You can't just hold onto someone's firearm that you deem unfit. That opens you up to legal action for theft. There was a case in NM about a year ago where a 19 yr old service member brought in a handgun he built (which is legal in NM for anyone 19 and older) to buy a holster. The gunshop took his gun, claiming he couldn't have it being completely unaware of the state laws. This resulted in a lawsuit that the shop lost.
If your bringing in a firearm for any reason, repair, holster fitment etc, it should be in a case mag out unloaded. I thought even non gun people knew this lol

Stores that I've been to require you to have it in a case no ammunition and the magazines completely out of the firearm it is advised to have a barrel plug in it something indicating that there's nothing in the chamber but you get the idea it's in a case so it's not like you're going to do anything with it anyhow If you bring it into the store and you want to get looked at you get booted out they do not want you pulling that shit out of your holster pulling your firearm out of your holster without any clarification whatsoever letting people know what the hell you're going to do in exactly what you're going to do or letting someone else do it like a firearm clerk is the fastest way to end up 6 ft under people can't read minds and even if they could they still wouldn't trust it I know I wouldn't

All of his long colt revolvers were loaded, his .22 beretta and a mf 500 s&w 😮 and he said they were loaded because he carries them. The owner was like are you carrying them right now?? I was baffled to say the least
