1890'S woodworking installer guy: "No one will notice the trident isn't finished."
2023 Kaleb: "What's this?!"
could be a replacement with a shortcut OR could be a woodworkers 'let me do this and see if anyone notices' OR Mr. Brown wanted a tiny imperfection (some used to think complete perfection look was bad luck or pretentious, but they'd usually hide a whoopsy in a less conspicuous place)
@@PrimarchEldarAutarch Yes! So many possibilities!
thank you for showing what Eric and his daughter were working on. My jaw literally dropped. I could not BELIEVE how gorgeous that sunroom was and then blown away by the work it took to make it happen. Made me EXTRA excited to see how they help to put your roof back together!
Isn't that something! I was in awe myself! I just loved that detail they put into that house. Now I can't wait until they are ready to tackle Kaleb's!
I agree
My jaw dropped too on the craftsmanship of Eric and his daughter.
Also what an amazing gift you’ve been given to learn from artisans.
Waiting for a world class carpenter may be frustrating, but I'm sure it will be well worth it,. For all of us!
I completely understand what you've found with Eric and Claire that is, a beautiful addition to your life. You're getting a personalized apprenticeship and a good friend of which, both are priceless. Starting to get a glimpse of stunning and when you're finished, she's going to look like a Fabergé Egg! Love the overhead views of the city. CHEERS!
I audibly gasped when I saw the sunroom Eric and his daughter magically recreated. You’re right- this will be awesome and I can’t wait either ❤
Learning stuff to restore is better than letting projects rot to dust. "GET'ER'DONE!" It may take 10 years, but I'm happy.
Years ago, during the time span when all these grand houses were being built, there must have been teams of craftsmen who used hand tools to create all the beautiful woodwork and trim. But now, Eric is one of the very few that remain to carry on and teach their artistry.
What a nice tribute to the very deserving Eric LaVelle and Claire ❤
"It has to get worse before it gets better" -- true!! Your excellent work also calls to mind a favorite saying from my late father: "Every job is six others."
That conservatory is absolutely stunning! It makes me sad to think how crap; houses built today are compared to that.
OMG that sunroom Eric and Claire rebuilt took my breath away! It is spectacular! Such talent in this day and age is rare!
How lucky to have talented craftsmen in your city that can share their skills! The facade of your home is looking great.
That sunroom is beautiful Eric and his daughter are doing great work and you’re blessed to have them working with you
Thank you for giving Eric the joy of knowing yet another person values his knowledge and wants his skills to exist in the future.
Wonderful. You are now re-establishing the age of craftsmen that built these great Victorian houses 125 years ago! Thank you.
Wow Eric and his daughter are true artists.
The sun room is amazing. Caleb you said from the start this was going to a long time to get everything done. You have been working on so many parts of the house. And bit by bit it is getting done. So many things have been accomplished. Don't worry how fast just do it the quality way
you have been working. Thanks👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁🎃🍂
I'm so excited to see the mansard roof repaired. It truly is like "having the crown put back on" your beautiful house. ❤
The house is looking better and better every week. I will be traveling to St. Louis next October for a wedding. I will for sure be at least driving by to see the house. I can’t imagine how amazing the house will be by this time next year. Keep doing what you’re doing Kaleb 😊 you are a true craftsman with passion in preserving history.
The original workman never thought anyone would catch the mistake way up there😂
I really can't wait, this is gonna be so exciting to watch. I've been getting antsy waiting for it to get wrapped because I hate the idea of her going through another winter with all those gaps, ESPECIALLY given all the work you've put into getting it fixed and tight.
How amazing that people are teaching themselves these skills and then teaching others. I hate the synthetic materials they are using in modern houses today. You can certainly tell the difference. It's just pure love and respect for the real deal and the time and effort it takes to do it right, and with pride.
It occurred to me as I watched the time lapse that with all the good work you have done in restoring this house that by the time you have finished it will be time to start maintaining it, in much the same way as the Sydney Harbour Bridge is always being painted. The finish one end and immediately start again at the other.
