The MLB needs to introduce a rule where the lowest ranked umpires are sent down to the minors.
I hope baseball could place an earpiece on the Umpire ear like the pitcher, where it will buzz in a strike in the strike zone, right after they make a called ball or strike. This way when they miss the call they will recognize the strike zone better and become a better umpire. So they improve to at least 96% correct calls. Also it makes either the pitcher or batter change their game and either swing at pitches that are normally balls or frustrate pitchers. They need to be a major league umpiring better and not frustrating fans.
It'll never get past the umpire's union. If they were able to make such a rule, AH would be umping little league.
Sent down minors ? Just fire him immediately
@@HariSeldon913I wish there was a way to get rid of the Umpire Union, so Angel doesn’t hide behind them and shout “muh racism.” 🙄
Amazing Idea. Make it at least 5 of them. Make them get good
The commissioner probably loves Angel Hernandez he is the ultimate smoke screen for all the other major issues lol
MLB has no place for a dirty umpire. There is a difference between bad and dirty...Angel is dirty without apology.
What a crock of shit!
Angel should have been gone a long time ago.
He is protected by the umpire association.
@@0xTomasMartin I know. It's obnoxious.
MLB wants robo umps ..
@@user-gk9sx4ow6y any way they can suck the life out of baseball. Ugh....
The union is strong. I’m convinced it’s 100% intentional. There’s 1000 guys in the minors like pat hoberg who are just waiting for their shot.
I remember a game years ago where Angel was umpiring at first base and had THREE calls overturned by replay. He is terrible in all aspects of the job.
It was a wild card game
2018 Yankees athletics right?
@@maxdubs2241Yankees vs Red Sox if remember correctly
I'm pretty sure Angel is just trolling baseball at this point. He's making a mockery of the game because he doesn't get along with the umpire's association. They won't give him good assignments because he sucks so he is showing them, "Oh you think I'm bad? I'll show you bad!"
Ball falls on the ground
Rest of the umpires: Inside
Angel: Strike
I was in attendance for his horrible 3rd strike call on Ortiz at Yankee Stadium. I could tell it was way outside from the back of the left field bleachers, a few cold ones deep. Sooooooo yeah, buddy’s gotta go
Are you kidding me? If we cant fire horrible employees to make way for adequate and likely excellent replacements that are waiting for and opportunity IT IS TIME TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM!
I just want one player to rung up by Angel on a horrible call and the player just very calmly hands Angels a pair of glasses.
The hell with the glasses...hand him a cane and give him a seeing eye dog...
Hell, buy me a ticket and I'll do it. Might get ejected, but I'll do it without batting an eyelash.
Angel Hernandez is a drama queen, and wants the drama, are we sure he'd take a payoff?
good point
feels like the more you argue with him the more bad calls he makes as if to make a point. This kinda umpire isnt appropriate working at your neighborhood park
The man sued MLB because he wasn’t getting post season assignments and had to be told in a court of law that he wasn’t getting those assignments because he sucks
Here's the bit I don't get. Angel sucks behind the plate, we all know this. There has to be a reason they keep shoving him out there to do it...but MLB won't say what it is.
My theory is they keep shoving him out there to do it to get enough people onside to bring in the robo calls they're doing in AAA.
So MLB can say, without naming people, "Hey we're bringing this in to get rid of bad calls. 50:50 calls on the edge of the plate are always gonna be tricky, but a ball six inches off the plate called a strike can be challenged so we get the right call"
Everyone knows they're talking about guys like Angel and CB but they won't say it is them so they can't get sued.
@@ahogg5960 he’s still out there because he has the equivalent of tenure and the umps have a strong union
At this point, if MLB has to pay him to go away, it would be worth every cent.
This is why we need robo-ump for balls & strikes. I hate how each umpire is allowed to have their own strike zone(s) when the rule book says what the requirements are.
Absolutely!
thats always been the plan, angel is an example of why they will have to.
its way past time to fire him.
The MLB would have done so years ago, but the union backs him.
They can't. 🤦 You people are LOST like Matt Antonelli during a play breakdown.
@@J.C...Then what do you suggest, you loon?
The other umps should do what it takes to make him go away. He single-handedly makes them all look bad.
There's nothing they can do 🤦🤣 Jesus you people don't have a clue.
@@J.C... I mean yes MLB can do, it will cause em a headache, but they could just fire him, and deal with the legal complications after.
@@J.C...Angel Hernandez? Is that you?
Barring Angel Hernandez from baseball should have been the first item agreed to in the CBA
How can anyone like him have a job umpiring? I mean, if I thoroughly sucked that bad at my job, I'd be fired without recourse. How can an umpire be this invincible? We now have the data to back up how bad he really is with sites like Umpires Scorecard using statcast data.
