STUFF… my experience has been this… I spent my 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s scrounging, collecting, thrifting, saving and accumulating STUFF. Now that I am in my late 50’s I look around at all this STUFF and it is STUFFOCATING. Immy, you have no idea how much inspo I am getting from the determination and energy that you are directing towards decluttering your life. You’re my decluttering role model… Thank-you for this!! 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary
From someone who used to have more clothes than space and now can fit my whole wardrobe in a small suitcase, if your umming about a item the answer is a no. If you feel a bit uncomfortable (the first black slimming dress) then the answer is no as when you look at what to wear each day 99% of the time that dress will not get worn because of how you feel in it rather than because you like it. The blue even dress, you said you love it but it's a bit big, if that's the only issue getting something tailored is easy and I often found I wear a item more ☺️
Hello friends! Welcome to the beginning of my decluttering series, where I'll be sharing my personal journey as well as tips to declutter as sustainably as possible. As well as ways to prevent build up of stuff happening again. If we constantly buy and declutter buy and declutter then we're defeating the point! Hope you enjoy this first episode xx
Where will you sell your clothes? You have some really pretty things there 🙈
Remember not to put too much pressure on yourself! We end up accumulating stuff not just from buying things, but from people giving us things as well. Stuff seems to magically appear, no matter how much you refuse items!
This year, my husband and I are going to tell everyone that we don't want Christmas presents. We'll see how it goes
Words cannot express the incredible admiration that I have for anybody who can “declutter everything”. Immy, you’re my heroine… this is coming from the gal who envisions herself decluttering her sewing room, but knows that she has an active imagination and an interminable sense of optimism. Love these Premieres… gonna get me a cup of ☕️. Excited for the Live Chat… WHOOP! WHOOP! 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🍁
Going through everything you own can be a very daunting task, but you've got such a great attitude about it all, as you are focused on the overall goal at all times. I had a similar situation back in my mid 20s when I made a decision to move all the way across the country to be with my partner. I had to lay everything I owned out and get rid of almost all of it. Some of it was difficult to part with, but as I researched places to donate to and sell on, it began to feel very therapeutic and transformative. It was a way to physically AND mentally prepare for a very big transitional point in my life that I knew was right, but was still a bit scary. I found so many great opportunities to donate specific types of items to specific places that could give them a great new life, which helped a great deal. And I was able to sell a lot more than I had expected to be able to. I know it's a lot, but you'll get there!
I’m not planning on moving, and I have way too much stuff… but regardless of this, I really enjoyed reading your comment. I loved the way in which you describe how a completely daunting and time consuming task became an unexpected fulfilling and rewarding experience. You sound like you’re a really thoughtful person. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Have a great upcoming week 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary
I love this laid-back style of video where it feels like we’re hanging out with you. I always feel a bit more motivated after watching. Good luck with the rest of the decluttering!
I love a premiere, there is something about waiting with others to watch a youtube video (: And there is also something about not being able to skip, makes you really wonder if you actually like a video. No worries, I am still here and watching 🖤
aw thank you so much for being here, I honestly LOVE the premieres so much. It feels like a really wonderful and unique opportunity to be able to chat to people and get your live feedback! Honestly it makes being on youtube and having this community feel 100x more special xx
for the bra pads, I take them out and add them to hangers to add more cushioning for my clothes :) just fold it over the end of a hanger and sew in place!
A good piece of advice I picked from watching decluttering videos is that if it's not a definite yes (to keep) and you hesitate about decluttering it, then it's most likely a no (declutter it!).
I would declutter the black dress (if you're not feeling comfy, don't keep it!), keep the blue dress (if you ever wanna have it more formfitting you can add some elastics at the waist), keep the granny bag (since it's sentimental so if you donate it you can't get it back)
You should keep your grannies bag for smart evening things. Loving the premiers and so inspired to do this for my wardrobe when I move home!