Wow. I wish your carpenter had a channel. They are amazing! I literally gasped when I saw the sunroom. You are super lucky to know such craftsmen.
Really like your time lapses!❤. Much respect for Eric and his daughter. Thanks God there are still people left who can create that beauty!
The sunroom that Eric built is absolutely fabulous.
Wow. Eric and his daughter are truly artists in the craft!! Looking great!
It’s looking beautiful.
Thanks for sharing Eric and his daughter’s work with us. It’s amazing. I’m so glad he is also inspiring and helping people to continue the craft.
Wow! I was blown away at what Eric n his daughter have been doing. What their working on with those absolutely beautiful windows is amazing. That is a trade that you just don’t see anymore. I’m sure you feel blessed to know him n also as a friend. I think that’s great that that’s what you want to do in the rest of your life to know how to make ornate wood n windows n ect….
It takes time for everything to come together. I’m so excited for you when you can finish putting everything together n it’s painted. Yes, it’s gonna be beautiful!
♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
Eric and Claire are truly gifted master artisans and so are you.
Wow! Eric's and his daughter's work is amazing! Do you have any links to their business? Have you considered doing an episode with them as guests, or featuring their shop?
Great idea! See if Eric agrees to it.
My goodness!
The work that Eric and his daughter Claire (or Clara sorry if I'm misspelling) have done is absolutely BREATH-TAKING!! It's so nice to know that there are still true craftsmen out there that really take pride in their work. I'm so tired of the cold, cookie-cutter design in architecture today. I love to see ones bringing back the originality and BEAUTY in these homes. I can't wait to see the roof restored It's going to be soo beautiful!!
Love your dedication and attention to detail Kaleb.. Also, your friend and his daughter are indeed magicians; that sun room is absolutely incredible!
Isn't it incredible, the talent and compassion that people have. That rope work was stunning and too amazing for words. You and Kim have done so well with your house so far. It's exciting what will be happening soon. Good luck 👍
Wow! Eric and Claire/Clare (sp.?) are true gems! They’re extremely gifted craftspeople, and I can see why you’d wait to work with them 1000%. It’s awesome how y’all have become friends and he’s mentoring you on your path to professional restoration expert! Awesome video, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what comes as it slowly unfolds. The kind of work y’all do understandably takes time to do right, and it’s a big lesson to learn in our world of instant gratification ❤
Congrats on your progress. Certainly better. Your carpenter Erik does beautiful work. People like you and Eric certainly shows off the workmanship that was once done on building houses. Nice work.
So excited to see the progress you are making! Thank you for sharing the information on Eric and his daughter’s work, phenomenal artistry and attention to detail, and the fact that they will be working on your house and teaching you how does my heart happy to know that historic restorers are so willing to share their skills for the future!
How fortunate to have a friend like Eric and his daughter! Their work is stunning! I love your heart for this home and your home city. My son and his family live in the Lindenwood Park area and I love to go for a visit. St Louis has so many wonderful places to see, including the Charles S Brown house! ❤️😊
I love that you have so much respect for the history of these old places. Everything is looking great.
I share your excitement 😊 The fact that these things can be copied to it's original form is amazing!!
Be ready to pour money into the project - if I could I would. There is always just one more thing that needs to be repaired!
Why do I get a little misty eyed when you relay the vision for this house? It's a youtube highlight of my week to come see the progress.
You’ve really come a long way. Can’t wait to see the final house when it’s all finished.
That might be several decades at this pace.
@@jefsiv 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
:D
Good that you've still got good weather to work on the exterior. Thank you for sharing Eric's work, it's incredible. It's rare to see someone who is such a master of their craft, particularly when it comes to historical craftsmanship.
Wow, that work on the sunroom at the other home looks incredible. True artwork
Eric and his daughter are true artists.
Oh my goodness! What fantastic work Eric and his daughter have done. Just amazing! It makes such a difference, as you say, when people really care about how things are done. Often people of like mind gravitate toward each other, and with things like CZcams channels, it's much easier to find them. You are helping create a community that extends far beyond St. Louis. I agree with your choice to correct the missing trident 'arm'. It's so exciting to see you getting this close! Carry on, sir! :)
Wow wow, what a craftsman Eric is. That rope-moulding is perfect and definitely how it looked then.
