adding a clip of black wire into the candle as a burnt wick, adds authentic detail. Just hold the clip of wire with plier heat the wire and plunge into the wax.

I think you need a cat. Miss Periwinkle needs a cat to keep the rodents down, and to warm her lap in the winter. I love the books and candles. I own thousands of books, sadly most are currently in storage. What I have inside are mostly unread books and that's only a few hundred... maybe I have a problem?

    The shelves.
The details of the books and book stacks and the candles. The little dog... let's not forget the dragon or Ms. Periwinkle herself. :)
    Everything is magical.
I know you're having a fun time creating these details because I'm having a great time watching you create.

I clicked on this video because I thought the thumbnail of the bookcase looked so awesome. There were a lot of great ideas about making varied books! You need a bone folder, though! I kept thinking that little spatula thing was going to tear right through that glue-wet paper. :) Also, random trivia, when the pages of a book aren't cut cleanly and flush, it's called deckling.

I finally got to watch some of the cardboard house series, and I am so amazed at how genius your ideas are. But not surprised in the least.. The crayon candles ..omg that cuts my polymer process in half and saves my expensive clay! High Five Girl! Also, I add a black piece of wire for the wick, and would still work just as well with these "crayondles"!!! I would absolutely get addicted to making those....your shelves with books and dripping candles were my fav, I'm gonna make sets of those asap and def try to incorporate some of this in my room diorama I have started, since I'm already using some of those materials. And the lil' fairy dog, first of all those wings.. brilliant! Thank you for showing off this lil trick... and the pink was a perfect toner, to balance out that orange! O' and thank you for showing me how to strengthen my card board, that's going to be really helpful while I'm working with my diorama,🥰 Love it Ara 💕

Really effective detailing, and your procedures are both elegant and well explained. A couple of comments:
For the candles, I'd be tempted to use a soldering iron rather than an open flame. Gets you very good control over the part you're melting without quite as much "Oh no! The house is on fire!: risk.
For sculpting small details, you might think about using epoxy putty (A+B/"Green Stuff", Milliput, Magic Sculp, or Apoxie Sculpt are common choices). They give you the working time you need while not needing baking to set the final form. I'd also recommend a wire armature inside whatever sculpting medium you use; it attaches much more securely to the base sculpt as well as providing better durability for thin, fragile parts.

IMO you're still an art teacher : ) And an excellent one! I really love your calm patient attitude and your honesty about when stuff doesn't work and how that's okay. I am enjoying this channel a lot, it's very soothing and inspiring.
I'm remodeling a slightly LESS tiny house than your projects (a camper) and if you haven't I recommend you try DAP's Fast N Final spackling compound just to see how you could apply it to your projects. (No, I don't work for them, lol)
You can get a small tub of it that seals WELL at Walmart for roughly the cost of a cheeseburger. You can wash it off (when wet!) of fingers or tools or fabric with water, and it's a VERY light fluffy texture, fine-grained, sort of like a face cream almost, or that whipped cream cheese? There's no discernable wetness to it, either, I don't think it would make paper edging or similar "soggy" and mess up your design.
It dries pretty quickly if not applied deeply, and a few smooths over with a tiny bit of fine sandpaper fixes any issues. You can build it up over several layers also. But the real magic here is how very light it is. I admit I've never worked with drywall compound like you're using but just watching you do it it looks kind of weighty-wet-heavy, which is good I'd imagine in certain applications, but if you wanted to have or repair something delicate like, oh, a fine balcony rail or something, fairy wings, an ornate trellis, etc, or work with a very fragile material that can't take a lot of weight and still look right, the DAP might do you just fine. The final result is somewhat soft, so not for lots of handing, but that very softness makes it really easy to blend edges and repair complicated shapes. I'd like to try your "now coat the whole thing with glue several times" thing to see if it can harden it up once in shape!
And if it doesn't work for your art, well, you said you have kids, lol: It's amazing for filling in a ding in a wall. I just clean the spot with strong alcohol, put it on with my fingers and use like a credit card or something to tidy it smooth. Touch up with matching paint and you're done! I even filled in where I took out light fixtures with this stuff, and it's holding for over a year now and is almost invisible.