The Harper check that Angel called a swing 🤦♂️
Angel is obviously pushing the envelope intentionally.
The fact that Angel used to be under Joe West tells us A LOT. They're on the field to be in charge and to be right, not to get the call right,
Hernandez should have been fired years ago. The guy is a fucking joke.
If you exploit umpires as hard as they do before they make it to the majors, the union has to fight all the harder to keep their members there once they do. That's why they can't fire Angel. The only way to solve this is to make minor league umpiring (much like minor league playing) a liveable experience, and negotiate performance based demotion to the minors.
Umpires that think people buy tickets and watch the games to see them. The best umpires are the ones you don't think about.
I spent nearly 30 years umpiring high school and college level baseball and Angel is embarrassing
Angel Hernandez and Joe West were the 1 2 combo of Bad umpires
He will someday call a players homerun was nothing but a strike.
It destroys the integrity of the game.
Teams will have to agree not to play if he is working.
The Gleyber Torres call was probably the worst thing I've ever seen from an umpire.
I’m convinced he’s this bad on purpose and thrives off the heat he gets. He loves being the center of attention and he’s gonna make sure he’s just that every game he umps
what about teams refusing to play if hes an umping?
Then they give up the games and get losses. The umpires union doesn't care if they don't play.
@@J.C... yes but the mlb does force the mlb 2 fire him
@@gijoe41688You do realize that resentment among referees is something that occurs right? In happens in the NBA and NHL, if a referee is disrespected/wronged, other referees will stop giving the benefit of the doubt to the player/s and the team involved for a long time. The player/s and the team involved will basically lose every 50/50 call.
What would happen if both teams agreed to boycott a game that had Angel scheduled to ump?
They should have years ago when he started and proved he had no idea what he was doing behind the plate, and was a hothead besides.
Teams should refuse to take the field when he is a part of the crew
Credit to the hitter for walking away as quickly and calmly as possible.
I can't even name any other current mlb umpire but I know the name Angel Hernandez and that says it all about Angel.
I only know like two players names. I rarely pay much attention to MLB but I know who Angel Hernandez is.
YES
Love this show. Always on point.
Keep him, but he needs to legally change his name to Diablo Satanez.
Angel Hernandez is an embarrassment to baseball period. He needs to be PUBLICLY FIRED!
Counterpoint: any news is good news - MLB needs villains, Angel Hernandez is the guy we all love to hate and he gets MLB trending. He's terrible, universally hated... and that's exactly why we need him.
F the MLB. Let's just crowd fund this thing. Plenty of former players would chip in to get him gone.
If umps went back to chest protectors, they would call outside pitches correctly...but Angel thinks he's bulletproof by his " racist" suit against MLB. He is incompetent and should be fired
Just fire him and deal with the repercussions
It just wasn’t being called against the rangers, it was against both teams. Atrocious
The "rigging" idea is sound. I am old enough to remember the Brinkman crew making their personal religious purpose in life too constantly f*** over the Toronto Blue Jays. They got away with it for a long while, but eventually the press coverage of it moved outside of Toronto and it became so well-known that they hsd to tone it down enough to be decent.
all umpires should have been removed the moment hi-def video cameras were invented. like literally around 2004. baseball is now 20 years behind.
If I sucked that bad in my job as Angel Hernandez is, I deserve to be let go. For what he's being paid, he needs to be let go for how horrible he is.
You don't know what unions are apparently
the home plate ump in the mariners reds game yesterday made a call just as bad on Ty France. At least 3 balls outside.
Nope, they should fire him and see what happens in court when he sues. He's already lost twice in his lawsuits vs MLB, go for 3 for 3.
Yes. Offer him triple the salary to get off the field. Make him a consultant that consults about nothing.
This is proof of a few things, one of them is that unions aren't always good. His union is the only reason he has a job. I worked with more than a few Teamsters who were protected by the union.
Angel is the most famous umpire in baseball.
Fast way to get rid of him is for both teams to refuse to take the field if he is behind the plate. MiLB would fire him so fast.
Not just baseball, other sport too. This is one of the reason I don’t bet any professional sports.
I’m no special pleader for Angel, but in an equal way, about we talk about how bad the catching is these days?
When I worked, catching was an art form. A good catcher would present pitches well and it made it easier for the umpire to call the game.
Nowadays, nearly every pitch is pulled, and some are pulled 6-10 inches. That should not be rewarded but rather punished.
When a catcher pulled a pitch that badly on me, and he’d ask me where did you have it? I’d respond, I don’t know, where did you have it? You must have thought it was a ball. Stop pulling the pitch and I’ll give it to you.