And your progress is also moving forward. In not too long of time you will have the mansard more beautiful then it was probably 100 years ago.
Wow! You are so very fortunate to have met Eric and his daughter, and in turn, old homes will benefit in the future as well. Huzzah!
People, like you and Eric, and your/their surroundings, should be cherished, like the apple of eye, as well as all old machines, & mechanisms, & skills & crafts!! It is necessary to revive these arts and, of course, I would like to see more houses, like this on your street, so that don’t see eyesore wastelands. 🧐🧡
Kaleb you have the heart ❤ of a true artisan and that of an artist. I so enjoy watching your passion grow with each of your videos. 😍
Eric and his daughter, do outstanding work. Wow the room came out stunning. You are getting the best of the best to teach you, and i know you will absorb ever lesson.
Your home is going to look breathtakingly amazing when all this work is completed. 👍 👍 👍 Yet, there's so much work to be done, and I think it's a very daunting project. You need to have a true passion for restoration to stick with a project that requires this much work for so long. 😇
That sunroom was absolutely beautiful. And yes there is no point in being good at a trade if you don’t teach it to others!!!
Eric's house...OMG, stunning!
Oh wow that sunroom looks absolutely beautiful !! I don't even think the computer lathe at the wood smith i work for would even be able to duplicate that. Eric and his daughter have some very amazing skills to recreate beautiful patterns that were lost to history.
Wow. That’s absolutely jaw dropping work! I hope he does teach you so that you become a master craftsman, and then you teach your children, should you have them. That’s how ancient skills survive.
I am so looking forward to seeing this talented pair working on your house. 👏👏
WOW, WOW and WOW. What incredible work! Skill transfer is everything. It’s definitely something I don’t think is very valued in the modern world. Human hands and knowledge…what a great combination 👍
0:37 Love watching your videos here in Australia! It's 1.05 Tuesday morning!
Regarding the uncut portion of the trident: I know from some study of Catholic Church architecture, many craftsman (especially tile-layers, mosaic artists, and wood carvers) would intentionally leave one flaw (an uncut face, a tile layed opposite, etc) in their work to acknowledge "only God is perfect, I can only come close but not be perfect without him" (or something to that effect).
It makes me wonder if the master craftsman who worked on the top details of your roof may have followed that tradition. If it was just a little missed cut I wouldn't think so, but that was such a large, obvious flaw... and one that would be spotted only by the most careful observer way down on the ground.
You are all true artisans!!! So enjoy your efforts to bring beauty back to life!! Such a journey!❤
I just got done remodeling my house Saturday i had it since 2018 and had to be put on hold 6 times from the city we did a huge addition but it had to look at like it was original due to it being historic it was built in 1898
My husband is a master woodcarver, and I really appreciate the wood work you are doing.
He's been asked before to hand carve pieces for old Victorians.
It warms my heart to see the craft being taught to the next generation 😊You are doing such a great job ❤
Wow that is awesome work you all are doing! You see these details in the 1800’s but then it slowly dies off to plain brick…even in the interior of homes and buildings…becomes very sterile and the beauty is taken away as time goes on…It’s great to see you all restoring the homes…we have an 1831 home in Ohio and have no pictures of what it original looked like…Great job!! 👍💕🙏😊🇺🇸🐾
I would love to see videos of before and after renovation of some historical buildings and the people behind them, especially when it's crafted, I wonder how they looked before too.
St. Louis is chock full of great old Second Empire architecture. Thanks for restoring a piece of it.
Kaleb, the outside is going to be gorgeous when it's said and done. I'm so excited to be on this journey with you and Kim. Eric's house is amazing.
I often think what your house will look like when it's complete. Love you kaleb and kim!💕
Eric & his Daughters work is Amazing👍🤗
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
wow ! this is amazing , the sun room is phenomenal ! I would love to sit in that room ! Eric and Sarah's work is top tier ! you are so lucky they will teach you !
