And yeah, Tulkas is a no-nonsense beast, he was the biggest proponent against Melkor/Morgoth since the creation of the world. Just need to state that power scaling was insane in the first age. The strongest elves, humans, dwarves, dragons, balrogs existed back then. By the time of the third age, we basically are dealing with remnants of what once was.

      Vampires are mentioned in the Silmarillion, but Tolkein's vampires very different to how they're normally pictured ("werebats" might be a more accurate appellation) and they don't exactly get much of the spotlight. Sauron's vampire messenger gets some mention in the story of Beren and Luthien, but from memory it's pretty much "she causes them some problems, gets killed, and then Luthien takes her form as a disguise".

    Never did he give numbers on Melkor's hosts, and even those he gave changed over time. (The Balrogs started as extremely high quality formation with a few hundreds among their number to 7 at the end of his writings (making the fights of Gandalf, Glorfindel and Ecthelion much more impactfull)

    Like for if player typed infinite money, Morgoth would have that as well. And if the player typed faster production, Morgoth would have that as well

      While the three terms are simply the same in different languages (Goblins English, Orcs (Orc/Yrch) Elvish and Uruks (Uruk-hai) Orcish), I think there is a sort of 'hierarchy' to it; the different languages being used actually a mark of varying respect levels. The strongest subspecies or variety of Orc being referred to in their own tongue.

    What gets me is that after the Noldor arrive in Middle-Earth, they go to Angband... and just sit there for 400 years doing nothing. Yes, the Prophecy of Mandos stated that they were doomed to failure, but... why didn't they try? The Gates of Angband weren't unassailable - Gwindor and his company burst through them in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. Orcs are repeatedly portrayed as falling like dry chaff before the flame when the elves attack them, and we've seen that Maiar like the Balrogs and even Sauron can be defeated by them. And Morgoth himself isn't invulnerable - Fingolfin wounds him pretty badly seven times. If just one elf can do that, what would happen when tens of thousands of elves, joined by tens of thousands of dwarves, just zerg rush Angband? Especially right after the rising of the Sun, when the orcs were at their weakest, the Noldor are still strengthened with the light of the Two Trees having not faded in them yet, and Morgoth not having grown his forces or created things like the dragons yet. They would have annihilated the orcs with ease, taken down the Balrogs, and made their way to Morgoth himself. Could Morgoth all alone prevail personally over 100,000 elves and dwarves? I personally like to think that they would have defeated him and Sauron, dragged them back over the Helcaraxe to Valinor, thrown them bound into the Ring of Doom in front of the Valar, and just return to Middle Earth saying nothing. Manwe just looks at Mandos, who shrugs and says that sometimes free will trumps prophecy.

    • @Byenie0912
      @Byenie0912 Před 13 dny +2

      I believe the Noldor tried to enter Angband but it was too difficult to occupy.
      Imagine an ant colony. But it's as big as the Himalayan Mountain Range. Goodluck trying to map and secure each and every cavern inside and outside the mountain.
      Look at the Misty Mountains. No matter how many orcs and goblins they slay from Gundabad down to Moria, there were still enemies everywhere.
      Even the Valar gave up on invading Utumno
      That's why they just nuked Angband and sunk it under the sea. It's the only way to win.

    I know that this is an old discussion and I will remember it : how the black races reproduced themselves? There is no reference to female orcs, female trolls or female goblins? Morgoth only twisted and corrupted former races like elves or dwarves to turn them into monsters. But surely there was not enough "pure" individuals to be twisted in order to fill the numbers of armies that Morgoth needed. My only answer is that they reproduced assexually, parthenogenesis, or in simpler words, cloning.

      First and to a lesser extent Second Age Noldor did have a significant power up, and in the Edain were much more powerful before the long decline in the Third Age. Dragons shifted the balance of power and the good guys were steadily losing after they appeared, until the Valar themselves (and the even-more-powered-up-than-Noldor Vanyar) showed up.
      The end of the Second Age had the Elves and Numenoreans still retaining enough of their power to take down Sauron.
      The Third Age really had no hope of a military victory, just holding out long enough to take Sauron out some other way.
