Therefore most, though they love this song, avoid it. In fact I'm commenting while the video remains on pause.

    Saw the Downy commercial and thought I'm gonna listen to this song. I haven't heard it since I was a child. While listening and reading the lyrics it made me think of my mom. I take care of her now. She is 80 and has dementia. She is forgetting her yesterdays. It makes me so sad. I pray she doesn't forget everything. She had some great times in her life. Here is to all of us who have several years under our belt. I too have had a wonderful life. I pray we can all remember the times of our lives.

    • @DRock6906
      @DRock6906 Před 3 lety +18

      I can relate to you Rachael. I too had a Mother that had Dementia. Sadly she passed away in January from it at the age of 85. It didn't get progressively worse until maybe a year before she passed. I took off of work to take care of her because she needed around the clock care. I have two brothers... One lives in another state and the other one was not well equipped to care for her so it was left up to me. I REFUSED to put her in a nursing home and kept her in her own home. I felt in my heart that she would have passed away quickly if I took her out of her familiar surroundings and placed her in a nursing home. She had a habit of just leaving the house unannounced which was the worst :'-( After that, it was what I liked to call "The Cooking Episodes". She wanted to continue to cook but would leave the food on the burner RUINING food many times. She also would put foreign objects in the microwave causing it to catch on fire one night. Then it was inappropriate attire... She would put on 2 or three sets of clothes and it would take an act of Congress for me to get them off of her. Then it was her ADL's... I had to force her sometimes to take baths because she wouldn't do it on her own anymore. I don't have any sisters so I had to rob her of her dignity bathing her and dressing her. But that was ok. I didn't mind. She stayed clean everyday, I brushed her hair everyday, I cooked for her everyday, and kept her safe from any harm everyday. Her sleeping habits got reversed towards the end too. She would sometimes stay up all night and then sleep all day. She remembered family for the most part right up until the end. She would, however, ask about my Father would had already passed away and her own Mother and Father who had long passed away :'-( Dementia is the cruelest form of torture for a person to go through. I had to watch my Mother turn from a strong, independent woman who worked and took care of a household into a child again. But that's ok. If I had to do it all over again, I would do things exactly the same. When she was able to focus on things, she liked to watch Andy Griffith, Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns, and The Golden Girls :-) She also loved to hear music from the 60's and 70's (Because those songs reminded her of when she was young) and she danced and sang to them :-) I'm a 52 year old man and I feel all alone in the world without my Mom and Dad :'-( I know that sounds funny because I have children and grandchildren. But they don't take the place of my Mom and Dad. I hope God gives you strength to care for your Mother with her ailment and I hope my story helps you in some kind of way. God bless you.

      Is it just me, or did the seventies just have a completely unique atmosphere or feeling to them? Maybe it’s just the fact that I was a child and had less responsibilities and no bills to pay. I don’t know, but personally, I feel that there has been such a major change starting with the eighties. Things have not been the same since. Of course, many of those changes have been good, I’m just saying that to me, that particular decade ( the 70’s) just seemed to have a seriously unique vibe all it’s own.

    Downey's is using this song in their new commercial. I just love it. All of a sudden I'm a kid again watching the movie of the week w/ my family. When those old Kodak commercials came on I think even my brothers liked it... everyone would be quiet till it was over!

    Even when this song came out in the 70s and I was just a little kid, I felt such sorrow and nostalgia all at once. I remember riding in the car with my grandparents and this playing and I got so sad. And now of course they are both gone, but this song told me all the way back then that this all goes by so fast

    I wasn't a Paul Anka fan but I heard this song on the radio and frantically I was trying to find out who sang it. It took a couple days because the disc jockey wouldn't say who it was like I should know. Then I heard it again and this time the disc jockey said it was Mr.Paul Anka. I ran out to the record store and bought it and played it over and over. Of this song I'm a big Paul Anka fan.

      robert kuzich Just hang in there. Wait until you are 62! The kids are gone, your friends are disappearing, the world is overwhelming. Try to avoid thinking about the bad events in your life. Reinvent yourself. You are not alone. Keep going and surround yourself with people you like!

      robert kuzich True Robert. Holding on only holds you back and down. Look at this as a new part of your life. I turned 50, three years ago, and it is not that bad. Things are different at this age compared to the younger years, but life is still good and you adjust and make new memories. This part of your life may be better than the past 50 years. You are still fairly young. Enjoy life !
