What bothers me is even though this guy made my childhood as Spider man, There's no denying he's a VERY talented actor. He was absolutely amazing in Brothers. The PTSD manic episode he has is spot on. He was also great in Pawn Sacrifice. If tobey got better projects or REALLY wanted to, he could probably win an Oscar or at least get nominated

Well, your hopes in the latter comment might turn out in fruition next year, because he'll be an executive producer and co-star in Damien Chazelle's upcoming movie Babylon starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, and its December Christmas release and star-studded cast and director could indicate that Tobey might have a home run with that movie. And he'll also be a part of the main cast of Scott Z. Burns upcoming miniseries Extrapolations for AppleTV+. I'm telling you Magnus, we should keep an eye on next year, because we're about to see a renaissance of Tobey Maguire

Andrew Garfield version really lends into the fact that he's half spider beucase in the first movie the way he crawled on walls was like a spider(just look at the finals fight between him and the lizard when he threw him off the building) and in the scene where he webbed up the lizard he made spider noises and crawled on him like a spider. No doubt that Andrew's is the most spider like.
I never cried in theater so hard like I did when Tobey shows up in NWH, that was the best moment of my life, seeing my superhero since I was a child appears on the big screen for the first time of my life, and the fact that I grew up I knew that he barely starring movie lately, made me cried harder.

I saw him in Vegas 2003 on a wknd vaca at a craps table I was playing at 3 in the morning but didn’t recognize him right away until I looked at him for the 3rd time and he smiled that famous smile of his. He was nothing but quiet and calm the entire hour. Good looking man and better in person. I do hope he plays spider-man again. He really is one of my favorite underrated actors. Also loved him in Seabiscuit.

Such a gifted actor. As someone who served and has been diagnosed with PTSD and also has exploded on family members - his performance in Brothers brought me to tears. Towards the end, when he told his brother that he was drowning, man that scene really broke me and pushed me to seek help. I was really on the edge. Very close to doing myself, or (God forbid) someone else, serious harm. So I'll always be grateful to him even though I've never met the man. Thank you Mr. Maguire.

Wow, he's led an incident filled life. Hard to grasp that he's actually 46 now and has been around for quite a while. The time has flown by , mind you when you look at the iconic body of work someone like Clint Eastwood or Steve McQueen had already accomplished by the same age it does put things into perspective. I hope he has learned from his mistakes and gets a chance to resurrect his career (after all that's what happened with Robert Downey Jr). And it's weird to think that his mum is only 64 and his dad 66 yet he's already middle aged.

Yeah, I wondered about that part as well. The movie made around 890m. On top of that the Great Gatsby was a big hit as well making around 350m but that detail is left out as well.
Tobey did gamble but there is nothing to suggest he was a gambling addict.
Spiderman 3 grosses nearly $900 milllion, tobey maguire's career ends...according to this video. I haven't understood to this day, I just assumed it was his personal choices and not his acting skills or ability to rake in money, without him the avengers movies may never have even been made.

Tobey is literally the reason why I took up acting at 12. I was bullied quite a bit when I was young and seeing Peter Parker grow more confident inspired me on a personal level. I lost weight and began learning how to box. Now I have been on background roles for productions in Austin, TX, it's only up from here. I hope to meet Tobey one day and hopefully for him to be proud of my work.
Also Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland are great actors but Tobey Maguire will always be my definitive Spider-Man

Not the case for Andrew, he is still associated with his role in the Social Network as Eduardo (the iconic Macbook scene lol), and his role in Hacksaw Ridge is very remembered as well. Andrew somehow managed to break out of the Spiderman shell. We'll yet have to see for Tom Holland, but considering his off-and on-screen charisma, he'll probably break out of it too.
Not necessarily true, there are actors that can break out of their most well known roles. A perfect example of this recently is Robert Pattinson. Yes he's still known as Edward but now he's known for his recent movies like Lighthouse because he's so talented. Now he'll be known as Batman further distancing himself from Edward

Now i understand what is different between Tobey, Andrew and Tom. It's not the age. Tobey has been through a lot before spiderman. He has a long journey with a lot of experiences. He is a trully actor. He has a clearly cinematic vibe, what tom and andrew doesn't show much. The making of firts SP triology was surely hard and dangerous, that's why it was so real and i almost lose my breath in some scence and fights, Tobey did a really good job. Now with all that CGI and green screen, it all looks like some kind of joke, can't make me feel anything.

