    I went through the same issues on sizing with Thursday Boots. Had 2 pair and gave them away. I now have 2 pairs of Beckett Simonon, they fit perfectly and are so much more comfortable. A bit of a wait for BS but so worth the wait. Thanks for your honest review.

    I've been fortunate to have pretty good luck with both companies. I have a pair of black Thursday Captains, a pair of suede Thursday chelseas, and a pair of brown Beckett Simonon jodhpur boots. I agree that the BS boots are a bit better constructed and have somewhat better leather, but for what they are I'm happy with all three pairs. One thing I think you missed is BS's .. unique ... ordering process. Thursday is a traditional e-tailer. Beckett Simenon, you'll be waiting six or eight weeks to get your boots because they make and ship them in batches. You're not going to get a pair of BS boots quickly, but they do communicate well through the process. My understanding is they make slightly more boots than are ordered at a time to handle returns and exchanges, but I've never gone through that process.
    I like other boots companies better than these two for some things, but these are nice for inexpensive boots that will last quite a while if you don't abuse them.

    Couple of things really rub me the wrong way about this review. Firstly, he refers to the BS boot as feeling sturdier and having better durability, however he is comparing a full-grain leather boot to Thursday's suede boot. A more realistic comparison would be Thursday's President in Black Coffee full-grain leather. Suede is more processed and will obviously look and feel different. He says he owns multiple pairs of Thursdays, but doesn't specify which. Why own multiple boots of a brand you don't prefer? Probably because, secondly, he encourages you to use his affiliate link for purchasing BS boots. In my opinion, this discredits any of his opinions regarding their competitor. Not saying BS doesn't make a fantastic or even better boot. I don't know because I don't own a pair. Just annoyed that this is not respectful of viewers’ time and is clearly one-sided. I've had two pairs of Thursdays for 7 years now and they are fantastic and timeless footwear. They're comfortable and incredibly well constructed, and $60 cheaper than the BS. I wear them almost every day and haven't had to resole them just yet.
    I haven't had sizing issues. If one size is too small but the next size up is too big, you probably need a wide version. Contact customer support and I'm sure they'd easily exchange them for you.

    I own the B-S Silva Chelsea boot. They're made with robust pull-up leather and are stylish, lightweight, comfortable, and waterproof. I love 'em. I also own many of their shoes and leather sneakers. I regard Thursday Boot Co. very highly, but I had a similar problem with fit and ended up selling my new Vanguard boots at a loss, creating a negative "lasting" impression.
    One of Thursday's advantages over B-S is lead time. Thursdays will be on your doorstep within a few days of the order, whereas B-S makes you wait a couple of months as their boots/shoes are MTO. B-S and Thursday both have exceptionally good customer relations.
    I'm curious how your new Dowlers will look after two years of use. Comparing them directly against the older Thursdays could be regarded by some as unfair.

      I do have to agree with what you’ve said and I greatly appreciate your comment! I’ve read a few other comments of people who have waited for long periods of time to get their BS boots. Fortunately, that hasn’t been the case for me or some others I know personally. I assume it was due to where we were living at the time (or they needed to get them out quickly for a review). But, something worth having is always worth waiting for… or so I’m told. I didn’t mention this in the video but I have not had good customer service with TBC. I always stage a few random inquiries to brands that I want to work with or wants to work with me to see how they handle them. It wasn’t the best… but not worth mentioning in the video.
      As far as fairness goes… I can’t expect everyone to agree with my opinion or my choices. I have several notes from the first month, two months, and three months on both TBC purchases and compared a lot of the quality based issues on that. I am very curious though how the BS boots will look after two years and I definitely plan to make an updated review. I guess I can only hope that whether the review is fair or not it helps someone to not feel as if they have wasted their money.
      Again, I really do appreciate your comment and hope to see more on future videos!

    I had the same problem with Thursday's boot, I wear 11 in sneakers and ordered 10.5 in the Captain but still a bit big so I wear thick socks. I do enjoy wearing them and like their quality. I ordered a pair of shoes from Beckett Simonon that I should receive this week after waiting for two months. And although I like Thursday and own a couple of shoes, sneakers and the boots, I have my eyes on the same boots that Beckett S. sent you. Depending on the quality of the shoes and fit, I will consider purchasing the boots. But it may be for next year, as I have already spent quite a bit this year on footwear.
    Thanks for the video.