Thanks for your opinion, I've definitely been thinking more about it and well I really do love it! Just need to fix the lining. So glad you're enjoying the premieres! I am too
Hey Bee… we think alike 😃 I think Immy’s Granny’s handbag will take on more and more precious meaning with every year. And… as you have said… it is the one for smart evening things. This is coming from the gal who really dislikes purses and has lived out of the same shoulder bag for every occasion for the past 35 years. Granny’s hand bag is (imho) a total keeper. Ⓜ️ary
@@marycharlebois6627 and Bee, I totally agree! The Granny handbag is not too big, not too small, it's dressy, and it has sentimental value, so....it's a keeper! ♥
@@jemma50 for sure it’s the perfect size and the gold accent is so classic! black goes with everything as well.
This made me so nostalgic for when I decluttered to move across country. I moved so much before then that I got down to a car load of stuff. My family did the same in the 90s, they weren’t sure when it was happening and ended up moving and decluttering in a weekend. As to the clothes, if you’re unsure now, you’ll probably never reach for it. Especially when you have other similar pieces you do love. I’d say take in the loose dress if it’s one you love. Again, you may find you stop using it because it’s too big. Love your grans bag, looks in great shape. Maybe keep it instead of two bum bags? I love your commitment to being as sustainable as possible with your footprint of things ☺️
I love a good declutter!
Your content has been so wonderful to me, especially during the pandemic. A mix of honest emotions, informative, lovely calming cooking and all around just a joy to watch.
I’m so excited for your next chapter and to see what content and creativity comes along with it!
Thank you Immy x
This is the boat I’m in, decluttering for a move from US to Australia
Your grannie's bag certainly wont take up any room to move. When you get settled in the US you could place it in a shadowbox and use as an art piece in a gallery wall or hang on a pretty hook as a decorative piece or just hang on a hook in your entryway and store scarves, gloves, keys or any small things you need near the door. That way it can be used as a purse when needed and remind you of granny when it's not.
This is the video I was waiting for! I'm also an eco minimalist and I'm currently decluttering to go travelling fro 6 months and then move out of the house I'm in. Videos like these make me feel even more excited to declutter, thanks for sharing your journey with us
I love the light blue dress with the lace. Beautiful!
I went through this in April ,and it was the toughest but the greatest thing ever... I feel so much clearer mentally. Thank you for sharing this. I tried to do it sustainably too and yes it took me months, but I feel much better about starting early because of that and less stress.
Decluttering can be overwhelming but so rewarding! I love your optimistic look on it and it inspires me to get rid of all the stuff I’m putting off getting rid of. Im not moving, but the benefits of really evaluating what you really need is worth it at any time.
So exciting to start over! I really like the motto I sometimes hear from minimalist thinkers and CZcamsr: imagine what you want your life to look and be like and declutter accordingly. In that way decluttering is thinking about life's fundamentals and your dreams for the future! All the best for you Immy!
honestly anything decluttering related in videos is so calming to me! loved this video and love your take on how to clutter sustainably!!!
You're doing great! It's such a big project. I am moving tomorrow and man, I had no idea what a project it would be! My biggest tip is to plan ahead like you are. I was able to get boxes and materials all for free, second hand. And, I had time to sell items. The items that didn't have much value, I put on a free table in my front yard and amazingly almost all of it was picked up. It's been such a great journey in decluttering WHILE trying to throw as little away as possible. Oh and I also had a bag of sport shirt inserts. I wish they would just sew them in instead of making them able to come out.
I’m 21 and I work at a job that lets me get lots of free stuff and discounted stuff. I’ve had now 43 bras and 15 perfumes. I’m done I can’t handle the amount of stuff, luckily I have sisters and it won’t go to waste and whatever is left over I can donate or trash for certain reasons. I’m moving abroad in three years and need to declutter anyway
How beautiful!!!!!! Congratulations on this new journey. I woke up yesterday and decided to do a declutter & film all the “sustainable” items I’ve purchased over the last 2 years and what I actually like / dislike.
I love my Fairphone with dual SIM card (one for work, one private) and changeable parts. It keeps for a loooong time.
what a great video! loved the music choices on this one! seriously making moving look like fun here. wow. the artistry
thanks so much Arii! I tried to use more upbeat and fun music because you know what I'm like... all soporific usually! Ha oh moving is a whole pile of complicated steps. I think this is the most fun part for me because the admin and VISA process drains my soul!