True, Spider-Man 3 definitely isn’t perfect but nowadays I see people actually starting to like the movie now but the movie definitely didn’t flop at all like it made way more than the budget
Wasn't a flop, but definitely poorly executed. Spider-Man 3 should of been Sandman and Peter then, Venom (the symbiot lands on earth), and the scene where Venom takes over Peter's suit is shown while Aunt May's words play "Sometimes it can take us over" at the end. Leaving the audience in suspense on a cliff hanger, so the next three films are dark. And the relationship between Peter and Eddie developes and goes sour, Harry starts to lose his sanity. By Spider-Man 6 you have Venom and Carnage, Cletus Cassidy kills Harry in the mental hospital, but Harry tells him who Spider-Man is. So yeah not a bad film, but what I listed off could of happened. A trilogy with the black suit, Spider-Man 5, you get the church scene as a cliff hanger. It makes more sense for Harry to go through a mental decline, not becoming his friend's enemy imo. Plus finding out his father almost killed him, so his mental health slowly deteriorates and etc. Plus Venom could of looked better.

Tobey Maguire is an incredible actor. The truth is that Tobey only plays in top movies. He chooses carefully every contract.
I think it's worth mentioning that Spider-Man 3 did not fail at the box office by any means. While it certainly did among critics, the 3rd movie was in fact the highest grossing of Raimi's trilogy and Sony/Columbia's highest ever until Skyfall in 2012.

I personally like TH more. They're all great actors, but I just felt Tom had the better character.
Tobey will always be my Spiderman and I had no idea he struggled with alcohol. I had four friends who struggled with the same issue. One of them committed suicide. I truly hope that Tobey get back on his feet again.
This man is a true legend no matter what. So much respect for Tobey. He is a real talented actor!

I didn't realize it as a kid, but I really liked tobey. But I've only ever known tobey as spiderman. Since I like him so much I want him to be in more movies and be happier. I also will make it a goal to watch some of his movies.

Great job mentioning some of the roles he doesn't get enough credit for. I thought Tobey's performance in "The Spoils of Babylon" was hysterically funny tho' I have to admit it took me a couple of episodes before I stopped wondering what kind of series I was committing time to.😉

22:47 "Spider man 3 failed at the box office" WRONG. It was a HUGE success at the box office 895MILLION . It made MORE then Spiderman 1 (825million) and Spiderman 2 (788million). IIt did get poor reviews though.

One of the few happy memories I have from my childhood is watching Spiderman with my Uncle and brother as a 6 year old. He will always be Spiderman for me.
Man if you think about it, great actors like Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and Tobey all went through some hard stuff, but I’m glad they’re doing ok today

I think Toby Maguire is the best Spider-Man, he nailed it and make the character his own. The fact that the subsequent Spidy movies were all back in high school and tried to fit in the Toby 'nerdy' school character says it all.
I loved every version of Spiderman, each actor made it their role... SPOILER ALERT: but it wasn't until "No Way home" that I realized I had a favorite... the moment Maguire showed up on screen I had goose bumps.. and he was my favorite version

As an alcoholic (recovered/recovering 9 years), I don't happen to think we need to point out how he "screwed up." As someone who also lost everything but my life, my heart goes out to him. I have nothing but good wishes for him and his family. This is an infernal illness (it's an illness, declared so by the AMA in 1953) which steals mind, body and spirit. We're lucky, though, because we can recover one day at a time.