I have been following this for the last 3 years! I am so excited for you guys! Hope I get to see it for myself!❤
Looking good, Kaleb. Wondering how you will get to the areas between your house and you neighbor’s? That looks like a real challenge. The sunroom on Eric’s house is amazing!
Wow, I never realized how close the neighbor house is to yours. Also, that wood work is amazing!
Good morning Kaleb, this is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Wow Eric and his daughter do excellent work!!!!
I love the lonely stoic mailbox on the corner down the street. Happy to support your project and love the work you're doing.
Wow! That sunroom is stunning.
That sunroom is a work of art!
Sometimes close friendships happens through the love and passion of something being created, restored, and repaired. It is a beautiful thing ❤
Thank you for mounting the camera on a solid mount, while on the lift. With the motion of the lift, the time lapse was making me feel ill. I asked my daughter to check it out and it messed her up also. Thanks again and thank you for the excellent content.
She is going to be so grand! Love what you do!!!
I love history ive Studied history and love the beginning industrial age which started around the time your house was built, very rare woodwork and craftsmanship went into homes in this era everything hand built seems perfection was always Job 1 i mean the average home today made with partical board(glue) would no way be standing 150 years later just would not, thank you sir for nailing a piece of history back into modern day veiw so few know about and the meeting of another artist is an act of God thanks again.
rare breed of cat ....... artistic imagination bringing the abstract into reality ! You guys are a force for good !
I love your attention to detail, finding that trident shape hadn’t been finished properly and fixing it. Also, great to hear you’ve found some talented new friends.
My, how fortunate are you to have an artist like Eric and his daughter to help you and teach you how to create masterpieces. Masterpieces like Eric has done to his own house. What a beautiful piece of art his home is. Love your channel and, as many others have said, I’m looking forward to seeing the mansard roof repairs completed. You and Kim are doing a fantastic job, Mr. Brown is surely smiling down on you. The exterior stone restoration you’ve completed is just stunning. I never thought it was possible to repair such drastic damage…might have known, Kaleb, you could do it. Watching from Central PA.
Impressive historical restoration by Eric and his daughter. So beautiful all hand made. When I studied at University of Oxford, I studies architectural history and archeology of historic buildings. I have such an appreciation of historic preservation and historic renovation. Thank you so much for your efforts and for sharing. I look forward to the next episodes.
It's such a labor of love for you with this house. Although it's going to take some time to complete it will all be worth it in the end. It's going to be gorgeous !!!!
Hearing the excitement in your voice makes me excited. I'm glad that there is someone who is willing to work with you cause we all know you'll pass on the knowledge. Can't wait for things to get going.
The attention to detail is absolutely marvelous! I just love it.
I'm in a house restoration group on FB with Eric. His work is stellar!
Eric and his daughter are true artist is carpentry!!
Erics work is beautiful, Hes a true artisan , Caleb your doing wonderful, This is so exciting to know that soon the mansard will be restored, Blessings,
1890's Trident detail.
Friday closing time at the shop, the workman sigh's, "I'll just finish this on Monday"
Monday, same workman:
"Hey guys, I had a wild weekend...stayed drunk both days, boy I'm hungover. Let's get this piece hung up on Mr. Brown's house, though...ugh...my head." :P
Good things come to those who wait. I think waiting is definitely gonna be worth it. I have no doubt that its gonna be beautiful.
Eric and his daughter do beautiful work! How lucky you can work with them. It's been a long haul. I've been along since the first. So glad you are making such progress. God bless you and Kim. Suzanne in Oregon
Thank you for showing this to give some perspective. That sunroom is really stunning, and I love hearing how it is done. I am excited to see what is coming for your project.
I love your excitement and passion for this beautiful mansion. Keep up the great work. ❤

Wow!! You all are so talented and devoted to p preservation!! I am very impressed! Absolutely beautiful work!
I'm always amazed at the view of the city you get from your house and neighborhood.
Beautiful building; great architectural decoration. Great workmanship.