I had to declutter my life, too, to move abroad. No easy feat! I admire your efforts to do as sustainably as you did and aspire to adopt a similar approach if or when I move again in future ❤
Keep your granny purse! It looks like a classic bag that you could use for fancier event or nights out and it goes with everything, I think it's a keeper ✨
I know this is predominantly about clothing, but I would recommend to keep a box of basic kitchen items at a relatives house if they have space. Good quality kitchen items are hard to replace and if you and your partner decide to move back for whatever reason you'll be grateful. If in a couple of years you are settled and don't think you will come back then its something you can tell to your relatives to donate/pass on to someone who needs to set up home
I'm so excited for your new adventure. I'm currently going through the same process of going through everything. Who knew how exhausting it could be.
I’m happy to see that you have some things to declutter. I hope it won’t be too stressful for you:)
Decluttering takes longer than you could imagine. I am on the process since I will be moving to Italy in less than two months. I just want to take what adds value to my life. I have been "getting rid" of one thing each day. Happy to see your process, maybe I can apply some of your strategies :). Grettings from Colombia.
That black dress looks AMAZING on you
It's ok to get rid of things that have a deap meaning. It's also ok to keep them and display them (not all things you don't use are clutter!). You can also take a picture of the object before you sell or donate it. So you can always look back on it.
Cant wait for the next one. Loving it!
I’ve been trying to get rid of most of my things before my family and I move 400 miles away to a different state. I’ve been so stressed. I hate getting rid of good things/clothes that I don’t use anymore. Ugh. 😔 it has taught me to really think before I buy new things at least.
Ooofff decluttering is hard, you got this, Immy! 💙
Have so much fun, great wishes!
yay! i'm excited you are going to be moving to the US! i'm so inspired by this declutter haha
Literally going through the same process too: sorting through my whole life (living with parents too) to move to the uk at some point and trying to find good homes for stuff i won’t keep. 🤣 books are the hardest for me, as i have fiction books and comic books. And my comic books are my beloved ones 🥲 thankfully, i’ve got friends who are teachers here so donating stationery and art supplies would be easier later on. 😌
Congratulations! 🎊
If it makes you feel better Immy, my Dad passed away recently & my Mum is going into a nursing home so I will have a whole house to sort out.. including my own stuff that was at my parents from when I moved to London. I share a one room studio flat that is already packed but I have so much stuff that I don't want to get rid of like old photos etc... I am convinced this is why I have been having nightmares every day..
Keep your grannies bag! It is better to regret keeping it, than to regret getting rid of it
the skin tight black one looks great on you!
Love this type of videos! Thanks for sharing :)
I really like how you want to be sure about what you bring into your "new life", and not to want to move too much stuff and make also others enjoy, what does not serve you anymore. For the bra pads - not sure, if it will be accepted but - if they are new, you could give it a try and ask i a brafitteria or in any sewing/mending place, if they might not need them. Just to avoid dumping them. I think especially mending places (not sure how to call them in English) might need/want few of those to use in some dresses/tops or to replace in a bra, as original use. PS: You look very good in the first black dress-for me a keeper! The light blue is just adorable and suits you so well!
Thank you so much for all these suggestions! I will definitely look into my closest one! Really appreciate it x
@@SustainablyVegan alternatively, they could be dropped off at your closest recycling centre if they recycle textiles?
I can really understand how you feel about whether or not you’ll keep your granny’s bag. If you love it, and think you’ll use it, now harm in keeping it.
I would consider myself a minimalist, although most of my stuff is sentimental items. I know I don’t need to keep all my old dance costumes, but it is hard to get rid of. I feel like I’ll think differently when I move out of my parents house 😆
For Backpackers and Travellers a non sponsored tip. I brought a EagleCreek Companion 40l a few months ago and its the best travel backpack and i love it with my full heart. I can take enough stuff with me for more than a week and still have some room for souveniers but i dont overbuy anymore while travelling and there is a womens and men version which is great as most backpacks fit me oddly at only 5`2 🙈
AND there’s more… Eagle Creek products have a lifetime guarantee (at least they used to). Approximately 20 years ago I had an Eagle Creek small travel pouch that I carried my wallet and other essentials in. The main zipper broke and was not repairable so I took the travel pouch to an Outdoors Store that sells Eagle Creek products. I did not buy the travel pouch at that store, but they did the leg work and got me a new replacement travel pouch which I still use today. Needless to say, i was incredibly impressed. Eagle Creek products are high quality, and who can argue with a lifetime guarantee?? Have a great upcoming week Wooly Puffin 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary
Hi Immy I really love the black dress that buttons up in the front. You look radiant in it. Keep your granny's purse.❤
Love the vintage 20s vibe dress :) I'm getting rid of my many little black dresses that everyone needs to have in their wardrobe...
