    Funny trivia: the Clockwork Soldiers actually have unique dialogue if they encounter Jindosh's corpse in particular.
    "This is quite amusing to record. This playback should trigger in case the machine detects my own lifeless body."

    That clockwork mansion HAS to go down as one of the greatest levels in video games ever made. If not the greatest. This has really opened my eyes to just how much work went into it.

      After learning of the behind the walls area I had trouble not using it because it’s just such a cool addition to the level. I mean who would think that you can just skip most of the level by looking up at the start of it?!

      @@dailyraptor7700 Dishonored, like the Batman Arkham series, Assassin's Creed and interestingly Breath of the Wild is all about verticality. You gain a huge advantage by climbing up high, both in terms what you can see, not being seen, navigation and opening up options. Therefore that was the first thing I did on this level, I didn't find out about the 'usual' route till many playthroughs later when I purposefully broke out of my up top and behind the scenes 'route' and found out just how wonderful and varied this level is. A masterclass in level design.

      @@dailyraptor7700 "skip most of the level by looking up at the start of it" - You could skip most of the dust district by solving the logic grid puzzle on the door. I did. And then I did the level out of curiosity.

    The best part for me had to be when I picked up an apple outside Lady Boyle's mansion,I believe,and the guard said "My apple,who do you think you are?! ". Small, but hilariously great moment.

    I turn 74 today. In all my years of gaming, The Dishonored series remains in top spot as my vote for Best Game Series ever. This doc proved just how much work went into it, and I thank all involved.

      Yeah I've been playing since the days of Atari and while I've become a casual player over the years, the Dishonored games really clicked for me, great setting and GAMEPLAY.

      @@whatchachattin I just had that happen on a flesh and steel play. The clockwork was across from me on its patrol when I shot its head off and suddenly Jindosh goes batshit running around and screaming. Even headless those dumbass machines can move, and so Jindosh was dropped by his own creation. Meanwhile I'm still up on the cabinets thinking wtf...how...wtf...I'll take it?!?

      @@johnvarley4561 I went through both with minimal magic use. Well, in first you get blink automatically, but you can avoid upgrading it or anything else, and in second one I declined when Outsider proposed to give me magic hand back.

    I had to laugh at myself as when they discussed voice actors I was like "yes, use professional voice actors and screw getting big names", which is something I've long thought. Then when they said Carrie Fischer was in it I instantly thought "I'm killing the radio guy next time I play through!".

      The new voice actor does an exquisite job in my opinion.

    This documentary made me realize that developers not only make a game to make a game. They are essentially building a portfolio: can we make a level that's able to transform completely? Yes, cool. Can we make a hub that can be summoned to any point in the level? Yes, we can.
    It really makes you think about it as a long term progress for a studio rather than long term progress for a specific game....in short, another AMAZING doc guys!

    Anyone else really love this Dinga Bakaba fellow? From the interviews Noclip makes with him for their documentaries and his Deathloop trailers and chats over at Game Informer, he just seems like such a funny, energetic guy who obviously has a ton of knowledge on and love for Arkane and their systemic games. I love all the good folks at Arkane but they couldn't have chosen a better face for the company IMO.

    Prey and dishonored 2 are probably going to stay in my top ten games list until the end of time.
    The level design alone makes them amazing.

    One of my most beloved games. I was sad to hear that Dishonoured 2 did not made profits. Anyone who designs Jindosh or the Time Glass level is pure genius and should have been rewarded.

    I didn't know that almost none of the mechanism of clockwork tower were not cheated and somehow now I'm even more fascinated and amazed by the level 🤯

      I always finish the mission, take out all the enemies (usual non-lethal) and then I run around the mansion and mess around for like hours. And then I imagine that Emily enjoys pulling all the levers to see what happens and that she'll probably try to renovate Dunwall-Tower. Or use Jindosh's mansion as her summer palace

    One thing I really would like to hear more about it the architectural design of both cities. Like, they both make sense as actual cities and not just gameplay hubs. Little sluice gates, flood paths, all the sorts of Industrial Era stuff that makes Dunwall and Karnaca both feel like places that have already survived countless catastrophes before the plague and will continue for long after

    What an incredibly fascinating video. Arkane are absolute wizards when it comes to level design and art. Both aspects of Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Prey are absolutely top notch. I've been gaming for coming up on 40 years (fuck, I'm old) and Dishonored 2 has a few of the best levels I have ever played in my life. Really outstanding work.

    When he talked about breaking monotonous gameplay, easily my favourite aspect of the Dishonored series is the simplest puzzle solving feel when you've scaped the whole area looking for a different angle and you finally find a way to get your target.

      Makes me want to try Dishonored 2 again, but I generally quit after an hour because some stupid guard sees me through the tiniest gap and eveything goes to shit and the game turns into reload simulator...

      @@Texelion3Dprints The first level of D2 can be quite frustrating because you don't have any power. Just try to power through it, maybe reduce the difficulty a bit, and by Mission 2, you can just use Blink or Far Reach to go to higher places in order ro avoid guards.

      @@minhnguyenle9864 I remember the last time I played D2, I thought - why the hell not, and declined all of The Outsider's powers, played the entire thing without them. Sneaking around, not killing anyone and not having the powers as a safety net - brought back that Thief intensity and I loved it.

      @@changeling9821 bruh I have 400+ hrs in D1 and 2 and Doto I think I know what makes them great lol, I dont mean turning into AC, Just more open than the previous ones, that way the void house would serve a purpose, Imagine Dishonored and you’re on the run from the authorities in a famine struck Morley I think it would be cool. Just look at what they’re doing with deathloop. Thats the kind of open world I mean

    This is incredibly cool. I love behind the scenes stuff so much, and just getting to hear about all the mechanics involved in creating and executing these games in a satisfying manner blows my mind. The Clockwork Mansion will forever be one of my favourite set pieces in video games, this was an absolute treat to know how it worked.

    When I went to the party, I had the invitation from Sokolov's estate (the previous level), but I noticed that the woman at the door lost hers - so i went to pick it up, and then noticed that the game stacked both invitations.
    I thought it was really cool how it did that (even posted it on the subreddit). I was a tad sad that nobody wondered why I had 2 invitations, but it didn't matter since both got removed.

    really crazy they built and cut so much. I'd love to see them build dishonored 3 on the hardware budget of last gen but just pack it full of every idea they can muster.
    We don't need larger levels we need more intricacy!
