- Marquita Carter got the surprise of her life when her son, Marquay, asked her to prom to fulfill one of her childhood dreams. Marquita never got a chance to go to prom in high school, so her son made sure they both had a special memory they'll cherish forever.
"I never thought this would happen. I was super excited about it and I was really happy that my son asked me because he’s a good kid. He has a big heart. I was just excited to just experience the whole thing. I felt like a princess, I really did.”

Ok. So this is obviously a loving family and all well-intended, wonderful son, and I get that he wanted to make his mom happy. However... sorry, it just isn't right. There needs to be clear, established boundaries between parents and kids. I feel the same way about things like daddy-daughter dances. Relationships between parents and kids should never be romanticized in any way, even if just in good fun. I am not being uptight, I am speaking from experience. My stepfather was "romantic" with me - not sexual, but messed me up anyway -, and my mother and brother have a super-weird co-dependent boyfriend/girlfriend type relationship - it's creepy and unnatural. Parents are parents, not friends or dates. No one seems to understand this anymore. I feel if the son truly wanted to make his mom's prom dream come true, he could have maybe threw a little prom at home for her, with his dad as her date, some relatives dressed for prom, and had a great time. The fact that the dad helped his own son date his mom... weird, too. I get the heartwarming sentiment behind the video, but nope, just not right. 🤔
I completely agree about the daddy and daughter dances. Ever since I was young, I thought it was a weird (American, of course 🙄) concept. Decades later, I still do.