Hello! My name is Aelfwynn and I am loving your channel so much!! I just found you via Madeleine Olivia a week ago. Funny, we are crossing paths! I'm from Seattle and I met my Welsh fiancee while hiking the Pembrokeshire coastal path in 2018. I stopped for a couple nights rest in his village and we fell in love. We are getting married here in Seattle in May and I will be moving to Pembrokeshire this summer. You are brave to move to the US!! Not to scare you, but just being real...with the lack of gun control and daily mass shootings, lack of access to affordable health care, and looming threat of a coup and civil war, it is not ideal for us. I'm giving up a wonderful career here, but tbh I'm ready to move on the next phase in my life. Luckily, after selling my house in Seattle I'll have enough savings not to have to work for at least a year, so I am planning many creative pursuits like writing a book and maybe starting a youtube channel. I've lived in the UK before, as I did my masters degree in Scotland and stayed for a few years after. The British countryside is where I feel most at home (close second is the old growth forests of the Pacific NW). I long for the rural life we have in the UK. Living in a city like Seattle is damaging to the soul after a while, even given the wonderful diverse cultural and intellectual environment, the pollution is intolerable- light, noise, air.
Anyway, thanks so much for your channel and your content!! With work and living alone, I often end up not cooking from scratch, and my health suffers. Watching amazing women like you in the kitchen inspires me to make more of an effort. Plant based goodness always wins :) Take care Xxxxx
Another great video of yours that I enjoyed watching Immy - thank you 🙂 I am about to do the same for the 3rd time in the past 2 years haha (and hopefully film a little video on it too if I'm not too shy to share all my stuff lol) 😊 I love seeing your new adventure fall into place, having spent 13 years living abroad myself...keep up the good work 💚
I love the first black dress! But you are right, if you do not feel comfortable you wont wear it. So I would say, see how you feel about it when you wear it for a full day.
the tight black midi dress looks amazing on you! keep it :)
Love the nails! Would love to know how you do sustainable nails 😇💅🏻
Love content like this!
Your nails are so cute!! 💅
Love your fancy event dress!
once I have finished the books I pass them onto family members or charity shops for someone who will enjoy it as much as I did, I don't always keep them, when I do they're normally 5 star ratings :)
I admire this project and your devotion to sustainable living! This is really helpful for me to practice decluttering in parts of my own life, so thank you. This may be too personal to answer, but why would your partner not move to the UK? As an American, I envy free healthcare lol though I’m also a biased Anglophile. 😅
Maybe you could wear the blue special occasion dress as your wedding dress (if you don't want to have a traditional white wedding dress). About your granny's bag... Maybe another family member would like it?
Hi Immy, great video! You inspired me to do a bit of decluttering too :) Would you mind sharing the app you used to sell books? Thanks!
I wish you all the best. I've been there. Only I moved from California to the Mediterranean and there is no partner. My house is run by the two cats who rescued me at local SPA's. If you go with a smile, an open heart, and an open mind you will do well. Bon voyage et bonne chance.
I vote keep the slim black dress and granny's bag!
lol I am watching this because I am getting ready to move from the US to Northern Ireland to be with my long distance husband (we got married online during covid). Good luck!!
Team keep granny's bag. Even if it is one of the few things you store at your parents I think better to regret keeping than regret giving away.
Yay… fellow team member here who shares the same thoughts as you. Go Team Keep Granny’s Bag!! Ⓜ️ary
All the best! I don’t even wanna think about my books, I have hundredssssss
Ooooh so exciting! Xxx
Hey Immy, are you gonna spend more time with Shebi and Madison while you’re living in the US? X
this couldn't have come at a better time - i'm moving abroad next week!!