    This is the first entirely positive review I have seen of Beckett Simonon. It's kind of strange, though, as the Beckett is more of a dress boot, and Thursday seems more everyday-ish for this comparison. I own both, and they serve different purposes.

    • @ModestlyMinimal
      @ModestlyMinimal  Před 9 měsíci

      I like what I like, what can I say. They are two different boots with two different purposes, sure. But the review focuses on things that should be consistent across each model. I do like my Thursday President boots… I just don’t think they’re worth $200 and I don’t think they’re as versatile as BS for a minimalist closet.

      @AbrahamsYTC Před 8 měsíci

      That’s what I feel. I have about 3-4 pairs of each but I usually go for Thursday 9 out of 10 times. Even though I like Becketts quality and workmanship better overall, they just seem a bit too dressy/shiny for casual use.

  • @Probably.boredinPDX
    @Probably.boredinPDX Před 6 měsíci

    I have the Beckett Simonon Dowler boots in pullup leather (along with several other assorted Becket Simonon shoes) and I love them. Comfortable, even if a little stiff on the first couple wears, stylish with a classic profile that isn't trying to be too chunky or too dressy, and the leather looks and feels amazing.
    The only issue I have are the laces - a little too thin for my taste and REALLY slippery when tying, but this is an easy fix. I do wish they'd ship a pair of thicker, more casual laces instead of just a second backup pair.

    I chose the Dowler boots over the Captains because I think they just have a nicer profile and picking a size was straight forward. I do wish they had a leather option similar to rugged and resilient, but maybe they will in the future. Sizing with all of BS boots and shoes I’ve purchased has been consistently true to Brannock size for me; however, the sneakers seem to run at least half size large in my opinion. Have you tried the sneakers? If so, what’s your experience been like with them?

    I own both brands, five Beckett Simonon and three Thursday Boots. You are on the mark with sizing. I’ve had many more compliments on the Beckett Simonon boots. They are more flexible in that they can be worn both for business casual and casual situations. There is a difference in that one is Blake Stitched and the other is Goodyear welted. Raise the price, lower production rates, and produce more a more accurate shoe. My channel is not for everyone. I’m not here to be budget friendly or tell people to buy a bunch of things. That can be found elsewhere. I would rather spend a little be more on a purchase and have a better quality product that lasts longer, is more versatile, and brings me more joy. Just a difference in opinion.

    • @kit2770
      @kit2770 Před 9 měsíci

      @ModestlyMinimal Fair enough. Although pricier and more high-quality boots already exist in other brands. It doesn't have to be Thursday. Plus, if Thursday became more exclusive, then they wouldn't be so "modestly minimal."

    • @ModestlyMinimal
      @ModestlyMinimal  Před 9 měsíci

      @kit2770 They do already exist, yes. And are more expensive for a good reason. I think more so in my statement in the video the point I was trying to get across, which I may have done poorly, is that Thursday needs to change something. Like most brands that appear like they have and gain a huge following there always seems to be a short lifespan with a huge financial downfall or, and not very often, they succeed and move into a more exclusive space. I think both boot brands are pretty fairly priced (however the BS boots are better quality for the price). I’d just like to see Thursday go in a direction that reduces the amount of displeased individuals in their comment sections.
      As for something exclusive not being modestly minimal… I own plenty of exclusive items. I think, in what I do, that can only make a piece more meaningful and I will be more willing to keep that piece as a legacy item. Do I think that everyone should live this way? Nope, it’s definitely not for everyone. But I do hope that my content helps someone make a choice between two items and they end up happy with their purchase. In complete transparency the only reason I made this video is because I’ve not been happy with any purchase from TBC and I know a lot of people who feel the same. I just wanted to offer an alternative at a similar price point.

      I actually agree with you about buying better and thus buying less often, which is why I'm in the process of ordering a pair of White's. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to start suggesting that inexpensive brands transform themselves into something more expensive. I own a pair of Captains. Like you with your pair, I think they're a good value, and I like them (my sizing experience seems to have gone better than yours, but maybe I just got lucky). Granted, they're not going to be a "legacy item," but I like that Thursday is an option in the market--a decent yet inexpensive boot, one where I don't need to sweat every nick or scratch like I might with a more expensive pair. Anyways, take care. Have a good one. ✌️
