- Just afew shots I took at Hemswell back in 1996. Many of these buildings appear from google to be still there. If you have an interest in Airfield Architecture, you may find my 2 books on the subject of use. Just search "RAF Airfield Buildings" on ebay, or contact me direct. Graham Innes

Haunted history very interesting to, I used to deliver there in late 90's and was very atmospheric.. thanks for bringing back the memories 😊
I was here 1952 for 2 yr with Fred Trueman, great time, happy memory"s Barton Block
I had the experience of working at Hemswell about 15 years ago. I love the place & the way the owners have kept in mostly unspoilt and original.
I spent a week at Hemswell back in 1965 while on a gliding course with the Air Cadets at RAF Kirkton in Lindsey. At that time Hemswell was still a bustling Bomber Base while Kirkton in Lindsey had long given up its Fighters for the No22 Gliding School It was a beautiful July week. where on the Monday we were subjected to a Hailstorm on the first day, not a bad Tuesday Wet but got lots of indoor tutorials & a little flying. a visit to another RAF base on Wednesday for an air day display where I watched & was impressed with a De-Haviland Vixen streaking down the runway with the sound barriers building up around it what a magnificent sight. Thursday and Friday were balmy late July weather & just enough time for me to get in enough flying to get my license.
Those were the days. You struggle to find many active military bases these days.
One of the hangars was turned into a cold storage facility, called I think Jet Stream with a Canberra for its logo…no more I am led to believe.
Nice 👌
It's a shame these camps are going to rack & ruin, but most of Hemswell now is a antique centre.