It’s all coming together beautifully, the crochet blanket could be draped over the couch.Miss Periwinkle could drape it over her legs on a winters nigh whilst reading one of her books. You could mute the blanket colour by dipping in black tea if it’s too bright for Miss Periwinkle. I must admit rugs give a home a cosy feel to it. ☺️☺️

Maybe one more shelf could be put in the kitchen, to fill with boxes and cans etc. that she cooks with? One box or jar might be for dog treats.

love these miniature's. just a couple of thoughts to do the candle drips what about using an old glue gun put crayon through the back as you would a glue stick and drip as you normally would. add a burnt wick by cutting a thin piece of wire painted black stick into and glue into center of the candles. for the books before making the covers to add a leather look to some scrunch up the strips and unfold to look like worn leather then make your covers and cover with the pva glue or modge podge to add a sheen.

You could always add some black thread after using the hot glue gun to the top to add a wick. I’ve seen some miniature people even use hot glue sticks to make candles.

Really, really love this! What about some wall hangings, tapestries, paintings etc. This would really add some more of Mrs Periwinkle’s personality to the house!

I had four kids in school at once. Believe me, I know about the crayon thing! 😂 After our youngest went to high school, we donated all of them to the Art teacher. She was VERY pleased. 😂

Wow all the books are adorable. I never thought to make candles out of broken crayons, that's a great idea. You could call the dog Amber

NOW I know where old crayons go to be resurrected! And in such a charming manner as well. Your method of creating books is just what my library ordered - I need a slew of books, but refuse to pay for commercially made ones...................now I don't have to pay for them, AND I don't have to spend the few years I have left making them!

I can't tell you how excited I was when the crayon method worked... I literally had to tell myself to stop making them lol! So glad you will be able to use the book tutorial George!

“Actually”…short was on taller candles air wax mixing makes sense. In an old draftsy house wind will blow candle 🕯 wax. Also when blowing out candles was can get splattered over time. So for me that adds to the realism. If you would like to add one more element, you could a a candle snuffer. That is something that you would definitely find in a very old house.

I love love LOVE the books. And how fitting (for me, anyway) that this is the video you uploaded today, on what would have been my mum's 89th birthday. She was an avid reader and instilled the love of reading in all seven of her children.
She was also a crafter extraordinaire and would have enjoyed your videos as much as I do.
I think my mum would say Miss Periwinkle needs to have a little knitting or sewing basket next to her rocking chair.
I've thought about names for the wee doggie...originally I was leaning toward Jock....but with his modifications, I think a better name would be Lucky as he now reminds me of Falkor, the Luck Dragon, in "The Neverending Story".

Love your channel! Your idea about the candles from crayons gave me one. It makes me think of making a group of candles out of paper rolled into tube of various heights. The opening would need to be big enough to add flickering fairly lights by placing them inside the tubes. Dripping the crayons down around the sides and just enough over the hole would give a really cool effect. I don’t know if there is enough heat from fairy lights to effect the candles. It might be worth a try.

Omg thats genius! Using crayons for candles is genius.... i wonder if colored hot glue sticks would work for something similar 🤔

I saw a tutorial where the artist used hot glue sticks, cut them down to various sizes, then melted them for the wax down the sides, she also cut a tiny piece of black thread for the wick. They looked great, just as fun as yours!

Tiny accessories make all the difference. With each new addition, the house is coming more and more alive! I think it would look cute if she had some artworks on the walls (like those decorative plates and cross stitch works old ladies often have), maybe some magical houseplants or flowers, decorative cushions, and a tiny tea/coffee set with pastries. Oh! And food/water bowls for the doggo, of course. :3
