Good demonstration of a basetube launch in high wind. A dive through to the front wires would have gotten you out of that bad situation quickly. It can be impossible to regain control by trying to muscle the roll. Instead, lower the pitch. You have much more leverage on the front wires or keel. You can walk the glider to launch on the front wires. Thanks for your excellent videos.

YEEEESSSSS ! You had me cheering for you as you managed to wrestle the beast down. Well well done mate ! Wonderful cliffhanger in the video. Happy landings !!!

Thank You for having the personal strength to show yourself? In a difficult situation. I hear so many people say that the only reason they tried Paragliding was because it looks easier to ‘Ground Handle’ it. They used different terminology but that was the gist of their motivation.
I’m not going to knock (too hard) a persons choice to in choosing to paraglide rather than HG, but it cannot - surely not - be the flying experience. Apples to Apples, HG has PG BEAT LIKE A BASS DRUM”!

Most places I've flown, there have been plenty of PG's flying twice as high and multiple times further than me.The speed wingers I fly with here at home are having a pretty good time too. BUT - I ain't giving up my Wills Wings anytime soon. hahaha A PG pilot once asked me why I picked hang gliding, I answered, "I didn't, hang gliding picked me"

Very nice. Way to hang in there fighting that crosswind. You didn't show it but I'm going to pretend you launched and had fun after that maximum effort.

Yeah. I didn’t handle that situation very skillfully. Learned a lot that day and since regarding high wind ground handling.

One trick you can use to help yourself is take the downwing hand and grab the up wing nose wire. Glad you didn't get flipped.

Thanks for the input! Hopefully I won't need to do that again. I think the mistake that put me in that position was being too close to the rock pile when I tried to come out from behind it.

I would have rotated the hang glider around the basebar to the left....but then I have only been at it 40 years...😁

Agreed. So many things I could’ve done that day. I learned from it. Practiced high wind ground handling more after that. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve had a problem at that launch (with the exception of trying to land at that same launch one evening, yikes!!).

We fly year round at this site, but April, May, Sept, Oct have served up some super consistent, fun flying. Mostly fly the evenings in that West wind. Managed to launch mid summer, mid day, a couple of times and thermal in light wind, but mostly ridge soaring. Thanks for watching Andrew! I've seen a couple of your videos as well.

I started flying summer of 2018. Took lessons in Santa Barbara. Imagine my surprise to come home from lessons and discover that folks are flying RC gliders and speed wings 5 miles from my house. Also launch off of Cooks Peak here in the Kern Valley.