My how this game has changed over the years. Greg Maddux would not be a hall of famer in today’s game
6.2 inches off the plate???? Guy needs to go. Fired for cause. Incompetent. On the record. He is indeed a drama Queen. An incompetent drama Queen.
YES. Get him out of the majors and don't inflict him on the minors!
Its easy, give him a plush MLB job, like deputy director of officiating, with a million dollar salary, then fire him on day 1.
i remember that game aj is talking about, i was so pissed, like these umps go out of their way to screw players
100% terrible look, had my roommate that’s is 0% baseball fan asking me about it this weekend
Theres no reason that mlb cant act as theres ability to send him down for retraining.
He can accept it or retire.
Dude calls the game like Reggie Jackson is gonna kill the Queen in the 7th inning
I can say from personal experience, Angel Hernandez is a reason for some people refusing to watch the game
I would believe in America again if we used all this media and connectivity to collectively as fans of baseball boycotted attending and watching on all platforms all games where Hernandez is behind the plate.
I will start a GoFundMe for MLB to pay Angel to go away. I’m sure most MLB fans around the country would gladly pitch in
Yeah he's needed to go for awhile
ABSOLUTLY NOT! MLB needs to fire him for cause. Do not pay him a dime for being the worst umpire in baseball history. MLB has been gutless for way to long and it's time to make this worthless employee pay the price just like any other employee in any other job. After that, move to have the union decertified and start fresh.
maybe he needs to be investigated for "Point Shaving"... he might be dirty... then punish him with Rose...
Wait. I got it. AJ didn’t read about or listen to the relevant facts but boy he sure do got opinions.
I thought lousy employees got fired !!!
Mlb should have a rotational structure where all umpires rotate to minors and be evaluated. They all stay far too long and get way too comfortable.
I'm not going to lie. Ángel Hernández is part of what makes Major League Baseball fun and unpredictable. I don't want him to go.
mlb should pay fans who put up with this POS
At the VERY least implement the Ball/Strike Challenge they've been playing with. This level of incompetence needs to have some course of redress!
Fire Angel, hire Trevor.
Never going to happen. The umpires union won’t permit it.
A.J. makes every single topic about his own career.
Angel Hernandez is just another Scott Foster
I think it’s a matter of loving the power for Angel. He doesn’t want to leave. He loves it too much. Everyone has a price however
This is a con of unions that needs to be focused on more. Needs to change.
As sad as it sounds Angel won’t be fired because he’s protected by the union; and ironically enough, he adds a comedic relief, which gives the MLB more money.
from the games Ive watched this year, they ALL need to go. abysmal strike zone for all of them.
Hernandez misses calls on purpose just to be an ass. Knowing that MLB and the union will stand behind him.
That was the strike zone back in the 90's. Just ask Maddux.
They should make him go away, without any pay.
Someone doesn't understand how unions work.
that's what you get with unions - no matter how badly they perform it's difficult or impossible to fire them unless they actually steal or are criminally charged with something. Anyway this isn't just an Angel Hernandez problem - home plate umpiring across the league is an absolute shit-show.
This video title is the question I've been asking for a year, basically since the Schwarber game nearly two years ago...
I'm waiting for the day when an Angel bad call goes in favor of a player and that player still calls Angel out for making a bad call...
Huh?
Pitch goes into the Stands Angel Hernandez strike
Look, everyone has been stuck with a really bad teacher at some point. Or some terrible boss whose only skill is pleasing his direct supervisor? This is a good storyline for MLB, I’m enjoying it.
If Angel gets fired, who will the podcasters and reporters have left to talk about?
Idk, maybe how amazing the game is without him. Just a guess
That's actually my point. The media focuses too much on characters like Angel Hernandez for clicks rather than the game itself. You missed the sarcasm behind it. Literally, after the news broke that he is retiring, a podcaster was already asking who the worst umpire is now and started calling out C. B. Bucknor.
I don’t know if the people can do anything, but somebody should start a petition because I’ll freaking sign it and I’ll give you some money
Worthless just like every other digital petition that's ever been signed by anyone. They're all just a waste of time. They can't compel anyone to do anything. They aren't binding laws. They're just a piece of paper that says "these people don't want this"
That's it. They're USELESS.
When he sued for discrimination, did MLB offer to settle?
I wonder what Angel has on the Union… probably has knowledge of a betting scandal or who owes money to the mob…
Hear me out. What if he called every ball a strike and every strike a ball. Would that be enough for some actual action to occur or nah?! WTF is the line here?
He’s going to be an MLB umpire until he retires in 20 years.
What dirt does AH have on the Commisioner?
Buddy buys his shirts in the kid section