@@SustainablyVegan to France to teach English! Trying to fit my life into a suitcase is so hard - I feel you 😭
I do the same when i buy my house. Sooo much stuff i don’t need. 😜
It's crazy how much stuff you can have right ? Exchange student get that easily. You come in a new country for only 6 months or 1 year, probably live in a small space and came with one luggage.
It's time to leave and you realize how much you got in this short time.😅
I'm in Korea since 6 months, i moved city recently and i needed to send 3 boxes by the post !!! I came with one backpack 😅
hi!! Those bra pad inserts can be donated to a secondhand craft store if you have one around? If they're not used they can be made into new garments :)
Aaaaaaaw that's so cute!
Immediately started decluttering as well 😂
The black dress is very nice on you, keep it. Agree that the blue dress is too big for you - but I like also the flowy-ness of it.
If it’s your granny’s bag, don’t get rid of it until you have no doubt about it.
I’m so excited about you guys and I can’t wait for you to finally get together! Plus, it will be interesting to see your videos from the US. There is nothing like moving to another country to focus the mind on what is really important for you to take with you. I hope you will keep all of the three dresses you showed as they were unique and looked fab. And that slinky black dress - you look soo good in it, and have the perfect figure for it, so wear it girl !!
how come the bag wasn't a good hiking bag? interested to know since I'm looking at getting my own hiking bag
That looked like vinted labels, what's your profile name? If you already haven't sold everything that is☺️ thankyou x
Are the phones on Trade More unlocked? And can you choose by carrier? You still have to be able to activate the phone and register it, after all. I would like to be more sustainable by buying tech secondhand, but I'm a little wary.
Black dress yes, blue dress no, button down dress yes. Can you repurpose Granny's purse until you decide for sure?
Are there any UK based depop-like apps for selling and buying second hand clothes?
You should try to sell some of the books on Instagram to your followers (or do a giveaway?). I would definitely like some of the ones you have right now ❤️
As a fellow SE Londoner, would you mind please sharing the vintage shop you mentioned? I always feel like we don't have many places like that round here compared to other parts of London...
Yes! It's in East Dulwich called Mabel! I think it's on Melbourne Grove near East Dulwich station! There are also a few in Peckham
Thanks for asking this, I’m in Blackheath so we have some charity shops that have higher end items and Greenwich has one vintage store. Cheers to both 👍🏾
Immy! Could you tell about your nail polish? Did you find a sustainable option for nail polish and nail polish remover? 🥰
I really enjoyed colorful nails but stopped because I couldn’t justify the waste
Hey! I got these for my birthday, because I too usually don't paint my nails due to the waste. I actually treated myself to a salon job so that there was no need to buy anything myself, especially as they use up all the things they buy!
Nice Video
I love the skinny black dress- i don't like the light blue one... I think you don't need cause the black "birthday" dress will do the same ;) Anyway... Have a nice day! :)
Few things I love as much as a good declutter. UHHH.
Hey, is there a good alternative for UK viewers who want to buy tested secondhand tech? It looks like trademore only operates in the US unless I'm mistaken?
Yes, I’ve just looked at this and thought the same, too. I have 3 old phones that I’ve kept over the years because I don’t know how to responsibly dispose of them
I used those bra pads on my coat hangers to help prevent hanger marks on the shoulders of my cardigans...
That's actually genius. I've got a couple of bralettes that are about ready to be recycled but I might keep the pads to do this! Do you just pin them onto the hanger?
I've used those random bra pads to make a pin cushion, a hat, I'm sure there are more options...
I have a work phone... Which I don't use and loads of other dead phones.
If you end up moving to the US, I'd be curious about what kind of culture shocks you experience. I imagine it will be a very different experience from living in the UK.
Congratulations! And love the story as it’s very relatable for me… I’ll be doing sth similar in the future… (American fiancée)
The black long dress could be perfect with tights underneath so it feels less.. right on the skin :)
Those annoying bra pads! I hate them as well >.< Such an inspiring vid, I need to declutter my stuff too =)
