 was clearly Bob's season, but it felt closer than S15 and S6.

I really thought Nymphia was going to win from the entrance onwards, but when Sapphira won the political challenge which had a 100% winrate(sharon, bob, jaida) I did think Sapphira would take it, so it was the closest for me.
